Released: 6.20 TN-B (HEN)

Update: 6.20 TN-B has been released! It's coming... real soon. Probably in a few hours time... Total_Noob's 6.20 TN-B! And the change log says:

Fixed homebrew execution crash on some PSPs (thanks to HacKmaN for debugging)
Added PSP-3000 4g model support
Resolved some important NIDs
Added FAKE INDEX.DAT to TN VSH Menu.
- Dump whatever firmware with psardumper.
- Copy /F0/vsh/etc/version.txt to ms0:/seplugins/version.txt.
- Enable the option and restart VSH, now your PSP version is faked.
- -> To downgrade just use a lower firmware EBOOT.

I'm not quite sure how that FAKED firmware thing works. 'Cause from what I'm seeing, I have to download PSARdumper which gets put into my PSP. The dumper then dumps my firmware into another file then I copy the version.txt to my seplugins to do what? I dump a 6.20 firmware to fake a 6.20 firmware?

Or am I supposed to put in the update files in it so it dumps that.

I think you guys're taking the "downgrade" part a bit too serious. The only thing that changes when you use a version.txt is the firmware the PSP THINKS it's on, not the actual firmware itself.

thats what ive been waiting for. the version.txt (version spoof) works along with psnlover so you can play games on psn. Not sure if itll work right on the psp go but it worked on 5.50 gen-d3 for me.

wrong, BECAUSE it changes what the psp thinks its running, you can run a firmware update higher than the version you are faking. e.g a 4.xx version.txt spoof will let you run a 5.03 update, downgrading your psp

So then essentially, you use the version.txt hack to make the psp think it's on a lower firmware than the one you want to "downgrade" to.

For instance, say you want to downgrade from 6.2 to 5.03, well then you use a version.txt from a 4.03 update file with psardumper to make the 6.20 think it's on 4.03. Then from there, merely run the update file to "update" to 5.03. BRILLIANT!

Probably not since the newer firmwares are not just a newer version number but are actually different frameworks and system infrastructures needed to be present for the game to run. Or...just patch it. :)

I think there will be alot of bricks for and PSP Go because PSP Go only supports firmware until 5.70 and even if you try to put a lower eboot.pbp firmware (5.03) it will still brick because it doesn't support PSP Go, for PSP 3000 users if they are OFW 6.20 they can downgrade from 6.20 to 5.00 if they want to. So if Total_Noob can make a OFW 5.03 compatible for PSP Go then we can all downgrade to 5.03 and install 5.03GEN CFW, But for now PSP Go users, when 6.20TN-B releases I would reccomend to stay on 6.20TN-A because if you want to downgrade with 6.20TN-B, the lowest firmware you'll get to is 5.70 UNLESS Total_Noob makes 5.xx compatible with HIS HEn and with PSP GO.

For all you super newbs which alot of you are, you can't downgrade ur psp lower than the firmware that it came with. Otherwise you will get a brick. Unless you have psp 1000 don't attempt to go lower than what it was out the box or you will be very disappointed. Especially psp 3xxx models. If ur psp came at 5.50,then guess what?? Lowest you can go is 5.50. Don't say I didn't warn you kiddos. I've been a daily follower in the scene for more than 4 years now. So Please take my advice.

This is very exciting news. Exciting to the point I would go out and buy a psp go to downgrade it. So essentially, if a rewritten 5.03 could be made to support the go then we could all have the goodness of 5.03. Plus, if this could be ported to 6.35 with that game demo hack, then we could eventually be updating/downgrading for all of our needs. I see a bright future in this.

What you are saying may save some people from a brick but it is not totally true. The first generation of psp 2Ks were compatible with a pandora battery, so you could definitely install a lower firmware, unless I'm wrong.

its not an actual downgrade of firmware, its a version.txt! You wont be able to brick a console because your just changing the version.txt! its spoofing the firmware to any version that you want. It wont allow you to run newer games that need higher than 6.20. One of the things you can do is run games on psn along with psnlover.

OK, I just updated to 6.20TN-B and used the downgrade to fake it to version 5.03. I tried to run chickHEN R2 but the exploit did not work. I also ran MHUSPEED v3 but could not get the .tiff exploit to work either.

