Microsoft Launches Black Tusk Studios to Make "The Next Halo"

Submitted by Christopher Groux; December 04, 2012

In case you haven't heard the news already, Microsoft Games recently reopened its Vancouver studio under the new moniker known as Black Tusk Studios. Staffed with tons of AAA industry veterans, the new outfit certainly has some high hopes for the future, and has been charged with the huge responsibility of creating the Xbox's next big exclusive. According to the team's manager Mike Crump, he believes they are quite up to the task: "[We] are working on Microsoft's next big entertainment franchise. We're not working on an existing franchise, we're looking to build the next Halo ... which is really exciting. We are building something from the ground up."

In general employees at Black Tusk have quite the seasoned vets to make that task happen. Made of largely ex-EA members, many of the coders have had at least twelve years of experience coding in the industry. While many other third-parties have been looking to shut down their Canadian counterparts, could it be Microsoft's own that brings us the next massive craze in gaming?

as if 343 industries did a bad job on halo 4 so they formed a new studio a second time? if this goes on, every next halo title will have its own individual studio developing it.

Sorry Blades, From what i read, it states they are looking to make the next "HALO" as in a new franchise of the same caliber that will keep fans wanting more. They are not working on a new Halo title.

You are correct on that. The headline was meant to attract attention. A lot of sites have been reporting it like that. Still you've got to wonder if they can actually pull it off. I just don't want another shooter!

I really hope they can, but you are right too, no more shooters. Create something different, thats what'll get people talking more and spending the cash. Although you cant help thinking, with the next GEN supposedly out next year. Do they play it safe
