The GEN team has de-crypty-crypted PSP firmware 6.00, analyzed those unencrypted bits and bytes, and has now shared their findings... Here's what up -- (Translated by way of Google Translate) First:

They have paid enough money to add enough lockouts that people CAN NOT currently hack their software. Yes, GEN used existing technology to see how the installer for 6.00 runs... They still have no ability to release a CFW based on it. It's not that they are unwilling, it is that they CAN'T. I have no idea if DA has superior ability to do this, but it would seem he does not. Ego aside, If hackers can hack something, they will. There is no unwillingness of these teams to release new CFWs. They simply do not have the ability.

It's better off that they don't make anymore until around holiday season if you ask me. That way some people will actually SUPPORT the game developers and give them a reason to make more games for the system. That is, unless everyone is happy with the less than 20 DECENT titles for the PSP.

It just might be a good thing to wait it out and let some of the " DAX and GEN " haters to go OFW and buy the games.

I think Sony have done well to lock the firmware. Forget about playing new games with you use CFW, even if you buy the software etc. Soon CFW users will miss out on GranTurismo PSP, Peacewalker etc. Even buying the discs wont help.

I'm not a hardcore gamer and I have minimum knowledge of how "homebrews", "emulators", and "CFWs" are created and run, but I do enjoy the features these things offer on my PSP. I know everyone has his/her opinions on these matters, but I believe a simple "thank you" to these people like DA and GEN should be the least we can do rather than taking sides and trash talking others. I personally don't know DA or GEN or their history well and I'm not trying to be a kiss ass to either. However, I have respect for these people because they're offering me something they've worked hard for without compensation. So rather than complaining about not getting the latest updates from them soon enough, I will wait patiently while enjoying what I have so far. Since I don't have enough knowledge in these matters to help speed up their progress, the least I can do is not to give unnecessary complaints like some of the above comments that would just discourage those people from providing further services to the public. there comes times when a person is so exceptionally misinformed and stupid that I have to step in and correct them. this is one of those times.

lets make this short. DAX did not simply "quit". remember back when people were experimenting with the GripShift exploit? remember how HellDashX had a working kernel exploit for it, but Alek accused him of stealing the exploit from DAX? well, that exploit just happened to be DAX's "ace in the whole", so to speak. that exploit was the only reason DAX was able to make so many CFWs. it was an exploit present in EVERY single OFW. he never publicly release this exploit because if he had Sony would have patched it. now skip forward a few weeks. remember ChickHEN? sure you do. well, it just so happens that the kernel exploit used in ChickHEN is the same exploit that HellDashX almost released. so.. whats that have to do with anything?

well, once ChickHEN was released, Sony immediately patched it. remember OFW 5.05? yeah, you do. and remember how HEN didnt work on it any more? what happened is that Sony patched DAX's only way of exploiting the FWs, thereby making him unable to make any future CFWs. he was understandably pissed about this, and basically said "fuck it. you guys are on your own". so you can blame that fag who released ChickHEN for there not being a 6.00 M33 (or GEN, because we all know they just hex edit that shit)

Who cares if another CFW is made as long as the ISO's and CSO's work. I modded my psp, ps2, xbox 360, orignal xbox, ps2 and wii myself all softmods. I know ps3 doesn't have any but that console is junk and has no games or ps2 backward compatibility so i will never buy one. I have over 4TB of data / pirated shit..... As for the psp 3000 well if it can play games fullscreen on a 720p tv without fucking borders and CFW installed to flash i will buy one. If it wasn't for CFW i wouldn't own a psp cause i don't buy games except some on pc i like to play online. I own 2 original psp games and have over 100 iso/cso's and tons of ps1 eboot i converted myself so my psp would be a brick with OFW. Why buy shit when you can get it for free. Long live TPB.......

Dark Alex was the one who found a way around that with his Custom Firmwares.

However, his method of decrypting firmwares was released. It never should have been. Now he can't decrypt the firmwares anymore!

He's not going to find a new method, because it never should have been released in the first place. I would be pissed if years and years of my work was just thrown back in my face when I trusted somebody with it.

Geez, it's hard to believe all those suckers who have no respect for DA. If it's not DA, there won't even be GEN firmware. GEN just stole DA's work and claimed theirs.

Do you even know why GEN said there won't be 6.00GEN for public? There are no 6.0M33, GEN has no where to copy and steal. All GEN did for their 5.xGEN firmwares was they stole various modules from DA's 5.00M33. This is also why 5.50GEN was so buggy, 'cos DA's patching modules was designed for 5.00 firmware.

Now, Sony has changed a lot in 6.0 firmware and by re-applying DA's 5.00M33 patching to 6.0 firmware simply won't work. Even GEN said that themselves, there is no 6.00M33, so there won't be 6.00GEN.

DAX made first Proof Of Concept CFW that didn't really do much but prove its possiblity, Harlyg made first real CFW back in 2005. DAX then built upon the concept and made CFW very popular with his SE series of CFW. This shows that CFW was a fairly hot topic back then and that comments like "without DAX we would have nothing." or "DAX created this, if he didn't no one would." are just plain dumb. If he didn't do it someone woulda and then they woulda had the same respect and "fame" as DAX today. DAX was important, and he deserves his credit but he is not a god. In my opinion he, inadvertantly mind you, actually inpeded cfw production in that everyone got the mind set that we should just leave it to him and so he pretty much got the monopoly on cfw and then anyone else who tried to make their own was either a copycat, sometimes true, or were just not trusted since they were not DAX. In conclusion, DAX did great work and i wouldn't say needs to be respected but at least givin credit and i wouldn't say he made cfw just proved that it was possible and after harlyg took it to a new level and made it mainstream.

the reason 5.00 m33 was the last m33 firmware is because future firmwares had limitations that meant they would not be as good as 5.00 m33. 1.5 kernel support will never be released on gen. so dark alex focused on cementerio. on cementerio i can boot 3.40 oe full with 1.5 fat. by using pspfiler and some ingenuity i can boot between gen c and 5.00 m33 while running remote play on 6.00. so theirs no reason to update from 5.00 m33 until yoshiro decrypter stops supporting 5.00 m33. and if remote play doesnt interest you then 5.00 will be the best firmware to play all your homebrew without needing to install it to the memstick.
