You might want to hang onto your used console before trading up for that smooth all white Kinect Xbox. If you think that the Factory Reset option was good enough in terms of wiping your data, you may want to think again.
According to a report done by Drexel University, you can use any kind of tool to browse the Xbox 360's hard drive on a computer and the stored credit card info just lying around. These days, all it takes for someone to profit from this kind of transaction is the name, card number and expiration date. After that, it's a field day on Amazon and on other sites that do not ask for the CCV code. (3 or 4 digit number on the back)
Although Microsoft is denying the claim by saying there's more to the report than that, it's still food for thought. They say that the credit card info was gained through other means. Even if, it's still troubling that the info is accessible in the first place.
To safeguard yourself, you want to hook up your Xbox's hard drive to a computer and securely format it.