Some of the ISOs that weren't working on 6.20TN-A are now working on 6.20TN-B. Syphon Filter: DM and Tales of Eternia both work now.

Wrong...you cannot simply downgrade from changing your version.txt..sony adds another check in their firmwires to ensure that it's not just the Version.txt that's changed. if it was possible, we would have been able to downgrade from hbl by use pspfiler and change the version.txt in flash0

Just tested the spoof with the version.txt of 5.00 on my PSP Go by downgrading/upgrading to OFW 5.70 - When I bought my Go, it was OFW 6.20. So the version spoof works fine! On the PSP Go don't try any lower OFW or CFW Update than 5.70! = Brick!!!(I just updated it back to 6.20 right now to use HEN). Perfect work T_N! Can't wait for sum CFW 5.70+ or 6.xx ^^

Alright I only want to back up my games in case something happens to them. Like last year my GTA Liberty city stories was lost I want to back that up so even if it is lost I can still play it.

So I dont want to go through all this downgrade trouble so well TN-B be able to back up my games, still have some custom themes on there, and some extra features? Or do I need to downgrade to 5.03 chickHEN to do all this?

Actually, all 1000-3000 can be downgraded with this method by changing version.txt to a lower firmware number than the one you want to downgrade to, making the PSP think it's upgrading from, say, 4.00 (version.txt) to 5.03, rather than the reality of it downgrading from 6.20 to 5.03. I won't try it, but this is what I'm getting out of the description.

No, actually we cannot downgrade the Go to 5.50 GEN-D3 - the minimum supported FW is 5.70 for the PSP Go.

No one should try that, it will brick it. Psp go's have their own branch of OFW, and the main branch (1000-3000 and all firmwares under 5.70) will not intall on the GO. If you make it install using the hen, it will brick the GO.

I downgraded (yes FULL OFW downgrade) by getting the version.txt from 5.00 with psardumper then putting it in the /seplugins/ folder. Then I enabled the new option in TN-B and restarted the VSH. I then started the 5.03 update and it worked. =D

I just upgraded to 6.20 and enabled the HEN, then downgraded to check if it worked, and it does. I just got a settings information error (flash1:) and pressed O to fix it, and I got OFW 5.00, know I can re-hack my psp, I have a PSP PHAT.

Anyone have a solution? I'm running TN-B (duh) on a *I believe* First Gen PSP 3000. I can't get any damn homebrews to load, at the gameboot it freezes, after a few seconds it pops and shuts off. I keep trying to redo the hen, and I'm getting really pissed off having to sit through loading patapon 2. If I can really downgrade to 5.03 or 5.5, does it work? if so, do I just fake version, run the ofw installer for the 5.03 or 5.5 then go from there? look ill go trough this step by step
1 make sure u have 6.20 tn-a idk about b
2 download the 5.50 gen d3 along with the 5.50.pbp or update
3 make sure you have the gend3 extracted and placed in psp/game, and the 5.50.pbp placed in the same gend3 folder
4 be4 u do anything make sure you disable the flash 0 protection in the vsh menu otherwise it'll brick
5 run gend3 and it should load just press install 5.50 gend3 and it should work,and thats it, ful homebrew and iso support on ur psp

hello if your psp has a mobo below v3 (which i am pretty sure yours does) then you can hack it via pandora battery and magic memory stick. if i was you i would use psp tool (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/... to make your battery a service mode (pandora) battery. Then put an official 5.00 eboot (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/... on your ms (i dont know where either at root or in the same folder as the psp tool. you might have to rename it from eboot.pbp to 500.pbp) then us psp tool to make a magic ms. then install and update from 5.00 m33-4 to 5.00 m33-6

Ok, I just successfully downgraded my psp 3000 (v 3g North America) from firmware 6.20 to 5.03. To be extremely careful, i formatted my memory card, loaded only TN-B, HBL r109, Patapon and exploit, PSAR and the 5.00 update eboot. Got the version.txt, placed in seplugins folder. deleted the old eboot and psardumper. loaded the 5.03 firmware update into Game/UDPATE. Loaded hen, set fakeindex.dat to enabled, restarted vsh, and succesfully installed the 5.03 update. I almost freaked out, when i pressed x to restart, the blue information screen came up, i pressed circle to repair, the system restarted to firmware version 5.03. I repeat, it is possible to downgrade a 3g PSP 3000 from 6.20 to 5.03. I didnt think to take a video until i was halfway through, i grabbed my cell phone and started recording, the video shows the update finishing, the blue screen, and rebooting to 5.03. I will upload it to youtube if anyone wants.

