Michael Pachter Says the Wii U Will Fail

In the past, Pachter, hasn't exactly been the single biggest fan of what Nintendo has to offer. When the original Wii launched, Michael quickly admitted that the new method of controlling would soon make Nintendo a completely irrelevant company. Fortunately for fans of the console legend he was absolutely and completely wrong. By most accounts in fact, the Wii has sold more units than the Xbox 360 or the PS3, making it the technical winner of the current generation in some senses. The game attachment rate of the console is another story entirely, but the final word is that as of right now Nintendo is far from irrelevant.

 

That incorrect prediction however still hasn't stopped Pachter from saying similar things about the Wii U. According to the man himself, “I think you’re going to see now with the Wii U, notwithstanding its early launch support, nobody’s going to support it. I don’t think we’re going to see every game on the Wii U next year.” As if that wasn't enough, he also says that while the company's first party offerings remain strong, a weak network interface will really harm any third party games from becoming universally popular. Sighting the Call of Duty franchise specifically, he says that nobody in their right mind seriously buys a Wii U with the expectation of really playing such hardcore online games. The real question is, is Pachter correct in his thinking, or will the innovative gamepad make this analyst eat his words?

The Wii U i agree will fail totally.This console doesn't deseve to be called a Next Gen.I don't see games like Watchdogs, Call of duty , Crysis 3
, launching on this console. The graphics is totally piece of crap and the hardware is not Next Gen either.

have you even seen wii u graphics? they are on par with ps3 and xbox 360 soooooooo, yea not to mention isn't the system geting some good shooters? have yo researched the wii u at all?

If Pachter says it will fail then it is a safe bet that it will be a success.
@Mort CoD was a launch title for WiiU.
Ubisoft SVP said Watch Dogs is a possibility for WiiU.
Crysis 3 not going to happen tho.
Bayonetta 2 is WiiU only; (odd move).

I wish I had spent more time with a Wii U to really chime in, but unfortunately I've never used one. To play devil's advocate though, yes the Wii U is graphically on par with games on current consoles right now, but that will very quickly be undone with the release of the PS4 and 720 at the end of next year (assumingly.) The Wii U might then appear as a bit more inferior hardware-wise just like the original Wii. That's not to say there won't be games, they probably just won't look quite as shiny in comparison.

I think things will pretty much be the same, the good thing is that the wii u, now have HD graphics, wich will allow better netflix and other services, softhouses will still release games for wii u when they release for PS4 and Xbox 720, but will be a spin of those games, like they aways did on Wii, instead that it will be in HD now, so, for the average user (the same one that bought the Wii) it's enought. They don't come to websites like this one to know which is the high end experience ever, it's just that their children want to play mario, and they know for sure that nintendo is safer for younger minds, with more games for kids. And that's Valid, when i have kids, i will totally use that as an excuse for my wife let me buy a Wii U. (together with a PS4 and 720). What's safer for a younger mind, Mario or Crysis 3? Jump, smile and nose voices or Shoot, run, hide and stab?
