We all know how manufacturers and companies like to purchase domains relative to their upcoming products way ahead of time, on top of taking anything that already is owned. Apparently, Microsoft has just done this with two "Xbox 8" relative domains that were originally owned by someone over in China.
Microsoft has obtained control of xbox8.us and xbox8.org. With development of Microsoft's new console, this might be adding the possibility of an official name aside from the ones we've already heard about like Xbox 720 or Xbox Durango. At the same time, the magic number for new developments these days is "8". Like the time Windows 7 was released, we had Windows Phone 7, among other things. Now with Windows 8 bringing in the Metro interface, we've seen the Xbox dashboard, Windows Phone as well as the Xbox website adopt the new design.
Are there some other possibilities? Well, Microsoft could have taken control of it to avoid counterfeit and an unofficial product to surface and be sold to unsuspecting victims.
What do you think about all of this? Is this the name of a new console or is Microsoft just doing this to simply protect their asses... I mean assets?

Well, this would be the 3rd generation Xbox, so it doesn't make sense to call the Xbox 8, even if they were trying to unify their product line (although Windows Server "8" was renamed to Windows server 2012). I think it would be smarter to call it Xbox Metro.
