PSP Custom Firmware 6.20/6.35 PRO-B4 Released

Put your hands together for Liquidzigong and Coldbird's PSP Custom Firmware 6.35 PRO-B4! And not only that: 6.20 PRO-B4, which lets you permanently patch said CFW into flash memory. The perma-patch is only 6.20 -- 6.35 does not allow for that. But then again you can always downgrade 6.35 to 6.20 if you prefer permanence (and if your PSP isn't a 9g). Serious changes have been packed into PRO-B4 and the change log below details all that. Need help installing CFW PRO? There are tutorials here and here. Perma-patch information

Pressing R while booting loads the recovery.
Pressing Select while booting loads OFW.
When applying the Permanent Patch, choose X on first question and O on second to install, two times X only tests whether your device is compatible with our Permanent Bootloader.
Should you manage to brick yourself, try pressing ?O+X+Select+Start while turning your PSP on. It will trigger a emergency uninstall.

Compatibility

6.20 works for 1g, 2g, 3g, 4g and 5g models.
6.35 works on all models up to 9g.

One question. I have a PSP-3004, and I've been running PRO-B3 and it's been amazing. I just updated to PRO-B4 (6.35).

ALL of the games I have used to work just fine with PRO-B3 (and I suppose they'll be working for PRO-B4 too), including many of the games that wouldn't work for other guys (including Monster Hunter 3 and Tenkaichi Tag Team) without any patches.

Now, if I install the permanent 6.20 version will I still be able to play those games that require a higher version?

Owners of unhackable 3000's had to wait for more than one and a half year for a hack to be released. I was one of them, my PSP would just collect dust for one whole year. But I refused to sell it. I knew there would be a hack, someday. I guess you know what that means.

Yes! Same with me; I got the R&C bundle just when it came out. It just sat in my closet ever since, and it still had OFW 5.03 when I dug it up. Patience is a virtue - it pays off.

No one can say 4 sure till someone trys it, but why downgrade, downgrading is always a risk business but do wat u want, getting a permanent cfw is not worth the chance of having a useless psp(brick or semi-brick or glitchly). Srry if i discourage u but i wanted the perm patch so i downgrade from 6.35 to 6.20 and psp glitch up and luckily i had a pandora battery at hand (psp 2001 v1) and it fix wat ever issue it was. (im on 6.35 PRO B4)

hmm 5.50 doesn't really get any support these days seeing from some of these posts. I'd Say you best update to 6.20 if you have a psp 2001 - 3001
or 6.35 if you have a psp 1000

it depends what fw youre on 6.37 can't be downgraded because the kernel exploit was patched but if you're not in 6.37 and on 6.35 - 6.20 then yes it can.

here's the thing in 5.50CustomHEN a prx (Plugin) is needed to play games that have a higher version(firm) but there are not many games that do require this because not many games are coming out that require 6.37 or 6.35 but that's not the point games can be flashed or/edited to play on different FIRMS so if it does happen i bet a prx is coming

Actually, if you have a 2001 (not TA-088v3) then your best bet is probably 6.35 Custom. Full Permanent cfw. There's also 6.37 ME, but I've had trouble using some games (Kingdom Hearts) with that.

i think that 6.35 pro-b4 is better cause u can load isos staright from the xmb with inferno driver which gives very good compatibilty but 6.20 has a permanent patch so it flashes your psp if u want so and it has more plugins but i think some of them are compatible with 6.35 pro-b4 too (Added 6.20 Type 2 PRX Permanent Bootloader)

After running the pro b4 update my psp will flash to flash0 then it will ask me to press x to reboot but my psp just shuts down and when i turn it on it is on ofw 6.20. any ideas on how to fix this? My psps is a psp 3001. pspident doesn't say anything about it's version strangely but I bought it as soon as the 3000 became available

I hear that about the Perma Patch all the time. You do know 6.35proB installs to flash0, right? Honestly I am going to try the 6.20ProB4(Perma), but I'm 10X more nervous than I was with TN-D(Perma). The perma patch modifies one file, which is backed up & restorable in case of emergency. When using 6.20/6.35 ProB4 quite a few files are put on flash0. Don't get me wrong, if it works right, that's fine by me. I just find it odd that people act like the Perma patch is some horrible risk, when ProB puts 10 times as many files in Flash0. I've done and undone the perma patch more than ten times now, but the only brick I've ever had was when I uninstalled 6.35ProB3 on my Slim2g.

It refers to mobo revision. Like for instance I have a 3000-3g (V3mobo). It's good to know say for instance trying to downgrade a 3000-6g to 6.20 might brick you since it isn't designed to run that firmware.

Enter recovery menu (right trigger on cold boot) & disable "Use Version.txt", you should be able to update. If that doesn't work Toggle USB on VSH menu to Flash0, hook to computer with usb, open VSH/etc/, replace version.txt(9.90) with version.txt from any 5.xx firmware. You can update after that for sure.

