Who's Running What Now?

Submitted by greg; March 05, 2011

With the recent flurry of custom firmwares (and homebrew enablers) I'm curious to know who's running what... There are 3 major players in the game: neur0n, Liquidzigong and Total_Noob. So I ask: What are you running and how's that working for you? [poll id="10"] Download: 6.20 TN-D (HEN) CFW 6.35 PRO-B CFW 6.35 Custom v16 CFW 6.37 ME v5

I'm still on 5.50 GEN-D3... essentially I'm waiting for a 6.XX CFW that has all the features of GEN-D3. I don't see a need to upgrade yet, as ISO loading still isn't integrated (as far as I know...?) and PS1 support is just starting to be added.

Just updated my PSP 2000 (TA88v2) from 5.50 Prometheus-4 to neur0n's 6.37 MEv5. It's working just fine, just a few plugins didn't work (in my case only CXMB). Games, Homebrews and POPs are all working perfectly, it feels like its a bit faster than 5.50, but that might be just my imagination. It also does not need patching on newer games, but I think all current CFWs have that.

I'm on 6.20 TN! My only issue is the lack of plugin support, and how my cxmb doesn't work with my OpenIdea ISO loader, but that's it :D

B2, I waited for TN-D to release, tried and fried it. B2 has what I was looking for auto loads ISO's and such. Plug in support could be better however. Its a lot smoother running than TN-D should be right now. TotalNoob, should have been watching what was being released and what people were looking for. You find it all in B2, for the 3000. I am running v.15 on my 2000 (hackable and it seems to be responding just like B2. So. unless TN-D gets it act together I am staying.

It's so obvious, who has been updating his cfw more? He wins by a LOT. You know who i am talking about. Loyalty means shit. If you don't add functionality and update continously to fix things you're just left behind for something better. The funny thing is, i don't really give a shit about plugins, i'm way more interested in compatibility and speed.

PRO-B2 here. I held out for tn-d for a long time.. but once pro got PSX support... rather than just a video teaser... that pretty much cinched it.

I'd be willing to downgrade for TN-d... there's just no compelling reason. It has nothing that I care about that is not in PRO. PRO on the other hand does have things that I wanted that are not in TN-d.

Great job all around, Total_Noob gets mad props for the original exploit... but I'm just too impatient to wait around for updates, and teaser videos just make that worse.

It does everything I need it to do, homebrew, plugins and ISO's.
I like it better than GEN; the GEN had an issue where sometimes the homebrew app didn't open , but instead the XMB icon of the homebrew just openend full screen (= reboot device). ME appears to be faster too.

ThanX.

I also agree that the downloads for Gen D3, m33-6, and Prometheus V4 should be added to this page

I happen to have a newer psp model so therefore I'm rather limited to what cfw I can use. When I got my psp I stupidly upgraded to 6.35. Thankfully the downgrader was released and as of now I'm running TN-D and playing FF 7. The whole reason I wanted a psp was for ps one support. Now I have everything I need. So I'm pretty satisfied.

6.35 PRO is the best. It has better compatibility with newer games which means no patching is necessary (i.e. Ys 1&2). Also can play online games and access psn without 3rd party homebrew.
I love how it's not permanent too. If I want to sell the psp, I just take out the memory stick. It only takes seconds to reactivate the hack after completely turning off the psp. Not a big deal. PSX support is cool, but don't care much about that.
Another plus: it works on GO.

I must give my admiration to all the new hackers out there working on 6.XX CFWs. Kudos. However, in terms of reliability, and overall awesomeness, old school is best school. I'm using 5.00 M33-4, and it works amazingly well, very fast and stable, plus custom themes. The best thing is, too, if you're old school enough to have successfully installed M33/GEN CFWs, then you're probably technically inclined enough to use plugins that enable newer games, which is, in all honesty, pure awesome sauce. Being able to combine the stability of the old school with the functionality of the new is great.

However, we need to ask ourselves what the real reason for hacking is/was. For me, it's because i wanted to play old(er) school games on my PSP, to make my PSP an all-in-one station of play. Hence, being able to play newer PSP games meant little, if not nothing to me. the only PSP games i really wanted to play were Mega Man: Powered up(THEY RUINED MEGA MAN D:) And Maverick Hunter X. With CFW, all i had to do was use the ISOs and im good. Now, i own very few UMDs, yet i like having that option if i so chose to play UMDs. Given that M33 5.00 is stable, i have no qualms about having it replace my entire firmware, and with plugins, i have no fear about what my PSP can't do.

Now, i also own very few UMDs, but i like to have that option just in case. Those of you who are more "digital" probably decided to go with a Go. That's great for you, and one of the newer firmwares will probably let you do everything you could ever want, but as far as i know, they don't feature ISO loaders, they don't fully support PSX games, and things are still very buggy. However, this isn't to say our own old school CFWs weren't. Our old school CFWs have had time to age, mature, and iron out the bugs to the point where installing M33/GEN is 99% guaranteed to work right out of the gate. In time, these new CFWs may very well become as stable as our current old school ones, but as of yet, old school still reigns supreme.

i have to tell you that u have a bad idea for the new cfw. lets see 6.35 PRO B. supports all emulators: nes, snes, sega mastersystem, game boy classic, color, gb advance, sega genesis, scummvm, nintendo 64. also support ps1 from psn store and even psx converted games, plugins, recovery menu etc....

