With so much drama in the PSP scene, it's hard knowing who's who and from what regime... But, somehow, someway, Dark_AleX sets the record straight like every single day... And today: a little background info concerning this bit of news -- the GripShift kernel mode exploit video... To quote Dark_AleX himself --

This is about how I trusted someone called "miriam" and I gave him a kernel exploit of C+D, which was found by joek (the ONLY ONE that deserves credit of that), just to play for HIMSELF, as it is being used to decrypt 3k modules, but the first thing he did was to show to others to get a bit of fame. So here we are today, stuck in user-mode land while completely HEN-less.

In the end, you'll have your PSP-3000 kernel mode, an interlaced screen instead of a progressive one, and Alex will loan out all his code to some Dutch guy named Lucy next time.

Some months ago, the PSP Scene saw the "birth" of a developer, called "Miriam".

We all saw funny things about him, even one stupid comparision within it's name (sort of MIR = GOD, I am = I am, lolz!)

But the real thing comes now. You might have seen a recently exploit published on some french webpage, making themselves as their own creators, and so on.

I guess I have some explaining to do after Alek was so nice (cough) to call me by my old nickname, making space for an even larger amount of flaming. I'm not going to deny that I am _HellDashX_, but I am going to deny the fact that this was all based around a lie. _HellDashX_ was the nickname of me (Miriam) and my partner Alex (unrelated to Dax), we worked together on several projects including the reverse engineering of the custom firmware. After we reversed several modules we decided to release 3.72 HX with great pleasure, which got flamed almost straight away due to the fact the modules were hex-edited. They were, but for those smart people out there, exactly how did we figured out what patches to modify if we didn't know how the modules worked? Back then we already had vshctrl and popcorn reversed. In 3.73 HX this was followed by a reverse of the IPL and several other modules, but the flame fest continued. After they were proved wrong, we gained a level of trust from Dax over the months. After a while he allowed us to release a new custom firmware (we had already completely reversed the custom firmware at this time, every single module and the IPL), but I didn't want to disclose my nickname again as people started to stereotype it, so I released it with one of our names, Miriam. I exist, I'm not artificial, and I have nothing to hide.

Now that that's covered, lets go on with the exploit. I realise few people will believe me, I don't care, but I'll tell my story anyways. A few days ago I found a vulnerability in the kernel, and after several converstations with Dark_AleX about it on MSN, he told me he used the same exploit. I told him I was implementing a private HEN but couldn't get some things working, and asked for advice. After receiving some I still didn't manage to get it working, but a friend of me came up with another solution which turned out to work fine. After a while I received the source code of his own exploit over MSN, at this point the HEN was already 95% functional, all based on my own code. Dark_AleX asked me not to disclose this kernel exploit, but to look for another one, which I respected and thus decided not to release the current HEN to public.

However, under the pressure of several people I allowed MaGiXieN to make a video of the HEN in action, but not disclose any details. Which is exactly what happened. Nobody else but MaGiXieN and me have access to this homebrew-enabler, and I'm the only one who knows how the internals work. I would've appreciated it if Dark_AleX at the very least would've mentioned anything about this on MSN, so we could've worked it out. There was absolutely no reason to jump out in the open, unveil my identity and make false assumptions without even trading a word.

I was tracking down the firmware for a new kernel exploit, but I guess I'm not going to worry about that anymore. I don't need this e-drama, I have a real life and friends and family I care about, and I leave this post with one final message, "GOODBYE"."

second, dark_alex is one skilled person in terms of psp-hacking, but the one who should get the "gogo *insert name*!!1" is joek, he who actually FOUND the exploit. dark_alex just gave the exploit to miriam (with trust that he wouldn't make any fuss bout it).

I've thought about doing the exact same thing since this all happened. But why? If Dark Alex and Miriam are going to feud. Go ahead... I just want to test them all out. I have so far. And will continue to do so.

GEN-A has some stuff weird with it (like how it doesn't flash the Slim colors to Flash.) Since its 502 instead of 500 with added features. I'll use it till I have a problem then downgrade back to reliable M33-4.

To those people: You're not proving any kind of point by downgrading. What, do you think this "Miriam" guy actually read through all of these posts, saw your comment about downgrading back to m33 and was heartbroken over it? If you preferred the 5.02 GEN firmware before hearing of this situation and downgraded in protest, the only thing you're accomplishing is depriving yourself of your firmware of choice.

