Submitted by greg; May 25, 2011

CFW-master, neur0n, has released yet another custom firmware, which again is for PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 models only. So if you're a longtime PSP'er and you like rockin' the absolute latest in terms of official firmware, but you still want your [unsigned] homebrew and ISOs, then update to 6.39 ME v1. Yessir -- have your cake and eat it too. And like neur0n's other custom firmwares, you can dual-boot OFW by pressing and holding the "Home" button on startup. Now that's cool. Features
  • Support Unsigned Homebrew
  • Support Extra module ( = plugins )
  • Support ISO mount with M33driver, NP9660driver, OEdriver, NormalDriver and MEdriver
  • Support UMD video
  • Support converted PSX(PS1) game and custom DOCUMENT.DAT
  • Unlock 480x272 avc video
  • Unlock max display brightness lenel without AC adapter
  • Unlock ExtraMemory for Homebrew ( slim only )
  • Unlock Slim color in XMB.(need to prepare bmp file
  • Support USB battery charging
  • Support CPU speed control
  • Support hide PIC0.PNG and PIC1.PNG option
  • Support Flash0/1/2/3/UMD mount with USB
  • Support fake region
  • Support Battery EEPROM option in recovery menu
  • Support to load Unsignated module
  • Support to load packed ( with Dark_AleX's psp-packer ) module
Install
  1. Install an existing CFW or HEN first; 5.00 M33 / 5.50 GEN / 6.20 TN-D / 6.20 and 6.35 PRO-B5 are good to go
  2. Download the OFW 6.39 update, extract and rename EBOOT.PBP to 639.PBP
  3. Copy 639.PBP to PSP/GAME/UPDATE on your memory stick
  4. Download and extract the CFW 6.39 ME v1 package
  5. Copy UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP to PSP/GAME/UPDATE
  6. Run the 6.39 ME v1 Installer from the XMB
See Readme.txt for more info. Update: neur0n has quickly released v2, fixing a silly bug where your PSP would crash when trying to access PSN. Download: PSP CFW 6.39 ME v2 PSP OFW 6.39 - source: @neur0ner

This CFW could be essential when the PSN store is back (hopefully by the end of this month).

1.Coldboot to Recovery Menu, under configuration=> disable "use version.txt".
2.If for some reason that doesn't work, hook your psp to computer and Toggle Flash0 via Recovery Menu. It's under Advanced=>Toggle USB (Flash0). Once it opens up on your computer you will need to replace the 9.90 version.txt that's located at vsh/etc/version.txt, any version.txt lower than the update you want to install is fine.
or
3.If your worried about accessing flash0, just use Hellcats Recovery Flasher 1.65 to install 5.00m33-6. You can update to this with ease from 5.00m33. You can even back-up your 5.50Gen in case you want it back. You'll have to replace that version.txt in the flash_backup if you want to restore it though(easy). Just remember you cannot restore a back-up of neurons ME firmwares. It will brick you up. I don't know why.
Hope that gives you some options :)

Neuron is always on the ball. This is the second time in a row he's ported his firmware to the latest update within 24 hours. Just for you Phat/Slim owners that are just now thinking about trying his CFW, I have never once had to patch a iso for it to load on 6.37/6.38ME.

If it weren't for the fact that neur0n speaks Japanese, I would think he was Dark_AleX himself. He's quick on porting, fixing bugs, and just making an all around stable custom firmware with numerous built-in features.

Good work neur0n!

How do you play iso's with this update?

Reply

# Chris Holmes 2011-05-25 22:09
Most likely the same as with all CFW.  In the root of your memory stick, create a folder called ISO.  Inside that put all the ISO/CSO games you want or can fit.  To play them look in your memory stick under game and they should be there.

Anyway, i don't use much plug-ins only those that are important, so i'd still say this is a great latest CFW since i havent encountered any freeze yet while playing most of my PSX games not using POPSloader....

I did have a couple loading problems when trying the ME driver. Once I switched to the Sony driver 3rd birthday, dissidia-duodecim, all my others loaded fine for me. I made my back-ups on 6.37me. I have no idea if that makes a difference, though.

Well if you use a lot of plugins i would stick with M33 at least until most of the plugin are updated to work with 6.39 ME if they are... but if you don't use many plugins then update to 6.39ME it not bad at all. I gave it a try then went back to M33-6 because i use a lot of different plugins such as game categories and CXMB

Thats because 6.69ME can't boot on OFW. You have to be running CFW or HEN. If you have a pandora battery this will be easy but if not then run the 6.3x Downgrader and downgrade to 6.20 OFW and install 6.20 PRO-B5 and then run the 6.39ME install.

There's a bug in this firmware, don't know if anyone else noticed it...

The game Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles runs. However on the title
screen, when you select Original game and after selecting Rondo of Blood or
even Symphony of the Night, the PSP returns to XMB and gives error '80020148'.

