Half Byte Loader R109 Released

Submitted by greg; November 21, 2010

To the right, recently added downloads, you'll find Half Byte Loader R109 -- the whole lot of 'em. Wololo mentions JJS has fixed an issue with gpSP (the Game Boy Advance emulator) returning to the HBL menu. Also, anyone with the non-greatest hits version of Hot Shots golf, you too can now participate in the homebrew fun, not to mention 6.20 TN-A when it arrives. Use the "hbl-r109-hotshotsalt-wololo.zip" archive in the Hot Shots Golf download. Otherwise download the version that applies to your situation and enjoy.

Are the gpSP and non-greatest hits version of Hot Shots golf fixes the only improvements made?

Your welcome for the non-greatest hits exploit. It was my eboot file that helped JJS do this.

Why was there a need to use the UMD games anyhow being that you could just use the patapon exploit?

Brad the patapon 2 demo only loads hbl on firmware 5.30-6.20. So people who have firmwares above 6.20 are screwed so they need to use hot shot golf etc in order to load hbl. Hope this has answered your question.

@Unknown

No those are not the only improvements. In fact, between R107-109 there are just too many improvements to compatibility for me to list. Just read the official changelogs and check the testing forums.

Here are some examples of homebrews that work or are improved:

EmuMaster: Exits back to HBL now
GPSP: Exits back to HBL now
Defense Station Portable: Works
Kurok: Works
So on...

One problem, gPSP does indeed exit to the HBL, but for some reason, when I start gPSP or any other homebrew in the same HBL 'session' thereafter, that homebew will just crash and go back to HBL.

The only 'solution' I found was rebooting HBL, and gPSP and everything will be fine again. Someone got any thoughts and/or solutions?

@Slzy I see what you mean, I tried to use the GBA emulator exiting a second time, cause' I couldn't believe my eyes... But as I'm typing this, it's just frozen with its loading bar...

Anyways, this is better than before! Just can't wait till' Wololo starts working on the Daedalus emulator, cuz' it barely works on my PSP... It'd have to be my favorite emulator if it were working full speed. And I STILL want a PS1 emulator for the PSP... XD

Any progress is good, indeed. I'm mainly using the GBA emulator to play Mother3/Earthbound2 translation, so I don't usually switch homebrew when I'm playing that. The exit feature could be handy though. About Daedalus, in recent builds I were able to play SM64 with sound at an average, yet playable speed. So whether they actually improve with Daedalus in mind or not, it appears to to be progressing! And as always, keep up the good work guys! ;)

Thanks for being diplomatic when answering. Secondly, I forgot about that. I did read that now that you mention it.

For me, Gpsp just crashes as soon as I tell it to load a rom. It just hangs on the loading screen for a bit, then the psp cuts off. I'm using a pspgo with Hotshots Golf on 6.31 firmware with the latest version of Gpsp, if anyone has any advice. Thank you in advance!

Hey guys just wanted to ask if there's a better gpSP-HBL out there. I'm currently on 3.2 user test 02. Thanks in advance.

Will 6.20TN-A be just be a CFW Extender such as; CFWEnabler, GEN-A for Official Firmware?

If that is so, can they work on the Pre-IPL process to maybe hack the whole PSP line-up with a fully functional boot-up CFW (Without the need to enter in a Hen environment first after a cold shutdown).

That's really the only thing that's stopping CFW from being ported to 88v3's/3k's. I bet it's the same on the PSPGo as well during start up.

You meant PSP right? I also made the same mistake, believing that emulation would work regardless of the update. I am now regretting that decision, and would also like to know if its possible to downgrade?

i was just wondering if someone knows the extent of the homebrews that work on hbl rev. 109. sorry if this is a stupid question, but i have ofw 6.35 on my psp and this is the first hbl or really anything i've used on it, so far i've only got gpsp to work.
