Game Categories Light for 6.3X Released

Submitted by greg; June 17, 2011

Are you running PSP Custom Firmware 6.38 or 6.39 ME, maybe PRO? What about 6.39 TN-A? Your homebrew collection ... is it a mess? Want to clean that up, categorizing it all? If you've answered yes to all the above then you best be installing neur0n's modified version of Bubbletune's Game Categories.
Game Categories Light for PSP
And this is Game Categories Light version 'b' -- which fixes the version string. How do you use it? Install it like any other plugin, activating "category_light.prx" under vsh.txt. Then simply create subdirectories under PSP/GAME, like PSP/GAME/EMULATORS, or PSP/GAME/APPS, etc. Copy your homebrew to the appropriate spot, reboot, and there you have it! I notice you can't have the same categories in /ISO as in /PSP/GAME if you do it creates two instances of everything in both directories in the game list.  bug?

Yes, I also noticed that. Its pretty annoying. especially since i have some DLC games and ISOs i want to put in the same folder.

not the case in pro firmwares...it uses a single category for both the folders but each game is repeated twice...say if i have 5 games it shows 10.I'll check if it's fixed in dis version though or maybe dats just a pro firmware bug

I started not to bother with this, since Bubbletune's 1.3 works, but this is a real improvement for 6.39ME-5. Much smoother & doesn't lag near as much. Great plug-in. It's not compatible with 6.20Pro, but I guess Bubbletune has that covered anyway, lol.

Its kind of buggy. It says my CFW and PS1 Games/Files are Currupted. It also doesnt Load the PSP iso video before you start the game.

I have 16GB on my Slim so I need this plugin and since I updated my CFW to 6.39ME I had to update this.  I miss the old version where you could have multiple memory stick mode, this new plugin reads everything in every category at once and takes awhile on mine as I have over 100 titles.  I hope the multiple memory stick mode gets implemented in a future release.

Games that are downloaded from PSN, such as FF7 or LittleBigPlanet , go in the GAME folder. ISOs/CSOs go in the ISO folder.

Differences:
1. 6.39 is the latest FW, and can be changed to 6.39 PRO or ME.
2. 6.20 supports a perma-patch and 6.39 doesn't (you can spare a few seconds to reinstall the CFW on 6.39; it's not much of a hassle).
3. On 6.39 (the most recent FW), you don't run the risk of having a corrupted gamesave on the latest and newest games when you update to a higher FW.

I have PSP 2000 with 5.50 Prome-4.
Which custom firmware should I update that can run ISO games and all the stuff my version can run and beyond that? Also, i have a pandora battery, so I don't want to take unnecessery risks, because I still new with that...

You can update to 6.39 OFW, then choose the type of CFW that you want (PRO, ME, or TN). Since all of those CFW's do not permanently write to flash0, there is virtually no risk of bricking your PSP.

There is another Game Categories plugin compatible with 6.20 and 6.3x CFW that features multiple memory stick mode. Its called Game Categories Lite 1.2 (Multiple MS for 6.xx) and can be found here: http://endlessparadigm.com/for... (there are two downloads, 1 for ME and 1 for other users). Its what i am using now as the game previews and icons now show up in the game menu as well as loads quicker. With GCL and GCR12 the game previews and icons didnt show up and it took awhile for the menu to load up.

If you use this application make sure that the Pro-Recovery file was not in a folder, like a said don't make a folder for Pro-Recovery.
