Remember the Playstation SDK suite that was released by Sony a while back? It's available for everyone to create applications that can be run on several Sony devices such as the Vita. Apparently, you can also make a NES emulator with it.

Since the release of the PlayStaion Vita there hasn't been much in the way of homebrew aside from HBL that allows you to run PSP homebrew on the Vita, but nothing monumental yet like a custom firmware has shown up yet.
