PSP Custom Firmware 6.20/6.35/6.39 PRO-B6 Released

Submitted by greg; May 29, 2011

Hack-master neur0n isn't the only one holding the scene down -- released [semi] fresh is PSP Custom Firmware PRO-B6 from Liquidzigong! It's for anyone running 6.20, 6.35 or 6.39. And it's compatible with just about every PSP model and revision too. Compatibility
  • 6.20 [1g, 2g, 3g, 4g, 5g]
  • 6.35 [1g, 2g, 3g, 4g, 5g, 7g, 9g]
  • 6.39 [1g, 2g, 3g, 4g, 5g, 7g, 9g]
Features
  • Homebrew Compatible - Run your own unsigned applications, both user and kernel mode.
  • Plugin Compatible - Add new features to your PSP via kernel mode background plugins.
  • ISO / CSO Game Dump Playback - Backup your own UMD discs via USB and play them from Flash Storage.
  • 2g+ Memory Range Unlock - Use the previously locked RAM range within your own homebrews.
  • NODRM Engine - Use your bought DLCs, no matter on which PSN account you are currently logged in.
  • PSX Emulator Unlock - Play your PSX classics, yes - all of them. Not just PSN titles.
  • And a lot more...
As for the PRO-B6 change log, I'm not sure... 6.39 support is obviously new and it's a safe bet some bugs have been squashed. The actual change log is not included nor mentioned on the new Google Code project page (follow source link). How do you install it? Check this page out. Update: And the change log says...
  • [!]Fixed NODRM Engine on Dissidia Duodecim
  • [!]Fixed High Capacity Bug
  • [!]Fixed Bug in np9660
  • [!]Fixed button-input related startup freeze
  • [!]Fixed rare crash in exploiting stage
  • [+]Added 6.39 Kernel Support

Can I just upgrade directly to 6.20 pro-b6 from 6.20 pro-b5? Or do I have to uninstall it first?

edit: nvm, I just uninstalled it then updated to pro-b6. lol.

You'll lose the perm-patch, but 6.39 would be freakin' awesome for online play. Has anyone tested 6.39 online? Do we still need some plugins to go online?

I've run into a problem. When I press the SELECT button to open the VSH menu it opens some kind of invisible menu that takes up most of the screen. The background (original xmb menu) gets blurry as if there's some kind of different menu. It changes size and stuff when I press various buttons. If I click the CIRCLE button it goes back to a normal VSH menu but the only way to exit from it is by clicking EXIT and not just clicking the CIRCLE button again.

Has anyone else run into the same problem? I can run the CFW just fine except for this... thing.

If you're not a dev, you don't need it. Since this is GPL license it's required to include the sdk. Also, you can compile it yourself.

well Drastico this sounds like i problem i have been having.   try turning off the plugin custom firmware extender. it tends to do that buggy stuff at times.
(the blurr is caused by the menu for it trying to come up in the XMB after your have run a homebrew or game)

you never did all you have to do is set the fake region to Debug Type I or enable version.txt and put a txt file in your Seplugins folder that just says what the latest firmware is.  OR yeah you can just use a plugin like PSN fucker.

Okay, this isn't working at all for me. Granted, this is my first CFW, so that isn't surprising to me.
I tried it on my Day One PSP-1000 and it wouldn't do anything. After applying the update, it would just take me right back to the PSP menu.
It would allow me to play homebrew just fine, but I can't get to the program to play ISO/CSO or rip UMD games to my memcard.
I asked a friend, and he thought it may be my battery. I don't have a Pandora battery, so yeah.
But, I just got a brand new PSP-3000 a few days ago. It shipped with 6.37. I updated it to 6.39.
Apply the Pro b6 and same thing. It reboots the PSP, but comes up with the main PSP menu. Again, it allows me to play the homebrew, but nothing regarding ISO/CSO and ripping games to the memcard.

Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Darque.

You have to create a ISO folder on the root of the mem card and put your ISO/CSO files there.

