NO, it will not work on the PSP-2000 and newer models, because there is no IR port available.

What you talk about should be simple. If anyone has used remotejoylite you can map keyboard keys to control the PSP from the PC. It would be pretty much the same thing just interpreting the PS2 or PS3 controller commands and making your own mini usb-b to mini usb-b cable.
Only problem is how to power it without draining the battery on the PSP with PS2 controllers since they have no battery in them.

Each button sends a code that is unique. The joystick is just two variable resistors that send an analog value to a AtoD chip usually It's also over USB not serial if you are talking about my post. I'm not trying to do it just telling the other guy things to look up to get started if he wanted to do it.
