PSX-P Beta 1 Released

Update: Maybe not so remarkable afterall... I've received numerous emails indicating Yoshihiro has actually ripped most, if not the majority, of code and released it as his own. In actual fact this is PacManFan's PSPSone emulator released a few months ago. We'll continue to keep it hosted for now; nice work PacManFan. ;)

Wow... Another remarkable accomplishment today... Yoshihiro has released the first beta of PSX-P. PSX-P emulates the Sony Playstation (PSOne) which marked its spot on the scene back in 1994-95.

PSX-P has been confirmed to work on firmware 1.0 - 1.50, and 2.00 - 2.60 via eLoader. Of course this remains in the early stages of development so you shouldn't expect complete stability just yet. In fact it's mentioned that execution is slow due to lack of an optimized dynarec (dynamic compiler). Nevertheless -- give it a try and provide your feedback below! ROMs are distributed in ISO or BIN format -- we will not provide links to these; however, we will gladly provide you with the URL to the required SCPH1001.BIN file, the PS1 BIOS. Its gotta start somewhere, this may be a shaky release but it will develop either by these fellows or by others who improve on it.

By any means these guys have done a wonderfull thing. They beat sont to the relase of a psx emu.

some good work and although it may not be stable, its one hella of a proof of concept. I cud see a few work arounds the L2 and R2 buttons, my idea wud be use the D pad left and right buttons. Since the PS1 didnt originally have 2 analog sticks, there wudnt be a problem with movement as the analog stick on the PSP wud be used as the PS1 D pad or use the analog stick for L2 or R2, whichever prefered. as for disk swapping, i think there may have to be USB/WIFI implementation to support all the large ISO files, or just run it through iRshell! anyways damn fine work.

It's a good start but not really playable right now. The only ISOS i have on my drive that work (well load up) are street fighter ex2 and Raiden (shooting game). Castlevania doesn't work right now. This emulator shows a lot of promise. I just hope we can start a thread of working games when the emulator has other releases.

You say it has to start somewhere. No shit, but don't "start" a homebrew app that hardly works at all, and release. It can start wherever the Hell it wants, but the Finished product is a completely different story. I don't understand people who use that N64 emulator. It's bullshit, and I'm sick of seeing worthless apps that come out just so the coders can say, "Yeah I made this." Sweet, what exactly is it that you made? An emulator that runs 8 FPS? Hardly an emulator. Just because it can load most/some/hardly any games, doesn't make it worth time. And as for you saying, "If you want one so bad, make it yourself." No, dumbass, haha. THIS IS GREAT. WON`T NEED TO UPDATE TO 3.0 TO GET PS1 EMU AND WON`T HAVE TO PAY FOR GAME IMAGES IF YOU HAVE ORIGIONAL PS1 GAMES.
Just rip them with ISOBUSTER to get the bin files.
Nice work and much respect. ps you don`t need the ps1 bios for this to work either. It works as is. So don`t bother with the stupid bios. PASSWORD for the zip file is www.pspgen.com yust copy and paste the website address into winzip. place bin files in folder f:\psp\game\__S CE__PSXP\roms\

Now guys, this is a very good thing. Can you imagine playing PSX games on your PSP? It's probably the best thing to happen to homebrew since GBA become fully playable.

Think about it, if Sony is releasing PSOne games for your PSP via emulation, then it is possible to have a great emulator homebrew, IMHO.

anyway on a PSP you just drag the psp folder to the root folder in your psp. then drag your PS1 images into the folder named "ROMS"

and again, Everyone that flames saying it "dosent work" needs to get a life, or preferably end theirs. Lets give these coders some credit and do the bug testing.

I feel ya. Everyone would love any kind of emulator right now. I just wish I knew when Sony was planning on releasing it. As much buzz that is going around with the 3.0 release with a PSX emulator, could someone link me to some kind of article on it? Not a forum, I don't want to look forward to nothing, because that will be one of the biggest deals Sony has to offer. And the only deal (besides the web browser) that is worth an update to the PSP.

I normally dont download early emulators but I tried this one w/ a GTA2 and Tekken 3 and they worked better then I thought. I actually was winnin in tekken 3 and its nearly as fast as daedalus already.