Yeah, files get too fragmented causing problems. The 6.20ProB4 Tutorial link in the description says to run fast recovery after reboot.

Yeah, I was hoping for video mount & fast scroll as well. Still the 6.20ProB4(Perma) is loading most of my 6.20TN-D plugins and hasn't failed to load a single iso. There is at least one of my 6.20TN-D plug-ins that causes it to crash in the XMB & upon game exit. When I figure out which one it is, I'll post so everybody can avoid it.

One other question... Why does everyone seem to think that you need Debug-type 1/2 region to get on PSN? I played a while yesterday and looked through the store on the default region (America for me).

EDIT: I just ran the downgrader and it froze and my PSP Shut down.

I did an upgrade from my 5.50 Prometheus-4. A lot of problems with plugins - most of the old ones don't work, but there are new made for 6.20 or 6.35, so it's not a problem. But I can't use an cxmb or I cannot install it. Do you guys have it working properly?

as far as ive observed, reset device and reset vsh were like the same, they reboot the unit. and then there were some problem when changing the wallpaper then putting it on sleep(ctf is turned on), but i think its a prob with the ctf.

works on OUR psp 3004 and psp 2006 with v3 mobo. were from 5.03 Prom 4 anyway…

I have found a version suitable to 6.35 Pro-B4 but it wasn't working. A lot of people has the same problem. But Someone uploaded working version. And, as I see, ctf themes lag a little.

hey, so i wanted to ask. i have a psp1001 using prome-4. it seems to run everything i want which is mainly psp games, not homebrew/ps1/emulators. would you upgrade to one of these newer cfw right this minute, or would you use the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' theroy and stay with prome-4 until a new game comes out that requires this (if any good new games will even come, doesnt seem like it).

This is what I have done with my PSPs. I have tested a lot of things, so I will answer any questions I can, so please ask. I have a PSP-1000 and I stayed with CFW 5.03 Prom 4. On my PSP-3000 brite I have installed 6.20 PRO-B4 PERMA, and it works great. On my PSPgo 6.20 PRO-B4 PERMA seems to be a little buggy, but 6.35 PRO-B4 is fantastic. Again ask any questions you have (related to the PSP, I can't help with the burning you feel when you pee) and I will try my best to answer them, or find you a possible solution.

I have noticed that it doesn't seem to work with any of the CFWs. Even on my 5.03 Prom4 it works sometimes. I have made a backup of my UMD and when it was copying I notice the drive making really strange sounds like it was struggling to read part of the UMD. I borrowed a friends, and the same thing happened. I believe that is the part of the UMD that contains SOTN, and for some reason umddumps, iso tool, etc can not properly copy it. So I gave up, backed up my PS1 SOTN and play that instead. Hope that helps, and good luck.

usb charge is a hardware thing. the 1000 model lacks the wire for it to charge the psp. you can turn it on via options on your xmb.

i was on 5.50 prome 4, downgraded to 5.50 gen, installed ofw 5.50, upgraded to 6.20, installed the 6.20 pro-b4, and when it said it was restarting, it shut off. I turned it back on and tried to do the 6.20 pro-b4 pp, but it tells me there is an error and can't use it. did i do something wrong? i followed the instructions like i shouldve on the tutorial for it. everytime i try to install pro-b4, it just shuts off instead of rebooting. please help.....btw i have a psp 1000.....nevermind....one of the plugins was causing an issue....all good to go and everything works great.

Neither of those statements are factual or really make any sense. 6.37me is for PSP-2000 ONLY. If I am not mistaken, 6.37me is based off Dark Alex's m33, not a kernal exploit. That might be why it's development is so incremental. I don't know for sure, but I'm sure it would go much easier if Neuron had a kernal exploit to work with. Who knows, with a kernal exploit, it might even be able to be adapted to the 3000. I don't know, I'm not a Dev.
If you download the 6.20ProB4 right on this page, you should read the credits where it thanks T.N. for developing the kernal exploit used here. "We" use the sony keys to sign the eboots for the firmware to load. The firmware itself isn't signed, that doesn't really even make sense.
Think about this, when you install windows(PSP-CFW) you need a activation code for windows to allow the installer to run (Sony Keys). Now if your mobo bios(kernal exploit info) is wrong or outdated, it isn't gonna run right, if it runs at all. I can't explain it better than that, I'm not a dev. I never got into programming, I'm a hardware kind of guy, lol. If you take the time to look though, you do get a decent understanding of how it works.
The Dev's work hard to discover and utilize the kernel exploits, develop our CFW, plug-ins, & such. It is appreciated guys!