5.50 gen d3 all the way - most complete, pretty much all games work, PSN :) (not that you actually need it on a psp - if you do whats the point in having cfw :D ) i also love that when i switch it off (or it dies :s) i dont have to re-custonfirmwarea bliise it (i make that word cause im sick) like the new pro cfw or summat. i dont need to update anyway i mean it works and all it really does is change the numbers 5.50 - 6.37. so im grateful for all the work you guys a doing (TN, LZ, N0) but make a pure f**kIn mint ass firmware ( TRY TEAMING UP AND USE ALL YOUR SKILLS EFFECTIVLY) also pick cooler names like gen team did (genysus) and call it like (for example) 6.37 ultimate or black edition or make a homebrew or something where we can change it with ease

Hi, I have 3k running on 5.03 kxploit Gen-C and Prome-3. haven't update yet coz i am afraid that i am not able to enjoy evrything i have now. It seems that 6.35 PRO is pretty cool, and i've read that i can downgrade back to 5.03 if i am not satisfied, but then again the risk for brick is there.

Here's what i have and what i liked the most,
Homebrew:
Bookr v9 (like reading)
Audio Mechanica (voice recording)
Go!Pod (like music playlist)
PMPlayer Advance (plays other video format)
Xplora 1.8 and Adhoc Transfer (my filemanager)

and Plug-ins: cxmb.prx, audioboost.prx, dayviewer.prx, game_categories .prx, MyCustomHidder.prx, rco_patcher.prx, version_spoofer .prx, wpchanger.prx, and tempar.prx

can anybody tell me what works or compatible and what is not?

any of this wont work using 6.35?? or any later versions? i guess i just have to stick with the one that works best for me. :D Peace out!, kudos to all the dev's, u rock! and make people happy.. :D

i think you are wrong.... one, cause all people that have 6.35 or 6.31 can downgrade to 6.20 very easely in any model of psp and without pandora or something like that. 2.- i dont say total noob work isnt' good, but PRO actually has more updates and a lot of work behind that. So lets say the 2 of them are really cool and hope that they keep it up the good work!

Even if 2 did they would still trump the 3rd out because they got more of a staff to work on diffrent aspects and then boom it a party..... Hell go into business

Here's the way I look at it. If you have a PSP1000 or fully hackable psp2000 use 5.00/5.03/5.50 CFW. If you have psp2000(unhacka ble)/3000/GO etc, play with both 6.20tn/6.35pro and see which one works better for you. I don't mean play, and find everything that is wrong with it. You will always find problems. In other words stop trying to bend the psp to your will. Bend your will to the psp. You can't have everything. If something doesn't work for you ask questions, search forums, try something else, or LEARN how to fix it. Don't just ask the devs to do it for you. They have done enough. Be happy for what you have, not angry about what you dont have. And thank the devs for making this stuff. You have all the time in the world to thank them while your sitting there waiting for their next release. They are the ones doing the work, and they ask nothing from you. They are giving you their product for FREE. If you want your psp to do things it can't do save up some money (donate to the devs) and hunt down a different model. If you can't do that fine, be happy with what you do have.

And a question to the devs. Where is a good start to learn this stuff? I am starting to learn Java/C/C+, and would eventually like to learn some of what you are doing.

popularity is no proof of superiority, if it aint broke don't fix it. I'm sure the majority of computers run windows 7 or Vista these days, but XP still rules for speed, compatibility, and now no viruses as its so old.

But congrats to all the developers for keeping the scene alive, ignore the whiners, they'll realise soon enough and put down their water pistols

oh yeah GEND3 all the way, stable as hell, everything works and as soon as it starts to become obsolete, I'll change, until then I don't need anything else for my PSP2000

I'm still running 3.90 m33-3. I think I'm going to update to 5.0 m33-6. Don't know how you new folks get by with just relying on cfw updates for stability. Plugins ftw! I'm running a psp fat that i downgraded a while back using the liberty city stories exploit. Old school psp hacking is pro.

yeah but that only happens becouse the psp´s being sold at a long time, no longer supports the old school, becouse if that was the case, the scenario would be very diferent, so the veredict is, old school rules, the others only wish to have a old school capable psp. and that´s it.

So i finally got my PSP back after 3 month of it's disappearance (I was very depressed for quite a long while when I found out it's gone) when my mom cleaned her room and found it (No idea why it was there. Seriously).

I installed custom firmware up to 3.61, but now im confused because the last time I checked hacks and CFW news like these were AGES ago... What's the next step guys?

If you're like me, not having done this stuff since forever, you'll want to spend a day catching up on everything so far. You'll want to update your CFW to atleast 5.00 M33-6 first then install CFW 5.50 Gen D3 with prometheus. Follow the link below carefully and it should be fine:

Running 5.50 Gen D3. I found its the most stable of all CFW. Its nice carrying around 8psp games on you memory or more even PSX game you have purchased instead of carrying allllllllll those UMD discs. I CFW mine as soon as my Wayne Gretzky NHL UMD metal disc fell off the UMD. I support the Video game industry by purchasing legal copies of the games. Should I upgrade CFW or remain on Gen D3? Right now I dont mine playing Patched games. Are upgrades worth it? Do they work flawlessly like Gen D3?

Haha "Weren't smart enough to not upgrade". If something is not broke dont fix it. Hen works great. Also sometimes you runt the chance of bricking your PSP even if follow the instructions. Look at how many people have upgraded and run into issues. I think its the Smart ones that realize when something is good and working then there is no need for upgrade.

I think the insult could have been "More Better" eh eh any takers.....JK PSP rocks and since I have discovered how many awesome RPG games it has to offer along with more PSX rpgs its the best handheld out there. Crisis Core, Brave Story, Y's, Silver Star Harmony, Crimson Gem, Valkyrie Pro and Monster Hunter etc. You also have great games like GoW, Resistance, Killzone. Props to all the coders that make CFW take a bow and thank you for the possibilities.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? Should I upgrade to a different CFW?
