It looks like the Dragon Age franchise is yet another one that will be looking to breathe new life into it by adding a multiplayer component. Despite having a hugely successful single player experience (though reviews were mixed regarding Dragon Age 2) on their hands, developer Bioware is apparently looking to add a competitive multiplayer arena mode that pits you against other players and AI alike to Dragon Age 3, according to Kotaku.
Dragon Age 3 will use DICE's Frostbite 2 engine and joins a growing trend of adding multiplayer to every game imaginable, though to be fair arena modes have featured in other Bioware games such as Jade Empire, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Dragon Age: Origins. It's also well known that Mass Effect 3 will have a wave-based "Horde/COD Zombie" type of multiplayer mode.
One cool thing of note is that the Dragon Age 3 multiplayer experience will allow you to play as a dragon. So there's that.
What do you think? Is this completely unnecessary? Is it an obvious cash-in or act of desperation? Are you looking forward to a new experience or will this kill your interest in the Dragon Age franchise?
