Wii U Sales Suffer. Is Nintendo Worried?

Submitted by UnashamedVandal; January 11, 2013

The Wii U launched in North America on November 18th and sold a respectable 400,000 units on its launch week but now, things have slowed down for Nintendo's latest console. Analyst group EEDAR predicted that the demand for the new console would rise in December and during the Christmas month, Nintendo would sell an additional 600,000 units. This did not happen. The Wii U's most recent sales figures have shown that they fell short of their December predict by 150,000 units, putting the Wii U's sales record 25,000 below that of its predecessor in the same time period.

Despite this, Nintendo's marketing executive denies that the console has underperformed in the market because its revenue is higher than the original Wii due to its price. This is a surprising statistic considering the Wii U, unlike the original Wii, is sold at a loss.

Finally, Wii U's most popular game is Super Mario Bros U, selling a total of 580,000 units. Even so, Microsoft's Xbox 360 more than doubled the sales of the Wii U in December, shifting 1.4 million consoles. Let me know your thoughts.

Still mixed about getting it or not, we have both units still in the store just sitting there, maybe a price drop or an exploit might make it more appealing. With the vita possibly getting the psp xmb, its become more appealing, but I still havn't shelled out the money for one.

It better not die as I just got one 4 days ago.
I'm not impressed at all with it. If I could return it and get my money back I would.

So you're not impressed with the console? I have used it and it didn't make me want to buy it to be honest.

I have had my WII-U for alittle over a month now and I am enjoying it. I just bought Arkham City (i have it for the 360 as well) and it looks and plays great! Rocksteady did a great job implementing WiiU's controller ie feels thought out not tacked on. In time game developers will learn how to use the hardware and make a fine game like this one.

Some mixed opinions than, its good to have some contrast. What else do you like about the console? Does its entertainment value compare to the original Wii?

I honestly didn't care much for the Wii though I bought one I haven't truly enjoyed a nintendo home console since N64. To me the WiiU's gamepad is amazing I can use it like my lodgtech harmony controller and I am loving nintendo Tvii I rarely use fios's program guide anymore. Just the fact that I can black ops 2 on my controller while my girl can watch her stupid shows is a HUGE plus! Also the web browser is by far the best one on home consoles in fact I used it for this post =-)

Simple...GAMES! I think is a pretty good system, but it simply doesn't have enough games. For the interest in gamers to grow for this system, Nintendo needs to start making some games. Preferable online games. An online Mario party would have me sold quick! an F-zero, zelda, metroid, mario kart...yeah...they got work to do!