I am trying to play the cursed psx, Megaman legends 2, its a working copy but the only problem is that there is a block in it that stops when you try to enter the ship using the ladder. Ive read alot of different things on a bunch of different websites and the only way i can find is to switch the psx loader to an older version, does anyone know how to do that?

As of now, perma-patch is only for 6.20. It's posted in their google code site. Yeah, that's what got me into 6.20 pro-b. It's the perma-patch. But hey, the fastrecovery is good also. It just takes seconds to boot it up and you're already homebrew ready.

# isotrex 2011-05-30 01:23
I have a PSP Go 05g also on 6.20 Pro-B5 perma-patch then upgraded to 6.20 Pro-B6 perma-patch. So far, so good. No problems or whatsoever. If you're not confident enough, there's always the fastrecovery method.

(nvm figured out my question on my own)
For those wondering the answers to the questions I had here before:
IDK if you have to be in OFW 6.39 to use 6.39 PRO, but you might as well update.
And you can use the updater instead of the fast recovery, but the fast recovery is a hell of a lot faster.

Yeah they probably were reserving it in case they released more PSP's, but with the NGP coming up, it'd doubtful they'll use those numbers. Unless they feel pity for us hackers and release a 100% already jailbroken/whatever PSP's using those mobo numbers. Doubtful.

Just activate your PSP Go using a computer with your PSN account on the internet.
This is what I do:
-Since 6.2, 6.35,6.9 are not permanent, just run the program and then uninstall
-Plug in the usb
-go to the internet and sign in at the playstation web site
-click on manage account
-click activate
-run the activation program
-PSP GO activated
-go to download history section
-download/transfer your PSN games using the USB
-unplug USB
-try to run PSN games now.  They should work with or without the  CFW.

# annson08 2011-05-30 21:04
if you're already on 6.20 / 6.39 just download the .rar file attached on the post and extract the PROUPDATE on your X:/PSP/GAME folder, then execute it on your psp and you're done. There is also for 6.35 just search it here @ psp-hacks. If your psp is not on the said firmwares, update it first to it then do the steps

yes you can update, just download the 6.39OFW install it on your psp, after that you're HEN ready. just download the 6.39PRO and put it in your X:/PSP/GAME. Execute it on your psp and you're ready to play, it's perfectly safe.

make sure first that the plugins are compatible on your current fw, second on your VSH and/or GAME.txt if the lines should look like this (ef0:/seplugins/xxxxxx 1) notice the first 2 letters?, instead of using ms0, Go users should change it to ef0

hmmmmmm...

you wana kill the old scool 5.50 GEN and 5.00 M33-6 !!!

surely you can't... sins your updates are still unstable, i mean that all new CFW that camed after the GEN-D3 are all of them less stable than the 5.00 m33 and 5.50 GEN and they are a lot so users now are confused with your updates 6.20, PRO, PRO-B 6.30 6.35 6.38 (-ME and i dont know what...!!! ), 6.39 PRO-B and i know that ther will be other names soon....... and they are all in a chort interval of time !!! then they are all not stable like the old CFW

i'm talking about 5.00 m33-6 and 5.50 GEN

I wonder if developers can take on CFW and develop it very well (6.39 PRO-B6 for example) and give updates for it so that we users can all participate in the same work and give feed backs or something like that

sorry if someone didn't understand me
and sorry for my bad english

thanX for all user in this community

best regards...

It is already off, tried switching it on, then off as well. Same result. I am using the UPDATEPRO folder for that OFW. I noticed 2 files that get created with each attempt installer.prx and Rebootex.prx
In each attempt the PSP start loading and then goes blank, the ms would indicate some activity for few seconds then everything freeze with the blank screen still on. Waited like 20 min the used the power button to switch it on and off...
Any advice? Please?

there's no major diff between the two (6.31&6.39) only some syste m software stability during use of features are improved on 6.39. i haven't experienced any crashes on any of my games, i usually use M33 driver. but updating from 6.31 to 6.39, if you accidentally switched off your psp or accidentally shuts down for no reason while updating which is unlikely to happen but still has a chance, you will end up having a bricked psp.