Kasherick in your method what do you mean by the gend3 folder? i downloaded 5.50 gend3 straight from psp-hacks but the eboot in my UPDATE folder says to put 550 at the root, not in the same folder in order for it to work. Once i do so and try to install it gets stuck during the process of installing and crashes, luckily i can then turn off to restart into 6.20. Could you please tell me what im doing wrong? For anyone who is wondering. If you saw the post on psp-gen for the downgrade. I just successfully completed a downgrade to 5.03 Official, and then used ChickHEN to upgrade to 5.03 GenC firmware for HEN. Using my PSP-3000. I used the complete package download they have available. Simple shit.

I recommend not trying to downgrade, I no u may see people commenting that they have done it, but there is no video proof/ any proof. I remember seeing haters(6.31 & higher users) from the pages telling the 6.20 users to do things to brick your psp. Just wait a bit, or try if u want, but i rather wait then have a brick psp.

well if u put it in the root of the mem it wont read it some times so wat i did was place the 5.50.pbp in the root of the memstick and in the update folder so the update will read it and if it crashes try taking out the mem and restarting the vsh menu and now try 2 quickly load it, i'll try 2 upload a vid as soon as posible nd like i said ihavent tried it on the new 6.20tn-b if thats the 1 you guys are on

I just test it in a 1000 and 2000 psp and it worked fine. I don't have a 3000, but tomorrow I'll test it in one of this. Both psp were hacked by me with 5.50 gend3 and prometheus 4. Tonight I put back an official firmware(5.00) with pandora and then upgraded to 6.20. I put the eboot of the new hen in ms0:/hbl/GAME/EBOOT.PBP and run the Patapon demo. After all the steps were done, although I have yet the 6.20, the version.txt allow me to downgrade to 5.03 without problem. I want to try this in a psp 3000 with 5.50 ofw and then to use the chickHen hack.

Guys, I tried this on my PSP-3000 and it worked flawlessly (I downgraded from 6.20 TN-B to 5.03 Gen-C). I'll give you the step by step process here:

1.) Start 6.2 TN-B.

2.) Download the following files:
- PSAR Dumper with OFW 5.00 eboot.pbp.
- 5.03 Official Firmware eboot.pbp

3.) Place PSAR Dumper in the PSP/GAME folder like you would any other homebrew and copy the eboot.pbp to the root of your memory stick.

4.) Open PSAR Dumper on your memory stick and press circle/O.

5.) After the program finishes, connect the USB cable to your PSP and navigate to the folder F0 which should now be at the root of your memory stick. Then open the "vsh" folder and then the "etc" folder. Copy the file "version.txt".

6.) Go to the root of your memory stick and create a folder called "seplugins". Copy the "version.txt" to the "seplugins" folder.

7.) Go back into your PSP and press select to bring up the vsh menu. Go to "Fake Index.dat" and change it to "enabled". Next, select "restart vsh".

8.) Copy the 5.03 OFW eboot to "PSP/GAME/UPDATE/eboot.pbp" (use that exact path).

9.) On your PSP, go to your memory stick and begin the 5.03 OFW installation and install it as you would any other firmware.

10.) After it finishes, the PSP will restart and a blue screen will appear saying that the PSP settings are invalid. Press circle/O and the PSP will restore default settings and restart. You now have 5.03 OFW installed and can install ChickHen and 5.03 Gen-C (I'm using it now).

