The way the Nintendo Network ID works is that it can only be associated with one Wii U which in my opinion is a design flaw. However, it appears that there could be a silver lining to it. If you are one of the people who have bought or are thinking of buying one used than you could get yourself some extra content at no extra cost. How does this work and why does it only work for used consoles? Let me explain.
Because the Nintendo Network ID is paired to a single Wii U and any content the previous owner purchased is still available to the new owner. This is because the content was already paid for under the original user ID. But things aren’t as cut and dry as that. You see, even if you create a new ID on your secondhand console you still have access to the previous owners content even after their ID is deleted. Why does that work? Because the ID is associated to the hardware itself and Nintendo still recognizes the hardware ID and associates it with the content… hence design flaw.