Just upgraded my psp 3003 pcfw from 6.20 pro-b5 to 6.20 pro-b6! And btw, in the middle of doing this, I happened to encounter a "psp format failed 80010011" error. I search everything on the internet to find a solution to the problem but just gave me a bad Memory Stick or MS replacement and try formatting the MS in a PC. First I tried formatting my MS in a PC for a few times but still gets the error. And fortunately, I managed to solved the problem by formatting the MS using NTFS (NOT FAT32).

Problem, I have a cso file to run and I put it in the ISO folder in the root folder of my memory card. However it doesn't show up anywhere in my PSP so I can run it. I tried all three different ISO modes to find it and it just won't show.

Any ideas? I'm using 6.39 PRO B6 on my PSP 3001 4g.

no! there's no root folder, you will put the ISO folder directly on the root of the mem.stick..it should look something like this
(your psp):/ISO/game.cso

Reply

# annson08 2011-06-02 09:39
download the version.txt here http://www.multiupload.com/W3Y... and put it on your seplugins folder located at the root of your memory, download then the 5.03OFW here http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/... and put the EBOOT.PBP to PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP
.
if you're on 6.20-TN, enable the Fake Index.dat on the VSH
.
if you're on PRO, go to recovery menu first via VSH, then on configuration enable the 'use version.txt on /seplugins'
.
restart VSH and execute the 5.03 updater and update, after update, a blue screen of death will appear, just pres circle and you're done.

One question -  what level of compression should I be using for csos? I've just started trying to compress isos to csos. I can choose compression levels from 1 (min compression) to 9 (max compression). Is there a level of compression best for this type of firmware?

Yes it is safe as it is not permanent.

For simplicity, update to 6.39 OFW and then download the "PSP CFW 6.39 PRO-B6" file and then copy the folder "PROUPDATE" to ms0:/PSP/GAME. Once you have copied the folder to your psp, run it on the XMB and there you go!

I am on a phat psp, previously on 5.50 prom4, now OFW 6.39. I cannot seem to get this to work. The updater writes to the Flash0, but then it goes to a black screen and eventually turns off.

I then try to run FastRecovery, and it does the same thing.

Pandora Battery, Magic Memory Stick, OFW 6.39, TA-79 v1.

If I can't solve this, is there another way to access Flash2 without installing another firmware?

Strange thing happening for me. Running a PSP-1000 (japenese PSP), with this firmware. It seems that ISOs are not accounted for when the PSP shows free space. I have a 2gb mem card and it claims that despite having Ikki Tousen and Army of Two in my ISO folder, I have 1400mb free. I would have 1400mb free if I didn't have those games on there.

Anyone else have this bug?

download 6.39OFW and put the eboot.pbp to PSP/GAME/UPDATE/eboot.pbp. after then, execute it on your psp. after the update, download PSP CFW 6.39 PRO-B6 and extract the PROUPDATE to PSP/GAME. after then, execute it on your psp and press 'X' twice.

The reason is most likely due to playing a game that needed to be on a higher FW. When you upgrade, the saves will end up as "corrupted".

Hi All. I haven't used my Psp for about 4 years, so yep, it's really old. I've forgotten just how good piece of kit it is. Anyhow, I've got FW 3.40 OE-A on there (model 1003) with thanks to GTA all those years ago. But I would like to update to the most recent FW if possible. I don't know where to start with updating it to the latest version. Any help would be willingly appreciated.

ANyway, everytime I try, I get this thing that says it won't go on there because of a I/O error. Is it a power thing, or what? It's a ISO file.

For the latest CFW:

1. Update to 6.39 OFW
2. Download the "PSP CFW 6.39 PRO-B6" file and extract.
3. Copy the PROUPDATE folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME
4. Run the application on the XMB and press X when prompted and there you go!
5. Note that this CFW is not permanent and therefore you must run the application again if you fully power off the psp.