Cheers.

Dead? Do you me dead as in needs to be charged? or dead as no longer charging/not working? Or if all else fails run the 6.3x Downgrader its signed so it will run on OFW downgrade to 6.35 or 6.20 run ether 6.35Pro or 6.20Pro and try the install again.

Yes it works, i was from 6.38-ME3 and upgraded to 6.39-ME2 with no problems....

And to those who are having problems with game saves getting corrupted, 5.50 Gen-Dx/PromX somehow does something with your save files that the later 6.xx firmwares(not sure bout this but happend to me) aren't able to read it and says its corrupted, you have no choice but to either make a new save/stick with 5.50 GEN-Dx/PromX CFW for those saves to work....

Your choice is to return to your old firmware, if its 5.50 GEN-DX/PROMX then im sure 6.xx firmwares wont be able to read some of the game saves specially of newer games so your choice is to make a new game/stay with that firmware, i also had those problems with newer games like dissidia/lego pirates/etc. no choice but to make a new game.....

I think that patched ISO's dont work well with this firmware(in my experience atm).... Its better to have a non-patched game iso and use NP9660/ME driver than M33.... Well thats just me and i'm not having problems atm....

Here is another solution, update to 6.20/6.35 then from there run TN-E/PRO-B5 cfw then update to 6.39-ME2...

I update a fat 1004 and a slim 2004 from 5.50genD3 prometheus 4 and had to edit version.txt from flash0 in recovery and disabled all plugins, but I had no other problems with the update.
Just follow the update instructions and will be fine (remember to enable is emulator vrom vsh menu or recovery)
Good Luck!

Do not install with pandora if the normal update procedure says that the file is incorrect. First make sure that the file you downloaded is correct. Download with firefox, then with google-chrome, then with opera or other browser and verify the file sizes.

most, if not all VSH plugins dont work.. this includes:
[VSH]Game_catag ories.prx
[VSH]Day_Viewer .prx
these are basically the only VSH plugins i use.
i have yet to try the GAME plugins, like NightPR
when the plugins are turned on, the psp wont boot up, just a black screen like it's bricked.

So i take it when you try to start your PSP with out a pandora battery you just get a black screen am i right? Then try to boot to the recovery menu (holding R at start) then if you get there go in and disable all plugins and try rebooting.

Try experimenting with different ISO drivers.  Some games may not play on certain drivers.  The M33 Driver is always reliable for me.

My PSP won't boot at all anymore unless I'm holding down the Home button, but that only allows me to boot into OFW mode.

I can still use R to boot into the recovery menu, but if I try booting into CFW my PSP crashes on a black screen!

I believe I was using 5.50 GEN before and I have a model 1001 PSP.

Pff, don't work:

-iso games
-homebrews apps (facebook, twitter...)
-all plugins (when i deleted the SEPLUGINS folder, can i use my psp)
-and the 6.3x downgrader don't work for 6.39ME-2

And i can downgrade with hellcat's recovery flasher 1.65 to 5.00m33

No not with this installer use this one
http://www.psp-hacks.com/2011/...

Just make sure your PSP Slim is not a TA-088v3 you will most likely brick your PSP and then your fucked.

Run this http://www.psp-hacks.com/2011/...

Then install PSPIDENT and check your motherboard

http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/...

Even if your PSP is hackable i would still have a Pandora battery and MMS on standby just in case.

Not trying to be mean but this was posted like 10 times.

its your version.txt file

1.Coldboot to Recovery Menu, under configuration=> disable "use version.txt".
2.If for some reason that doesn't work, hook your psp to computer and Toggle
Flash0 via Recovery Menu. It's under Advanced=>Toggle USB (Flash0).
Once it opens up on your computer you will need to replace the 9.90
version.txt that's located at vsh/etc/version.txt, any version.txt lower than the update you want to install is fine.
--------------
So in short replace all 9.90s in the version.txt file with something lower then 6.39, like 6.35.

# Robin 2011-05-31 21:39
I think theres two ways of doing that one is to find the version.txt file on the psp thru USB open it and find where it says 9.90 then change it version to 5.50, the other Is to go into the recovery menu, select configuration then go to the bottom where it says Use version.txt and disable it.

But in the meantime Im using PSP Custom Firmware 6.39 PRO-B6 for those games until the issue is solved.

Also yes I noticed neur0n's updated it to V3 but it still doesn't work unfortunately T_T

Keep up the good work neur0n! Ill be waiting for your update! I hate having to use PRO-B6! loading it over and over again is a pain!

I tried to put an iso or cso game file but  it fails to appear and the message was no game on memory card. does it have a boot file to be install on the memory card for the iso or cso game to run? what boot file is compatible to firmware v6.39? how to install it?

Thanx
