JoySens v1.5 Released: Analog Stick Sensitivity Plugin

Submitted by greg; January 01, 2010

One year in the making and our first post of 2010: Raphael's JoySens version 1.5. A screen capture wouldn't justify this type of plugin... So it's good ol' fashion book reading for you -- no pictures, no video -- imagination. Check the JoySens v1.5 feature list:
  • It changes the axial mapping to a cubic (or other selected) form so that small movements don't get recognized too early. This means that you can move cursors more exactly and don't have it jumping around on the screen. Also, this greatly reduces and fixes the 'ghosting' of a faulty analog stick.
  • It applies a sensitivity scale to linearly change the responsiveness (and maximal amplitude for values < 100%) of the stick. With this you can 'slow down' the analog stick.
  • It filters movement of the analog stick so that abrupt changes are further smoothed (adjustable).
  • It is possible to calibrate the analog stick so it centers properly.
  • It is possible to rescale the analog stick so it returns correct ranged values (when analog doesn't work in one or two directions any more).
  • It allows to remap the DPad or round buttons to the analog, so you can play games that require analog input with a broken stick.
  • It allows to remap the analog to DPad or round buttons, so you can for example control the XMB with the analog.
  • It allows to swap analog and DPad or round buttons, so you can easily change control of your games from analog to DPad (or round buttons) while still having DPad (round buttons) input.
JoySens v1.5:
  • code cleanup
  • added possibility to choose only from a selected list of remapmodes (ie only switch between your favorite modes) per game/vsh
  • fixed that adjust=0 will turn off the analog
  • added LITE version, that does not support config file saving, no ingame info output as well as no ingame config settings with buttons
  • added threshold config parameter, to adjust button remapping from analog
  • added thresholdupbtn and thresholddownbtn config parameters, to set buttons for setting the threshold ingame
  • added idlestop and idleback config parameters, to set when the analog movement stops the idle timer or returns back from idle (brightness dimming/display off feature of PSP firmware).
  • optimized config file reading a bit
  • updated FAQ

Now, I have a psp phat with the analog stick working fine up and left and it only goes like 5% power right and down.

Could I get some advice on either using this to fix it, or possibly taking my psp apart?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I advise to open up your psp and cleaning the dust out with some nice compressed air make sure the leads of the analoug stick are touching the leads on the psp mobo correctly. After that, use this plugin to make things a little smoother. If it still does not work; Buy one from dealextreme.com or focalprice cheap and replace it. Sometimes they can't be fixed so be prepared to dish out the $15 for a new one.

if u take the psp apart there will be a squarish mechanism skrewed in un skrew it take of the thin circuit board there should be some plastic rectangles with small holes in them make sure that the short black stick is catching the the rectangles if it is then it isnt the same problem i had

So, this only acts as a joystick for video games? Or can I control my PC's mouse with this?

Thanks in advance guys!

This si to remap your psp analog stick, it means that you can adjust the sensivity of your analog on your psp. Not on a controller or a pc mouse.

MacroFire has a lot more functionality, IMO.

Nice update! I've been using this for almost two years now, and it's very good. It's also lighter than macrofire and does things that macrofire can't. I used it on a friend's PSP too, to make the faulty JoyPad work like new ;-) (Well almost, but it did a great job!)

If you are worried for some reason, just try it and you'll see! After all it's just a plugin, if you don't like it, delete it and you are done ;-)

in my opinion Joysens is much better. it has more options pertaining to the analouge stick than macrofire.

Yeah, I like JoySens better. I used this a long time ago on my PSP Phat when I was having problems (it fixed them up great). Might have to start using it on my slim soon...

One of the things I like about reading websites like this, is that there aren’t any spelling or grammatical errors! Makes it tough on the visitor sometimes. Fantastic job on that and also the subject of this blog. Cheers, Mate!