1. Download 6.20 CFW PRO-B6
2. Extract 'PROUPDATE' and 'FastRecovery' folder to PSP/GAME folder
3. Execute PROUPDATE on your PSP's XMB
4. Press X when prompted, and X again to return to
    XMB
5. delete 'PROUPDATE'.
(note: every time your PSP is fully shut down for some reason/s, the CFW will be deleted, to return to CFW again just execute FastRecovery)

1. Download 6.20 OFW (you should be able to find an EBOOT.PBP in it)
2. extract the EBOOT.PBP to (your psp)/PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder
3. run the update on your xmb, (read and follow the instructions carefully, this step is risky if you don't)
4. After the update download 6.20 CFW PRO-B6
5. Extract 'PROUPDATE' and 'FastRecovery' folder to (your psp)/PSP/GAME folder
6. Execute PROUPDATE on your PSP's XMB
7. Press X when prompted, and X again to return to XMB
8. delete 'PROUPDATE'.(note: every time your PSP is fully shut down for some reason/s, the CFW will be deleted, to return to CFW again just execute FastRecovery)(d on't delete FastRecovery, it's your way back to CFW)

Sorry. This update does not support your FW (0x03040010).

Which I don't think its co-incidence my current FW is 3.40 OE-A (similar numbers), so I'm guessing I need to do some kind of step upgrade, by upgrading to maybe M33 and then to this?

I have a curious question about this CFW. Does the program actually change any of the firmware, or is it just a program that just stays resident in memory?

Just figured that if the firmware gets partially removed by switching off the PSP, then surely it can't be permanently altering anything on the chip containing the firmware.

Just curious

Cheers for clearing that up :) So it puts extra files in flash0 in order that the exploit you run in user mode will work correctly. If you reboot the PSP, the default files in flash0 are used and the cfw is reverted back to the original ofw. Until you run the exploit (which I assume is something to do with that medal of honor save file which has appeared in my sav files) which re-enables the files added to flash0

Am I right?

I'm just wondering that if i buy one of the newer ones, the PSP 300 Core pack will that be hackable?

Also I was thinking of picking it up from amazon but they are out of stock, so does that mean they will be restocked with the latest firmware?

here's what you need to do
1. Press select in xmb and where it says usb device change it from memory stick to flash 0 connect to computer.
2. Don't touch anything in the usb, just search for the file, version.txt.
3. Open it up and change release number from 9.90 to 5.50 or lower than 6.20 or anything you want your version number to be.
4. Change usb device back to memory stick.
5. Finish!

newer psp have better features, but the first generations of psp like 1000 and 2000non ta-088v3 is safe to hack 'coz we can easily fix it if it got bricked, not like psp's above ta-088v3 version, if you happen to brick it, you're history...however, late psp's can still be hacked with no risk..via CFW which is not permanent, meaning we wont touch anything regarding the files inside your psp..same results with permanent psp, we can play ISO's, homebrews, PSX games, and others..

# annson08 2011-06-09 04:18
partially correct...again..haha, about the extra files, and the reverting back to default files you're right..but the CFW featured in this thread doesn't use savedata for their exploits anymore, instead we will just run the eboots that is included in the download, the PROUPDATE or FastRecovery

Alright cool..

oh yeah something i just thought of, if you or anyone else knows this: when i buy my psp i saw that I'll need to get a memory stick aswell, i searched around and found a Sandisk 16GB M2 Memory Stick Micro with adapter.

Its cheaper than the regular
pro duo by about half the price, i'm just wondering if i should spring for the pro duo or would it really make a difference?

# annson08 2011-06-09 07:56
go for the m2, i think durability is the same, and if it doesn't..that's ok, after all real durability of an item is relative, it can be as durable as a 2000php(45$) memory stick if you take care of it well.

BTW, i didn't knew m2 is much cheaper, it's a good thing pspGo uses m2 rather than a regular pro duo..haha gonna buy one if that's the case, my storage is about to get full.

