Xbox Live Gold Weekend Starting Thursday Isn't For Games

Xbox Live Gold weekends are known for letting gamers get a taste of the services that Microsoft and its partners have to offer. Usually, everyone guns for the online multiplayer. However, that won't be the case with this weekend's trials.

Microsoft will be utilizing this weekend to showcase the entertainment related services currently available on the Xbox. They won't require an actual subscription to the service that you want to try out. (With some exceptions) Here's the list of apps available for trial and/or abuse this weekend in the US:

  • CinemaNow
  • Crackle 
  • Dailymotion 
  • EPIX
  • ESPN 
  • HBO GO 
  • Hulu Plus
  • iHeartRadio 
  • Last.fm 
  • MSN 
  • Netflix
  • Syfy 
  • TMZ 
  • TODAY
  • UFC 
  • Verizon FiOS
  • VEVO
  • Vudu
  • Xfinity TV on Demand 
  • YouTube

There are some caveats however. Hulu Plus will provide you with a free 1 month trial while Netflix will only be available for those who have not used its 1 month trial. EPIX will be limited by your TV provider. Other than that, everything else is good to go.

The weekend will run from Thursday, April 19 to the following Monday, April 23. Too bad there's no Zune to trial.

Too bad I don't use any of those.  I have tried Verizon FIOS but it still has some issues with lagging and buffering.  Besides, I have my Verizon Box sitting right next to my Xbox anyway.

 

I don't even know what some of those services are.

That's a lot of options, I didn't expect to see so many, it seems that the gaming world does get better and better. I've never played on an Xbox before but I do like online games, I am a big fan of Jewel Quest Solitaire, it keeps me entertained. Still I'd like to try some new games too, the current offers are tempting.
