Half Byte Loader (BETA/SVN) Compiled Just For You

First, I want to give props to m0skit0, Wololo, ab5000, and n00b81 for their work on what you're about to download... Half Byte Loader BETA. Also thanks to MaX_SLayeR who compiled this, for you, from the Half Byte Loader SVN. But don't get too excited: only small homebrew works, other homebrew, like emulators, or LUA-powered 'brew, do not work, not yet anyway. If you want to stay bleeding edge, you're welcome to download the source and compile it yourself; check the source link.

So just extract the HBL archive to your memory stick root, copy the homebrew's EBOOT.PBP (sample included) to the root, start the Patapon 2 demo as normal, then load the hacked save. It'll either a) load the homebrew, or b) crash. In most cases the latter. That's my experience. There is a ton of homebrew here you can experiment with. Remember though -- elementary homebrew -- that's it. Homebrew like this: PSP Trivia, Simpleturn, PSPuzzle... You get the idea. And you do know updates will follow. If it freezes at least try two more times, it might work. Sometimes the smaller files tend to work easier because there's less to load. Some larger sized homebrews might work but could freeze a few times. It would help the development if you guys could report to the guys at advancepsp which games work. If a game doesnt work (ie it loads but freezes or crashes) then be sure to give them the dbglog file thats created in the root of your memory stick after the crash. Ya dont have to though, just sayin' it'd help lol.

This is the patapon 2 exploit being used to run very simple homebrew. This is not a CFW. This will not allow ISOloaders. It is a simple homebrew launcher.

As for me, Every small homebrew I have tried worked on the first try.

lol anyone else notice how they got rid of Malloxis after the premature release of the exploit. They taught him a lesson. Now he wont get even a piece of fame from the exploit. Way to go keep up the great work guys

No. That would brick the PSP 3000. The flash 0 would have to be overwritten to downgrade and 3k's have a fail safe. Once it is overwritten, the psp auto-bricks.

Also, this little exploit is usermode only. You'd need a kernel exploit to even dream of CFW pretty much.

No mate, that is not advisable, this is only a USER mode launcher, NOT a Kernal mode CFW launcher, and will probably BRICK i repeat BRICK your PSP's, so don't try to use any Chickhen's or flasher's using this, because you will regret it big time.

ChickHEN doesn't flash anything? And besides that, You can't run chickHEN as it takes advantage of the libtiff exploit in 5.03.

They cannot downgrade the PSPgo, you can only go so far back. It would be pointless to downgrade anyways as they don't even have cfw's @ 6.20 or know enough about it. Plus on-top of that there is probably the pre-IPL so downgrading would brick the system instantly. (Hence ChickHEN/CFW Enabler/Gen-C on PSP2k (Ta088v3) PSP 3k's)

You can't pandora on recent PSP's let alone even flash them with CFW, The methods to downgrade a psp 1/2k without pandora is KERNEL Mode exploits! and that's with CFW available for their hardware.

eu consegui inicializar a instalação da cfw gen-a via exploit/ halfbyte loader, mas quando eu apertei L para instalar a cfw eu vi um erro dizendo que a flash falhou, não foi possivel encontrar o modulo hen, voltando para o chickhen.

tentei com a cfw enabler 3.50 e 3.70 sem sucesso.

I Have a phat PSP (6.20) and a PSPgo ,but I wanted to downgrade my phat,but I had not got a pandora.AND WITH THIS LITTLE PROGRAM I LAUNCHED HC RECOVERY FLASHER AND MADE PANDORA!!!and then of course I downgraded to 5.50gen-d3 (not with this,with pandora)!!
That is why it is so cool!!
P.S. HC Recovery flasher launched like in 3rd time so keep trying.

Thanks for the compilation MaX_SlayeR, this surely will make it easier for other users to test homebrews.