Someone please help me. I am using the tutorial to downgrade from pspgen.com, but it does not work. When i check my system settings, it says Version 5.00, but when i load the 5.03 updater, it boots to a black screen then shuts my psp off. I have a psp 3001 and have followed all the steps, formatted my memory stick and it all leads to the same outcome. i tried downgrading to 5.02 AND 5.01 and neither have worked. I am getting frustrated and wan Prometheus v4 5.03 on my psp. I have had a theory: the psardumper included in pspgens package did not work for my psp. It had a problem decrypting a certain key then it would exit without finishing. So i used the psardumper meant for 6.00-6.20 and it worked and I got the version.txt. Did I do something wrong? ok. downgrading PSP3000 4g isn't possible but on 3g it is. just tested it.

on psp3000 4G when you run the 5.03 firmware update it hangs after the splash. might be because 4G really can't support 5.03 firmware or 5.51 and below firmware....

anyway, i think we should just wait for a custom firmware for 6.20 tn-B. it'll be sooner or later. and much better the the later.

I have found a way to skip the irritating patapon game sequence. first u load the 6.20 tn-b, load any homebrew. when u quit the homebrew using the home button, ALWAYS choose (pause game). If your psp shuts down by itself, u don't have to load the patapon game anymore. Simply load your paused game, then you'll have the 6.20 loaded already. Just remember to pause game every time u exit a homebrew

The same thing happened to me. I spoofed my psp 3000 (TA-090 v2 mobo) to the official 5.00 firmware update then "upgraded" to 5.03 OFW. After the 5.03 update finished it restarted and got past the "sony computer entertainment" screen then was just stuck on a white screen every time I cold booted it. I thought it was bricked. It was a "semi-brick". I forgot to turn off flash0 protection in 6.20 tn-b before i downgraded to 5.03. HERE IS HOW TO FIX IT!!! Hold the Triangle, Square, Select, and Start button at the same time then turn on your PSP (turn on while pressing all those buttons). It will boot into the initial setup for 5.03!!! FIXED!!! I also call it a nub. If it were a stick it would pop out like those aeroplane controllers (which I think they're called joysticks).

Anyway, an analog nub is pretty cheap. Something like 5-6 USD. And there are tons of tutorials on Youtube for replacing it. It's no big deal. An afternoon off and some patience would get the job done.

PSP 1000 doesn't have it attached to the motherboard so it's very easy to replace it. I didn't even have the right screwdriver so I had to file down an old one for it to fit into the hole.

Not sure about any solid proof. I have never heard of anyone bricking their Go and since this is the first time we have ever had kernel access on the Go i am sure nobody has ever tried it. There certainly seems to be a number of people saying it can't be done. I am inclined to agree but like i said this is a first for kernel access so unless someone tried it this week nobody has tried it.

I am still thinking of trying on my spare Go with the cracked screen. It will need to be sent to Sony to fix the screen so they will unbrick it while it's there. I may try this within a couple of days unless someone can offer me some actual proof that it cannot be done.

"Legit" EBOOT ? Well, if it was bought from PSN when you had 6.31 you had to save a certain "purchased content" file from flash1 (or was it flash2) to your computer before attempting anything. Because once you reflash your PSP they're gone. Maybe you can redownload it again... But the PSN itself will ask for a newer firmware version.

Meh... I'd probably be easier just to download the game from somewhere else, same region so the save games work - tho they'll probably need converting too since they were saved with a different firmware version, hehe... What a pickle.

Why wouldn't it work ? The exploit is software-based. There's a hole in 5.03 that well, ChickHEN takes advantage of.

Think of it this way: If you put Windows XP SP1 on a modern computer do you think the modern computer isn't vulnerable to IE6 exploits ?

It takes advantage of how 5.03 works - the kernel from 5.03 and all the other files that make up 5.03. Also, this is Sony we're talking about. I'm 99.9% sure it doesn't have anything to do with the hardware. Just like Linux can run on the PS3 Slim.

for psp1000,psp2000(non -ta088v3) and psp2000(ta088v3)
i think the downgrade works(sorry i don't have any psp2000(ta088v3) to test it).

for psp3000(use pspindent first in 6.20 tn-b(HEN) to know if your motherboard are3g or 4g).

if your psp3000 are 3g the downgrade works until 4.20 only.

if your psp3000 are 4g the downgrade works but not later than 5.70 firmware same as for psp GO.

"Permanent" CFW works on PSPs under TA-88v3.
(all 1000 models and most of 2000)

"Temporary" CFW works on PSPs above TA-88v3.
(some 2000, all 3000 and now the Go)

Trying to install "permanent" when you know you can only have "partial" is a great recepie for a ciorba de BRICK.

