Half Byte Loader Released for PSP Game Demo Minna no Sukkiri

Jeerum has released a user-mode exploit for the demo of Minna no Sukkiri. And with said exploit comes another HBL port by Some1 and JJS. Together, the exploit and HBL are working on PSP firmware 6.35, which in itself is good news because you're no longer reliant on whatever version of Hot Shots Golf, not to mention the Hot Shots Golf exploit was patched in 6.35. However, with Jeerum's release comes a little scene drama.

I had written a long explanation on how stupid this ~~leak~~ release was, but then realized that such drama is mostly useless. Lets just say that Sony will patch both the Hen and this exploit in their next firmware, while everybody already knew that TN had been working on something on 6.35 involving a VSH exploit. Well, at least he wont have to waste this one… Thumbs down to Jeerum for releasing this now. Man, had you waited a few weeks after Sonys next firmware, youd have been in a much better position.

Oh well... It is what it is... What can ya do? In the meantime, if you haven't upgraded past firmware 6.20, I suggest you stay that way -- TN should be releasing his homebrew enabler (HEN) real soon. No, this exploit is user-mode. That means it has no kernel access, which is necessary for custom firmwares. At best, this simply enables homebrew on 6.35 firmwares. At worst, it apparently shatters the work that TN is putting into his own 6.35 surprise.

Bad form Jeerum... I guess good for you for plugging away at it and trying to help the scene, but I just hope this doesn't turn out to be as bad a thing as Wololo is making it out to be.

Truth is it would have been better to say they had a exploit for it and held onto it til after the firmware update because now sony has the chance to look it over and patch it up not only cause more for wololo and the team more hassle but slowing down the cfw. Not only that it buys time and allows sony to embed a code into the firmware and the games for the 30-60 day shelf life garantee that exploit could have been saved as a trump card for those who already updated past 6.20 and just realized thier mistake i'm not interested in isos but cfw is a must have simply for ds3 to psp connection. Yea, i told santa i wanted a cfw for christmas!!!!

NO! That's not possible with this exploit. That's EXACTLY what I was pointing out. It doesn't matter whether someone develops some sort HEN OR a CFW for this. Since this exploit is user-mode only, there is no possibility of a custom firmware ever being made for THIS specific exploit. If the exploit doesn't have kernel access, then it cannot access or overwrite flash0. If flash0 can't be overwritten, then a cfw cannot be implemented. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION. This particular exploit will NEVER spawn a CFW.

That's exactly why Total_Noob's exploit is such a big deal. It utilizes an exploit that has kernel access, and THAT my friend, opens the door for cfw and HENs and such. This one isn't like that, so stop suggesting that "maybe someday a CFW will come out for this." It won't.

No one is sure yet. As of now, no. But the idea is that it will be possible once Total_Noob releases his exploit. But to put it quite plainly -- NO. You cannot downgrade your firmware yet, and you certainly won't be able to do it with this exploit.

the sooner TN uses his XMB exploit the better imo, without a quick start from the XMB chick HEN already has an advantage over this (for the time being)

Works perfect on my PSP 3004 with 6.31... just copy the files to the PSP, go ingame and at the main menu press O and it will automaticly load the loader... thanks you for this... my first chance of gettting anything unoficcial onto my PSP. Damn i'm glad I didn't update my PSP :)

Here's my take on this "dilemma", This new Minna no Sukkiri Demo was ALSO produced by "CLAP HANZ" *the ones who made the GOLF GAMES...and was ALSO a GAMESAVE exploit. It is possible that Sony would have figured that out soon enough anyway :)

Honestly PSP-Hacks and any other site should take this down, just to lower the chances itll be patched (even if its slim) and to kinda smack Jeerum in the face. Then reupload it after a psp update is released patched or not

@jose at the root of your memory stick where video picture are dont put it in any folder just drag it there i cant wait till the new firmware come out and patched these exploits but to tell you the truth i may self is playing hombrew on my psp go cant let anyone know because i may get in trouble.

From what I can gather, this news has very little effect, in terms of actually affecting those who are going to wait for TN's exploit and NOT update. It seems to me that TN will still release his exploit and we will all still be able to utilize it.

That being said, the reason that TN and Wololo are upset at Jeerum for releasing this is that this exploit utilizes a security hole that is either very similar to or identical to TN's vulnerability. That means that once Sony gets their hands on THIS exploit, they will release a brand new firmware (6.40? .50?) with that vulnerability patched. That means that when TN's exploit is finally released, there will be (as there ALWAYS is) a grip load of people who update and can't utilize TN's exploit as a result.

Essentially (and this is just my guess, so I may be incorrect) I think TN and Wololo are just upset because their vision was to release their exploit that would be able to enable homebrew on ANY and ALL current firmwares. Jeerum releasing this exploit early may have compromised that possibility though.

make sure you open the sae data and look if a next folder is in it if you see a next folder drag that in save data

Returned my PSP to OFW 6.35 to test this, it loaded up like the regular HBL would, but didn't load any homebrew. Kept giving me some 'cannot find load\start' type error. Was trying to test it because my cuz has been wanting to use gPSP on his 3000.

@CoonHunter its still in developement most hombrew cant work on it but i know that gameboy advance emulator/gpsp is working on it and some others remember its at its early ages wololo and the other developers will be working on it to improve it.

If you ask me, a whole avenue of exploitation is being ignored. Right now, various Apple i-tems are being hacked via browser exploits. Sony's got their own personal browser they have, which is amateur enough that I'd think plenty of exploits, kernal level and otherwise, should be discoverable in it. Even if Sony's browser is secure, it still uses the Flash plugin, which is gaining notoriety for it's exploitability. I believe the scene would benefit from people trying to attack these vectors. I mean, distributing it would be as simple as visiting a web page if it was pulled off right.

One other thing, this would, ideally, lead to hacked firmware in a similar form to what the iOS is being hacked with, that is, I'd like to see the phrase "jailbreak" enter the PSP scene.

It's so annoying how immature these pre-releasing hackers like Jeerum are. This thing keeps happening again and again and is the reason Dark Alex left the scene. The community needs to make them feel bad enough that they stop messing up other people's hard work. Jeerum deserves all of our scorn.

Is the VSH exploit inferior to a save exploit? Since this save exploit has been released, won't it mean the VSH will still be good for 6.36? Or are you guys sure they already patched this too?

@jose Try deleting your UCJS10094 folder from SAVEDATA and extracting the hbl archive again into the root of your mem stick. I had a similar problem to you, turned out my problem was using the save data from the demo archive not the one from the hbl archive

I like the names CFW - HBL -HEN .... I personally would NOT like to hear the exploits and HACKS to the PSP called "JAILBREAKS".... I'm already SICK of hearing that word for the iphone,ps3,and android products and the many other items that have had there security compromised :) Let's KEEP the PSP scene "seperate" to these other GENERIC CLONES :) I've heard CFW for the PSP for years, and that's cool ---- only a few months of the word "jailbreak" and I'm ready to JUMP!!