I would go ahead but use Recovery Flasher to backup your flash first. You can CFW jump back & forth with Recovery Flasher1.65 all you want. I use 5.00Prm-4 on my slim2g, but I jump to a backed-up 6.20TN-D(Perma) to test anything before I put it on my daughters Brite3g. I've done it with 5.50GenD3/Prome-4 a few times too. Never had any problems from it.
That said, I would keep a pandora on standby. You never know what can happen. I've cfw jumped like that with Recovery Flasher probably thirty or more times with no problems. When I tried out 6.35ProB3 though, I went to uninstall normally and it rebooted me to a brick. I doubt it was any problem with the ProB3, probably just a random flash error, but better safe than sorry.

I don't see why you would need to, but you could always use the savegamedeemer plug-in to "buffer" the savedata into the new firmware. I use 5.00m33 & my game saves work just fine on 6.20TN-D/ProB4 & 6.35Pro.

Heh, I thought about that too, lol. I figured somebody has to try, so I did & it doesn't work. I booted into the OFW by pressing SELECT and ran the TN-D installer. The TN-D installer reboots the PSP and even if you hold SELECT while it's rebooting it just goes back to OFW.

I switched over to the 6.20Pro-B4(Perma) & aside from maybe 3 of my 20 or so plug-ins making it freeze & crash, I don't see a lot of difference.
The highmemorymod, sysconfigspoofe r, & I think the pegasus plug-in for isotool makes the system freeze & crash in xmb system settings & when exiting some homebrew. Seplugins manager & isotool are the only ones I've noticed that crash so far. I gotta say though, that is some pretty good compatibility for a cfw to be a day old, lol. The popsloading is better in ProB4 and you don't have to run the installer again after a cold boot to re-enable popsloading like you do with TN-D(Perma). I can't get too into the isoloading compatibility, cause I only tried about 10-15 iso/cso's. I will say that with all plug-ins disabled except for cxmb and gamecategoriesl ite, the inferno iso driver does NOT load as quickly as the aloader v1.25 plug-in. It's not a big difference, but I did notice. With aloader my iso's were loaded instantly where I wouldn't even see the aloader screen & with cso's it would take about 2 seconds for the aloader screen to load & it would stay up for another 2 seconds. Basically less than the sony boot screen for cso & no load time at all with iso. With the inferno iso driver it takes a iso 4 to 5 seconds just to load up. A 101MB Sonic Rivals cso with no update data took 6-9 seconds to load. Like I said, not too slow but you do notice aloader is gone. That's just the load time though. Once loaded equal speed in play. If this isn't typical, I would love somebody to tell me how I can speed that up a little. Anyway, I'll probably stay with the ProB4(Perma), at least till I know how good the plug-in support is.
If all you want is a recovery menu, stay on On TN-D(Perma) & use seplugins manager 1.3x. It is a must have for TN-D(Perma). If you want better pops loading with a improved m33/GenD style recovery menu, but don't mind losing the speed of aloader, move over to ProB4.

This new Inferno driver has MUCH more compatability than the prometheus iso loader in tn-d. Truly i did like TN but PRO-B4 just kills it. Every game ive tested works with the inferno driver, including ones that did not work on TN. Lumines I, wipeout, and ghost of sparta just to name a few. Good Luck and happy hacking :)

I am at crossroads between 6.20 TN-D and 6.20 PRO-B4 because PRO has better ISO software but TN-D has better homebrew software. I wish they could work together to make the ultimate CFW but that would have to happen after the competition now wouldn't it? I can wait but making an ultimate CFW is impressive sounding right? i'v played the 1st one on it with 6.35 pro-B3 it took 10 min to load up it only showed a black screen the first time i played it. Start it up then leave it for 10 mins then it should work if not then it is your copy

Guys If you have a PSP2000 with a stable version you better stick with 5.50 prom-4 because it supports the games that this updates does

i've tried updating my psp to 6.35 pro b-4 and guess what? it was hell? this 6.35 b4 is only for psp with HEN not for the stable ones

it took me almost a day to downgrade from 6.35 back to 5.50 prom-4.....

Well you get the savegamedeemer plugin and enable it. Load your game and save, doesn't matter where, you just need it to create a unencrypted save. I would do it to all the save you want to convert, then change to your 6.35 cfw. Make sure plug-in is enabled and load your game. It will load your unencrypted save. Now save again & you will also have a normal save from the 6.35cfw. I've never had to do it between cfw's but I do it to change the region of game saves sometimes.

Only thing keeping me on GEN-D3 and I looked through the source code but don't have the PSP SDK installed anymore so I don't know why it doesn't work on newer custom firmwares just from looking at it. Hi, I'm checking with you to be sure on how I'd find what module version my PSP 3000 has:
If it has 6.35 OFW, I will need to use the temporary 6.35 PRO-B4 CFW to enable me to load PSP Module checker?
Then I can check what module I have, and if it is not a g09, I can use Davee's signed 6.31/6.35 to 6.20 OFW downgrader to downgrade to 6.20 OFW, and then install 6.20 PRO-B4 CFW permanently?