Just one thing: this project is under GPL license, so if you release anything, you have to attach the sources as well, or else you're breaking the license. You have to provide the sources you used for your mod (even if it's only one line change) so other people can make other changes over your changes if they wish. And also you have to change the name, put it HBL-MaX_SlayeR or whatever, because this is not an official modification, it's yours. I totally respect and understand your modification, but this should be done with order, so things don't get messed up.

I think we did a great step putting the source so anyone can download it, understand it, modify it, do whatever he chooses. That's why we put it under GPL, to give OUR work to the WHOLE scene. But this means other people should at least show some respect, read the license and stick to it. Anyway, we can even sue you, but I think that's totally ridiculous.

I hope you understand and I'm looking forward to see the sources you used ;)

Here's a link a file that should save the developers some time with answering questions

This is the half byte loader pack WITH working and maby working games inside. It contains everything you need for running the eloader except the patapon 2 demo which I have provided a link to in the readme.
I made the instructions as simple and noob proof as possible so there will hopefully be alot less complaints/questions.
Also m0skit0 or wololo or noob81 or whoever else if you want you can distribute my pack / edit it feel free to do so, As long as you give me some credit for putting the pack together I'm happy :twisted:

for anyone having a bit of trouble i managed to get simpleturn working after a bit of playing about. put the whole file in the memory stick root directory then copied the homebrews eboot file to the root directory also, whilst deleting the sample eboot (the one that was already there). got an error screen saying the high score data wasn't working but homebrew worked on next screen as did high score function. hope this helps...

Great job on finding the exploit and using it, hopefully this eventually leads to HEN or even proper CFW by flashing. If we can get around the auto-brick that would be great! I run 5.50 GEN on psp 2002 so im not overly excited, but if we get this running well I would get a pspgo straight away! I dont get why sony doesnt want CFW, if anything it would boost sales, right?

but if we disable the use of isos (which may be impossible to have on the go anyways due to lack of a umd drive). I think the companies won't feel as threatened, plus i just really want to play my emulators on the go anyways, and take advantage of cool blue tooth hacks (maybe even be able to use a ps3 controller without needing the ps3, so that way i could play my emulators with a true controller and could actually sit in my bed and play). Plus N64 emulator on the go with ps3 controller capabilities would be awesome since then you wouldn't have to sacrifice buttons.

The PSP go can load ISO files only .PBP files so yes sony can alow homebrew on the device and limit the free SDK they can do that but sony is just Greedy bro I mean look at all the crap games they made and got low sale and blamed it on hackers witch is a lie the games were just gay not many people loved them and made good reviews about them so it did not sell to well but its no need for sony to blame the hackers since the reason for hacking the psp in the first place was to load onsigned codes /homebrew ISO loaders came after but the Devs that worked on hacking the psp dont even support ISO loader example the first Chicken never had a ISO loader the users complained and begged for one

The reason they don't want homebrew is because it almost always leads to piracy. The GO can't load iso's because no one has came across a way to do it yet, not because it is impossible. If they allowed homebrew it would only be a matter of time before someone found a way to load iso and cso.

Wont a kernal exploitbe needed to gain full access, so that all hommebrew works as it should, also bluetooth on psp go for example wont we need kernal level to operate it?

Kool idea tho making an easy to port home brew loader that runs in user mode i just expect it to be too restrictive to be much use.

one day a kernal exploit will be found and the hb loader will be disregarded because a hen will be used. Then i hate to say it but it will come...... a iso/cso loader with CFW.

I recently bought a PSP-3000 mainly to run homebrew, unaware of the fact that the new models aren't able to do so. As I'd say I'm only interested in few of the exclusive games on UMD. I've got God of War, Killzone, and Lemmings. That's my only interest for UMD games at the moment.

So yeah, my next and only interest for PSP will be homebew! ;)

this is awsome... i manage 2 load pspident v0.4 on my psp 3000 fw 6.20. the pspident eboot replaces the eboot that come with the half bytes loader. the pspident loads like how the eboot loads but on my psp it doesnt show my psp motherboard info.... this is true not fake.... btw is pspident 4 homebrew??? im jux not sure...
