Randy Pitchford Calls the Wii U Gamepad the Best Hardcore Controller

Recent video game adaptations for touch screens have more or less been remarkably simple affairs. Games like Angry Birds and Bad Piggies have made and sold millions, but let's face it: it's because their darn simple to play. There are no fancy joysticks to handle, no complex button mechanics, just a slide of the finger to control the entire gaming experience. Nintendo in particular has seen the potential in this kind of design and chooses to bring it to the console masses with the Wii U: a console with a touch screen that is a fully operational addition to your TV set monitor.

 

 

 

As a development team, most of you will recognize Gearbox from the wildly popular Borderlands shooter series. Yet while that particular hardcore game may not be out for the Wii at the moment president Randy Pitchford believes that the Wii U gamepad "is the best controller Nintendo's ever made for making [a first-person shooter.]" He thinks hardcore gamers are going to love what they see from this dual screen idea. In general he also admires Nintendo's commitment and evolution of using two displays starting with the DS and slowly giving consumers a taste years before the major console release. Sighting companies like Windows for their ever-changing ideals, he hopes that the big N will have success with this innovation. Currently Gearbox only has Aliens: Colonial Marines in the pipeline for the Wii U, but we'll have to see if Pitchford can put his money where his mouth is!