Steps to perma patch 6.20 PRO-B4:

1. Copy the 3 files inside "620PRO_B4.rar" namely "620PRO_Permanen t","FastRecovery" & "PROUPDATE" to ms0:/PSP/GAME/

2. Be sure to have 6.20 OFW and if you recently installed old version of PRO from A-B3 uninstall it first using the PRO-B4 UPDATE installer then restart.

**If its a fresh installed 6.20 OFW then you not need to uninstall anything.

3. After restart/ have a fresh 6.20 OFW run the PRO-B4 UPDATE located at the GAME section of the XMB menu,just follow/read instructions to install then it will restart.

4. Go to the GAME section of the XMB menu again then run FAST RECOVERY to go to PRO-B4 mode and in PRO-B4 mode run "620PRO_Permanen t", just follow/read instructions.

**There are 2 choices "TEST RUN" by pressing X or "continue to install" by pressing O. Its highly suggested to "TEST RUN" it first and if its successfull restart PSP by fully shutting it down first and turn it on again, rerun "FAST RECOVERY", rerun "620PRO_Permanen t" follow/read instructions and instead of pressing X to "TEST RUN" press O to install, and wait till it restarts.

NOTE: DISABLE ALL PLUGINS IF YOU HAVE BEFORE INSTALLATION...

BAMM!!! Success.... But try at your own risk....

Alright, awesome, I got 6.35 PRO B4 CFW installed.
I notice that if I leave the PSP turned off for too long, I need to reinstall the CFW.

The recovery eboot is for loading the cfw faster after shutting off your psp. It loading about 10 secs faster than re-running the pro installer. You could use davee's downgrader to go back to 6.20 pro and install the permanent patch. Then you would never have to run the hen anymore.

I have never used that downgrader. I would stick with your old firmware for now. Honestly you are not missing anything. Except the inferno iso driver, but that's not worth an upgrade. I have not messed with the psp 2000 (I have a 1000 3000 and go) that much. If it supports it I would get a pandora battery first.

I do not remember if I responded to your question, so I will again. I would not upgrade to 6.35 pro unless you have a pandora battery ready to go. There is nothing wrong with the new cfw, but there may be things about it you may not like. Plugin support is not as good. You can always stay on 5.50, and get plugins that enable 6.xx games. Personally I would downgrade to 5 prom 4. That is what I use on my psp 1000, and I have no problems.

ohhh my god i had bricked my psp
i had a psp-3004 and i used psp-3004 6.20
i used pro b4 on my 6.20 with permanent patch.
it ran well but i decided to go back to 6.20tn hen d coz my games were running very slow on it.
so i uninstalled the patch but it freeez and crashed.

Also try turning it on while holding (square + triangle, select + start) hold those buttons for a few seconds, after you let go of the buttons it boots a little slower but that should format your flash.

I´ve got a PSP 3004 8D with original Firmware 5.03.So my question is, is this the right thing for me and how do I use it?I want to: - Enabel Custom Programs (PDF Viewer,Comic Reader, etc.)- Use Emulators like SNES9x and others for classic games- Play my old PSX/PSone games- Play my "saved" ISOS
So is this a permanent hack without the risk to "brick" the psp?

I´m very afraid of bricking my psp and a detailed description would help alot!

If you want to upgrade I would use 6.20 tn-e. It is not permanent and won't brick your psp. It also seems to have the best plugin support. And most of the features, plugins etc can be changed within the xmb. I have not found any psp isos, psx, or psn including mini that don't work. Except those the never worked like brave frencer. Just install 6.20 ofw, download the hen and run it. I wouldn't get the pro permanent it's buggy at times. But in all honesty I don't see a real reason to leave 5.03 if you like it.

Ok so I´ve updated my FW to 6.20 and than used the CFW 6.20 tn Hen

It works fine so far I think but it´s not permanent. Well thats not such a big problem because the installation of the hen takes only 2sec or so.

The real problem is that it wont recognize any ISOs. Am I´m doing something wrong?

- it reads my PSX games (breath of fire 4)
- it wont recognize/ even show ISO/CSO files
- snes9x starts but a error message appears

I was wondering if I maybe should use the 6.20 pro-b5 but I read if my psp is 9g there would be problems.

What is 9g? I ran PSPident, but there is nothing about 9g or anything similar.

Any idea?

Hello guys i need some help my PSP-3000 with PRO B-4 suddenly can't read my games but the saved data utilities are still there this happened when my friend played Rock Band Unplugged on UMD. When he closed the program and went to memory stick my PSP can't read my games.