Make a folder in the root of the memory stick called ISO and put your psp games there.

Movies need to be mounted.
In your ISO folder, make a folder called VIDEO and put your movies there.
Mount the videos on the VSH menu and it should appear in the VIDEO section of your XMB.

but pspGo doesn't support UMD's anymore, signed games are just downloaded from PSN. And another thing, UMD ISO Movies are not formatted to be viewed by a video player, remember it's a "UMD ISO", it has commands that can be executed, in other words it's formatted as a game.

@facebook-589936647:disqus if you happen to have an older psp(1000,2000,3000) mount the umd there and rip it via ISO tool or any other ripper, then put the ripped file on the ISO folder on your pspGo

1. Download 6.20 OFW http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/... (you should be able to find an EBOOT.PBP in it)
2. extract the EBOOT.PBP to (yourPSP)/PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder (if there's no such folder, create one)
3. run the update on your PSP, (read and follow the instructions carefully, this step is risky if you don't)
4. After the update download 6.20 CFW PRO-B6 http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/...
5. Extract 'PROUPDATE' and '620PRO_Permanen t' folder to (yourPSP)/PSP/GAME folder
6. Execute PROUPDATE on your PSP
7. Press X when prompted, and X again to return to XMB
8. Execute '620 PRO-B Permanent Patch'.
9. Press X when prompted, and O to return to XMB.
10. delete 'PROUPDATE' and '6.20PRO_Permanent '
11. enjoy. :)

Yes you can. If you have Promethes version make sure you change the version to 5.50 instead of 9.90.

To do this:
1. Press Select to enter XMB, and change USB Device to Flash 0
2. connect your PSP to your pc and you should have your flash folders displayed. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING IN THIS DIRECTORY!
3.Search for a version file and use notepad to open it. Change 9.90 to 5.50 and save it as it is do not change the file extension.
4. Download the latest 6.39 update and put it into PSP/GAME/UPDATE/
5. Download the 6.39CFW from this post and put it in the same directory but different file name: PSP/GAME/6.39CFW/
6. Put also the FAST RECOVERY feature using the same system as above.
7. Run the 6.39 OFFICIAL firmware and install it
8. After Reboot install 6.39CFW by running the Updater and pressing X
9. There you have the 6.39 PRO B-6 installed :)
10. Run the FAST RECOVERY program every time you turn off your PSP, as when you turn off the PSP you will be rolled back to the Official Firmware. Else you can leave your PSP standby.

If your running lcfw 6.35 Pro-B6 or 6.39 Pro-B6, there are no permanent patch for it, so it'll automatically reset to the ofw after rebooting.

So i suggest going 6.20 Pro-B6,and running the permanent patch. But, the permanent patch is only for 05g and lower.

Or just wait for 6.20/6.39 Pro B-7 to come out with their final release that includes a permanent patch.

It really doesn't matter if your ofw is 6.3X. You can always run a psp down-grader, to downgrade your psp firmware from 6.3X to 6.20.

Which can be found and downloaded on this site.

This is good update but for my PSP - 2006 with TA -088v2, it is still best to use 5.50 GEN D3 or D4 (PRometheus -4). This CFW is stable and can run ALL of the ISo's and CSO's. I have around 146 Games both PSP games and Eboot games or PS1 games...All are working with these to CFW's no need for me to update to any CFW. I tried them before, but there are lots of incompatibiliti es especially PRX's or plugins. Freezing and crashing issues from 6.20,6.35.6.37,6.38 and 6.39 TN, PRO or ME's..These CFW's got lots of inconsistencies . Still the best is GEN CFW world for PSP 200x series...I mean ALL GAMES... for those who have PSP 2000, guys take my word just remain between 5.50 GEN D3 or D4. You won't hve any issues...