Congratulations to all that made this emu possible, all the coders, designers, and guys helping them, With what short time the psp has been out it has taken a lot of the old systems that we used to play and put them on the most powerful hand held device. As my opinon I think that this is amazing work and they will make it like it should be, but with all of US (the gamers) we are doing them a favor by giving feedback so they can spend more time fixing the problems one at a time, Thank You all who took part in this and all of the psp Homebrew gaming.

You know, reading what #108 said, it makes me think about the PSP in general. It is just a powerhouse for anything. I mean stepping away from the media features, you can look for wi-fi spots, go online right there. Using homebrew you can watch TV on your PSP via wi-fi. You can use it to emulate other handhelds, and even consoles. Pretty much every console that is out, it is emulated, all on one single device. I mean if that Strmmnnmmnmnmn guy can get his N64 emulator working, and a PSX emulator comes out or something, it's just amazing to realize what it is actually capable of. (Large thanks to homebrew.)

I remember that one kid got Windows 95 running on his PSP, and Mac. Everyone shot that down too, saying, "How pathetic, PSP owners use their PSP to emulate other systems because the PSP sucks." I couldn't help but think, man... think about how stupid that is. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of PSP games too and they keep me busy, there is just other times when I'd rather play a good ol' fashion Ninja Gaiden NES, or Sega, ect. ect. So no, it's not that we run other systems on the PSP because we think the PSP sucks, we run it BECAUSE we know we can, and it just adds onto the possibilities, new additions, new features, other games, more time spent using it, better travel device, the list goes on. And not to start DS bashing, I don't like it, but if what I just listed up there is not a reason to get a PSP over a DS for first choosing, then I just don't know what is. We have a media powerhouse capable of pretty much everything, and I'd much rather have smooth 60FPS, outstanding 3D graphics with a bright colored LCD screen over any other handheld.

So to this PSX-Emu Work In Progress, keep it going, make it live up to an actual PSX emulator. It will surely be worth it if it does.

And if not, fuck it we'll wait for Sony to make us one. XD

i tried gt2 and it works, slow but this is only alpha.
mine is in bin format the text is a lil fuzzy, no sound and the aspect ratio is widescreen so the cars look stretched. but hey its better than nothing, its a start and hopefully someone will continue to improve it. ps1 games are mad cheap and who knows how much sony is gonna charge to download games for their emulator. lots of people have got ps1 games laying around colecting dust. oh yeah i used isobuster to extract my games as raw bin i tried blastermaster and twisted metal but they didn't work. i dl gt2 from torrent and it worked so maybe i did something wrong with isobuster.

Why do you think he released his homebrew early??? its cause he has the start of something that can be made into something great. look at other homebrew... loads of other hackers and programers have shown us what they have started with! look at the N64 emu!!! it was showing us what could been possible if he put more work into it. its not like this guy just sed "here is my emu and thats all im doing to it. enjoy" i think this is a great break thru on new homebrew for the psp. even sony have had a bit of trouble getting psx games to run on psp at first but thats the whole point of programming. if you could make a program and release it without problems thats a bonus!!! i bet this guy has had some programers trying to get a hold of him to help him develop this homebrew to make it work fully.
i realy hope this does become a great piece of homebrew as it will make the psp have loads of classic games to play like the FF7+ and other great titles. Good luck to the development of this homebrew and dont listen to some of these losers!!!

For anyone looking for the iso's, just dust off some of your old psone games and rip the iso to your computer with isobuster. I've only tried 2 games and neither work, so if u try a game and it works even so slightly, make a list and post it on here so we dont keep trying the same games to see if they start. So far i've tried:
Castlevania SOTN - it booted then shut off the psp
LoK: Blood Omen - Didn't even make out of the program menu before it froze.

I have a vr 2.60 psp & i have the eloader 098.
I go in the e loader menu and i see this file:
[__SCE__PSXP] when i press x i see my iso game in this case i tried crash bandicoot 3 warped & frogger 2 but neither of them worked because when i press X to load the game, the menu of the eloader shows up again.????
Is this the cause of the eloader or i did something wrong?

Please help me 10x!!

actually, it is a PS2, it was a media centre version of the PS2 and its interface resembles the PSP XMB. It Also has a built in HDD and dvd recorder. unlucky for us, it was only released in japan in 2003. So before you jump the gun and start insulting everyones intelligence, do some homework.
