Daedalus R14 (N64 Emulator) Beta Released

Submitted by greg; May 26, 2008

Update: Not having much luck with Wally's Daedalus? Well another [unofficial] R14 release has sprung up from CaptainMorgan4. Here's what the Captain had to say:
Since Wally released his updated version of the R14beta I find it basically harmless to release here the R14beta I have from the previous "Daedalus R14beta" thread not too long ago. Anyway I believe it's pretty stable it works great with my PSP so I figured I'd let you guys check it out.

Daedalus Lives! Wally has picked up the seemingly silent StrmnNrmn Daedalus project and has issued R14 beta. Newcomers should know Daedalus emulates the Nintendo 64 console; it's in the beta stages of development and many roms aren't playable. Although, you should still give it a shot -- Daedalus deserves it. Longtime readers -- R14 exhibits some improvement, but is said to be slightly buggier. You win some you lose some. Daedalus R14 changes:
  • A bit of ME support
  • A tad faster
  • A bit buggier.
  • New Icons etc
Known issues:
  • Debug menus popup - these are bypass-able by pressing the SQUARE button and shouldn't be very often.

until zelda and perfect dark or at least golden eye are playable i think it is kinda pointless releasing these updates, but still glad to hear the project lives. keep up the good work mate.

Holy crap... I'm glad this project is still alive. I've been waiting for this.

But can Wally really take StrmnNrmn's place on the Daedalus project? Find out in a the future episode of "Daedalus" on the psp-hacks network.

U guys that are complaining should really stop...

If u cant code a program like this then why are u getting angry at him??

He seems to be the only person working on this N64 project right now. And what if all of your bashing makes him lose hope?? huh?

We could be waiting a long time for a N64 emulator then!

Y'all need to use yer brains. Understand that they don't even use tubes anymore so when the bugs get stuck in the transistors then it's like way harder to get them out. DUH! Idiots... god...

By the way Wally: Thanks for the release, and taking the time to post a link to clear things up.

no i agree with jayzen, i have been using psp hacks since it was born, and this development of the n64 emulator is a good idea but lets face it its been way to long! and all the beta releases get are "a little bit faster" no real improvments, face it guys the psp is not suposed to play N64 games and its seems by looking at the "CODE" etc, its way to complicated. the n64 emulator on the pc was never all that good, even the one for the xbox, you could not play a game properly and if you did it would crash! i have tryed many different ways to get it working but same result everytime. and it think the psp version is just the same.

and dont be sad by giving comments like you ungreatfull fuck, and lets see you come up with somthing. if you want to play the n64 games go buy an N64 of ebay for about 20 quid and some games for 2-4 quid each. because believe me you will be waithing years for this!

And that means you should tell the coder or us to stop wasting our time? Why don't you leave it alone if you find its a waste. Especially don't waste your time reading and replying to comments on a topic you don't agree with.... oh wait.

I can play the games fine on a n64 or on my pc, but I would love a new way to play- on my psp. Tell me, how does this being in development hurt you? If you don't like it stay the fuck out.

Oh and thanks to all the people who put their hard work and time into this project, I can't wait to see the next version and its improvements- no matter how small they may be.

To all those putting this down.....

*Pc's play it fine
*The psp is capable, homebrews just not there yet
*Can you code it? No - STFU then
*No sound piss u off? How about no N64?
*No real improvements huh? Maybe they should never have released it? Maybe you look down in discrase at the homebrew community?

Think before you post you ungrateful pieces of shit.

I've downloaded this version here, and CaptainMorgan4 release and both seem to do the same thing.

I'm running 3.90 M33-3 on my Slim.

What happens is I try and load the game file then the blue screen comes up. So I keep pushing square. Then it seems to freeze and about a minute later the PSP shuts its self off.

i never said i dont agree with it...? anyways your missing my point, i was informing other readers who may or may not have seen this development about the progress and just how long its been worked on.

i agree it would be great to have a NEW way to play but i dont think it will happen anytime soon...

and no it does not "hurt me", theres nothing wrong in letting other people know about this homebrew. be it good or bad

# Piddlyshit 2008-05-29 09:47
OMG "can you code it" how about can you yes thats you CODE IT??

and "no sound piss you off?" and no n64?

dude whats the fucking point! lets just go tell all the game manufacturers, fuck it, dont worry bout putting sound in the games why the fuck would we want that??

you stupid twat.

and no i dont look down in discrase to the homebrew community, there is lots of good stuff in here. but lets not forget that were talking about this ONE piece of homebrew not the whole community, this is one developer!

i think your the one that needs to think before you post.

oh and one big thing to all people saying your getting this shit for free so dont bitch. did you ever think to remember the DONATION via paypal? and thats what keeps the good developments alive???

To everyone bitching about Daedalus (any ver.):

Daedalus is FREE. I can hardly begin to fathom how much coding would go in to creating such an application, especially for a proprietary platform. Give the author some credit. This isn't something he just up and did one day in a couple of hours. Consider all the hard work that went into the program and the fact that it is offered for free before you bash the author. It's a work in progress- and a voluntary one at that.

Daedalus is a very impressive piece of software, regardless of the glitches.