SCEA/SCEE/etc etc.. you may not have intended the functions brought to us with the modified code, but believe me, without them your PSP would be a lump of junk with a back catalogue of shit overpriced games and no real advancement on what your technology can do. You make great hardware and your core software is superb, but your grasp of what people want to be able to do with your equipment is lost.

I think it is enough already! Everybody should stop quarrelling and hope that DA continues to work on the PSP-2000 TA-088 V2, PSP-3000 and come out with a CFW that do not need the Grip Shift UMD game anymore. Most shops do not sell them to customers anymore since the news spread out like hot cakes. I hope that DA and Miriam solve this issue in private and they can cooperate together once again for the benefit of the PSP community.

and then maybe DA was just so tired and then saw this exploit... w/o confronting miriam he reacted in a (where is joek name on this post... etc)

then turns out to a quite a bit war... and gain a negative trust issues...

Oh, and just for the record, the whole PSP hacking justification about "it helps sales" or "people wouldn't buy a PSP without it" is way off. For one thing, people who use custom firmware probably make up less than 1% of PSP owners. Second, factoring in development and manufacturing costs (mostly development), Sony makes very little profit from system sales. Their profit lies in the games they develop and revenue they receive from third party game developers.

I love free games and homebrew just as much as the next guy but let's not lie to ourselves...you people aren't driving up demand for PSPs and you're not helping Sony out by circumventing their security...you just don't want to pay for your games.

This is about how I trusted someone called “Dark_Alex” and I gave him a kernel exploit of C+D, which was found by me (the ONLY ONE that deserves credit of that), just to play for HIMSELF, as it is being used to decrypt 3k modules, but the first thing he did was to show to Miriam to get a bit of fame.

I dont believe DA was lying, but I think he over-reacted.

From what I've seen, Mariam seemed to be on his way, but needed DA to get it done. When he made a video and sent it to the PSPGen guy, the PSPGen guy wanted to publish it, so he talked to Alek. Now since Alek and the PSPGen had not known about DA and Mariam talking, it fucked everything up. But, Alek told the PSPGen guy it was okay, so its all Alek's fault.

ok so let's go over the shit that the newbs have been saying again

1. cfw Gen is just a cheap copy of M33 because _HELLDASHX_ reversed engineered DAX's code, but they seem to neglect that DAX's code should be consider a cheaped knockoff because it is also a reversed engineering of the official sony firmware

2. wow Miriam is _HELLDASHX_ no surprise, all i got to say on this one is that newbs flamed him before and their doing it again

3. according to the info if you guys properly read the next Gen cfw, was 95% complete this cfw is of Miriam and his team own creation, and the fact that he had to succumb to DAX is absurd, it's his cfw he doesn't to be babied or told what to release, if he wants to post a video he damn well can and you can go all to f-ing hell for telling him otherwise

4. while the gripshift exploit was found by DAX, again read the posts, Miriam found this exploit by himself and went to DAX to confirm it's authenticity and the possibility of using this as a "ground breaker" for the hacking of the 3000 series, they each found it on their own time, the fact that Miriam actually took this "secret" information and posted it on the internet doesn't mean he claimed the right to be called the first of this exploit, he merely wanted to show the exploit to prove not only there is a chance but to also give developers the hope for homebrew on the 3000

5. Now then i can understand Dark Alex's "outrage" in one way because with the Gripshift exploit revealed prematurely he will now have to take a different route incase sony does indeed release a new security patch against this exploit in their next official firmware (again you newbs who talk shit, read and actually learn about what's really going on)

6. while it may seem i am siding with Miriam i have always been a supporter of both, the fact that i made arguments for Miriam is because of the typical newb flames that revolve around DAX as some sort of messiah ("Oh praise DAX, for now we can download games for free."), Miriam is right about this for sure he does have a life and a little piece of equipment isn't it, so say thanx to his work and leave him alone, and to Miriam (_HELDASHX__) your like me, and shit like this won't keep you away from these hacking sites, so please don't quit the hacking seen, and out of support for you, i will install your GEN cfw on my psp, just remember that not all of us zealots who have succumb to the thoughts and wishes of the masses, i also wish you good luck in life and live everyday as you always have and how you want to.