As far as I know, no one can install "permanent" CFW because nobody has the in-depth schematics for the motherboards except Sony and nobody knows the pre IPL *except* Sony. Well, maybe Dark Alex could. The man is a legend ! But the other developers won't even try it because they're usually not made of money to experiment [with PSPs that can't be unbricked] more than maybe a few times.

Maybe if the community were to pitch in for a few dozen PSPs... Hmph. Like that's gonna happen.

Downgraded my 3004 from 6.20 to 5.03 without too much trouble. First I used psardumper to dump version.txt with 5.00 EBOOT.PBP in root folder. And then it was "updated" to 5.03. I cant downgrade my psp 3004 to 5.03 after starting TN-HEN b
and enabling fake index.dat i try to update.
my psp agrees to boot the update file (5.03) but after that i only black screen and after that my psp restarts.

maybe thats because my psp came with 6.10 when i bought it form store. that means i have the psp 4g.

and all psp 4g models are only able to downgrade to 6.00 so any psp 4g owner don't expect any downgrades to 5.03(at least currently there is no way).

BTW tn hen b is not also bad just waiting for psx loader and some plugin support like remote joy, irshell, etc.

someone please create a thread on the fourms which will list all supported plugins and homebrew with tn hen B and also for future releases.

Tried putting OFW 5.03 on it...followed the instructions...doesnt work on my PSP 3002. Just loads, Black screen...then turns off. Ah well, Il just wait for CFW for 6.20 :)

I'm using a 3000 psp on 6.20 firmware. have the patapon demo, hbl etc. so what do i need to do now? i'm just curious as i don't wanna brick the psp.

My cfw now is 6.20 TN-B with my psp3000.
The problem is if i am going to launch 5.03 update, it doesn’t run, but rather it will just pop out a dark screen then shut off. what would be the remedy for this?

I am using PSP3000 6.20 TN-B right now. But i want to downgrade it to 5.03...

I followed all the steps also using PSADUMPER with my PSP3000, pasting the 5.03 eboot file on the root of my MS, making a SEPLUGINS folder on the root of my MS with a version.txt 5.00 inside. Copying and pasting 5.03 OFW EBOOT file inside PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder. I enabled 6.20 TN-B HEN, then press select, then i ENABLED the "fake index.dat" and restart my vsh. I tried to launch out 5.03 UPDATE but still it will just pop out a semi-black screen then turns off. Following the tricks like holding the keys "square + trianlge + select + start" together, then i turn on my psp still holding all the keys, still the initial setup for 5.03 update did not come out, but rather it is just like a short cut of putting the psp to its DEFAULT showing in the screen what language i'm going to use..i hope you pictured it out for all the helpers here. :(

I reset everything, then starting again to the first step, trying to ENABLE and DISABLE "protect flash 0" on the vsh menu... but still the same problem occurs.

Please help me. Do i need to download other 5.03 OFW UPDATE? I mean is there another 5.03 update ofw out there?

I also downloaded PSPident v4 and v6, and installed it to my psp/game. My problem is it can't detect my motherboard and its version. Is there any software there that i can use to detect my motherboard and its version please? That is compatible with my PSP3000 6.20 TN-B. Any link please? I know this will HELP others too.

My PSP Got Brick i followed all the steps in order to download from 6.20 to 5.03 btw my psp model is psp2003 made from china .. when i finished downgrade from 6.20 to 5.03 and after my psp ask me to restart then i'll wait for the blue screen but nothing happen it stuck in white screen and after 10min of waiting on that white screen display i restart my psp and nothing happen it the same display only white screen please help me my psp is brick???? what should i do please reply

this doesn't work for me. one I enter the screen for the HEN it used to say memory overload (or similar) and return to main psp screen. Now it just goes black and returns to the psp screen.

upgraded my PSP 3000 5.03 to 6.20ofw
then installed tn-b and can play games and plugins then after that i try to play with my psp again this morning and it wont turn on! no green light no nothing, i tried to remove my battery waited for a minute try it again and it still wont boot up! even when i tried to use the charger still the light wont show up.

is there any way? i think it pwned T.T