No. Use XGEN Installer by Yoshihiro and choose options like 5.50 OFW or 5.50 GEN D3 that 9.90 error will not appear iy you try to update to a higher OFW just use that XGEN installer and update to 5.50 OFW and from there. you can update to any OFW like 6.20,6.31,6.35,6.37,6.38 and 6.39 OFW's it is up to you now. I tried those already and it worked. or just upgrade to GEN D3 or D4. Take note GEN is still the best of all CFW's, can run all games. I tell you...

# nathan1234 2011-06-14 01:37
Yes, that is ok but for your PSP 300x, it is still best to use 5.03 or 5.50 GEN C. My brother is on that GEN CFW and run ALL ISO and CSO GAMES...Well, the difference between 6.37 and 6.39 not much but 6.37 does not have TN_HEN for you to use ISO loader etc. just update if you'd like, update to 6.20 OFW and use TN-HEN and use iso loaders or Prometheus loaders or aloader for 6.20 OFW.

You Can Update it to 6.39 And install 6.39 pro b 7 its permanent and u can run all iso and cso in it even the latest ones (naruto shippuden kizuna drive, Patapon 3) because it has the inferno driver which is the best driver

Hello
I've already hacked my psp 3000 with pro b6 and I've been using it with no problems but recently I tried using the recovery tool to no effect, I tried fully re installing and even just plain installing from the probupdate file and nothing. I did a hard and soft reset then preformed both a recovery and probupdate install and after that failed reinstall and uninstall...then a probupdate and recovery after a soft and hard reset after the uninstall....am I confusing you cause I'm confused too as to why it seems like my psp just won't be hacked anymore after I've been playing on it hacked for awhile

Hello, I have a PSP 3000 with OFW 6.20.
I downloaded and extracted the 6.20 PRO-B6 file and placed the PROUPDATE and the FastRecovery file in the PSP/GAME folder.
I then opened PROUPDATE file from the XMB after which the screen goes and stays completely black.
Only after I shut down my PSP and restart it I am able to regain regular function, but the firmware has not been customized.
Does anybody have any idea why it stays stuck on a black screen because I am following the standard procedure.
Thanks for any advice.

Reply to Astral_Element...

try to restor factory settings, if it still doesn't work, you might have a 07/09g psp, update first to 6.35 or 6.39 then use their respective CFW. That should work.

1. Update to 6.39 OFW
2. Download the "PSP CFW 6.39 PRO-B6" file and extract.
3. Copy the PROUPDATE folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME4.Run 6.20 PRO-B6 Permanent patch Then Press X and then press O instead of X now u have Permanent CFW U can Fully shut down your PSP

Update to 6.39 OFW. Then download the latest CFW that you want: either 6.39 PRO-B7, 6.39 ME-6, or 6.39 TN-A (it will depend on your type of PSP). Currently, those are the latest CFWs out there.

I have downloaded 3 ISO games, created an ISO folder at the X:/PSP/Game level, and uploaded the files - but, the XMB Game-MemStick fails to recognize. I have moved the ISO folder to each level with no luck. What have I missed?

Will PRO-B7 allow the use of ISO and CSO files without using any other diversion code? The mobo and rev ("g" level) must make some difference - without breaking the box, which PC utility can provide that info? Sorry 2B such an empty bag on this

OK. CONNECT YOUR PSP TO YOUR PC... ONCE YOU SEE ALL FILES... CREATE YOUR OWN FOLDER. SO ON YOUR PC, "MAKE NEW FOLDER" NAME IT "ISO"... THAT SIMPLE. YOU MUST MAKE IT ALL IN CAPS!!! OR IT WILL NOT WORK!!! THEN DRAG ALL ISO FILES THERE. SHOULD WORK 100%

I using 6.39 OFW and 6.39 PRO-b6 CFW in PSP 3001. Yes it is not an perm. patch. But it is not so difficult to go to the CFW.

If you are going to be with your psp often, you can put it into sleep, i.e. not completely shutting down. By that the cfw stays on. If you shut it down completly, then it will load your OFW. But any way you can get back by accessing the Fast Recovery file.

It is till now working in fine condition. So guys, you can go ahead and install it.
