Daedalus R10 Released -- PSP N64 Emulation!

Submitted by greg; April 01, 2007

Last Thursday StrmnNrmn left us on the edge of our computer chairs as we anxiously commenced the R10 count down. Now as StrmnNrmn continues his vast crusade through the virtual depths, the well progressing & highly anticipated Nintendo 64 emulator is ready for prime time! Without further ado... The one, the only, Daedalus R10! What's the diff?
  • [+] Added framerate limiting option.
  • [+] Added adjustable stick deadzone.
  • [+] Allow pause menu to be activated even when rom emulation has hung.
  • [!] Fix crash when no roms found, added explanatory message.
  • [!] Fix flickering when small number of roms found.
  • [^] Fix texture hash frequency check.
  • [^] Finally got code compiling with -O3 optimisation flag in GCC.
  • [^] Use VFPU for InvSqrt (thanks hlide!)
  • [^] Improved VFPU code for clipping and tnl (thanks Raphael!)
  • [^] Improved inlining of AddTri.
  • [^] Reduced time spent searching for overridden blend modes.
  • [~] Remove debug console in public release builds (smaller footprint and slight speedup.)
Mad props StrmnNrmn, job well done! Download: Daedalus R10 (for 1.50+ fw) Daedalus R10 (for 1.00 fw) Daedalus R10 Source - source: StrmnNrmn's blog

And by the way for the ones that don't know what the source code is: it's the code ... if you don't know programmation don't even bother with it.

for coders only who may try to develop the code better. you only need Daedalus R10 (for 1.50+ fw) if your on OE.

Right, you don't need it to run the emulator.

# Squidman 2007-04-01 20:49
you claim to have a 3.11 downgrader and don't know what source code is..........

any ways, the source code is the code that is used to make the app/game possible, if your NOT a homebrew developer, or a developer period, you DO NOT need the source code, just download the files that will run on your PSP
1.00 - the one labled for 1.00
1.50 - the one labled for 1.50
any custom firmware - either will do nicely

amazing improvement overall, i dont care about sound so that makes the rom run quite a bit better, just being able to make a working emu for n64 on psp is pretty awsome work, F- what everyone says your doing a great job. i just want mario 64 to work without sound. cant wait for R11. Peace man.

as with last release, the games that do work dont really matter. becuase i only found mario and mario kart playable. megaman 64 was decent. slow and gfx errors but i played it for a good amount of time,. i'm not gonna go through my 60+ roms again this time xD

i just wanna know where the frameskip option is please

Way to go Strmnnrmn. Guys, those "useless" updates you're talking about are significant to the emulator's functionality. You want a good emulator? It's going to take time. Think of it like this. You go to the refrigerator to get a drink. Now think of every step that it takes to get that drink. I mean everything, from walking left foot, right foot, raising your arm, gripping the refrigerator handle, etc. That is how Strmnnrmn must code this bad boy emulator. Show some respect.

the hard work that is being put into this will definitely pay off. Im impressed it has got as far as it has a n64 emu on psp its still mind boggling having said that its not worth testing untill at least one game runs glitch free. Even with a fast cpu there was never a proper emulator released. Just hope that nintendo releases more awesome 64 games on the wii

i hate these monthly realeases ,every 6 months would be way better and he should get a team involved in helping him with all aspects of the emulation and testing ... i have emailed him offering help but no reply so far.apart from that all i can say is good work ! and thats without looking at the emulation.

you really don't have any idea on how to program anything for the PSP do you? If you even looked at the early version of any psp emulator they weren't perfect. It takes time and effort and saying it won't ever be 100% your just talking out your ass. Did you see how slow the GBA emulators were when they first came out compared to now? It just takes time and saying crap like what you've said is just ignorant and stupid.

wrong, either 1.00 or 1.50 EBOOT can be used in custom firmware, 1.00 eboot is best to use because it never shows a currupt icon, and if you ever decide to delete it while in the xmb, it deletes the whole thing (not just one of the 2 folders)

# Download 1.5 Eboot Why? 2007-04-03 01:00
3,530 downloads of the 1.50 EBOOT version
385 downloads of the 1.00 EBOOT version

this makes no since to me. i would guess around 90% of us use custom firmware, so why download the version 1.5 eboot??

Good Job man, i wonder if you try to use N64 bios on your next version, maybe the bios of N64 make everthing easy to everyone.

please understand this (to all of you)
look at gba emulation , near perfect !
gba roms are in some cases bigger than n64
and they can run ,also cps2 has very large roms
and using the rom cache function alllows them
to play full speed.

so roms are not a problem ,the problem is
deadalus on pc is too heavy for todays pc's let alone psp ... so its a bad idea from the start , pj64 can run much better on very low spec pc's
but this pj64 is still a very complicated emulator
so i think to have around 60% n64 roms running near perfect is a sure thing but only with pj64 and
it would have to coded by the original pj64 developer.

so give up the constant moan about n64 on psp
and only keep eyes peeled if you are truly interested in emulation or n64 emulation as this emu will never in my opinion go anywhere fast.

It is the first time I ever tried this N64 Emulator and I must admit, I got really excited when I saw the Mario 64 logo on my PSP. I almost shed a tear...
Great work! Don't give up.
Waiting for teh next release.... :)

people stop saying waiting for next release... damn! lol StrmnNrmn is not a machine! damn fine work this time frameskip makes for smoother gameplay and the adjustable deadzone settings are awesome because my analog stick is fucked up

I don't think people fully appreciate this emulator, it gets much much better every time and the other emu doesn't even come close. I have to say R11 owns Mario 64 and I am not gonna ask for anything more.

Awesome job StrmnNrmn

Not a huge speed boost, 15% is accurate.I was hopeing for around 30% speed increase. 30% would probably allow mario 64 to run smoothly with the sound on. That would keep a handfull of us busy till the next release. All and all its what i expected in the new release. Arius is right , deadalus is to much for the psp to handle.
However I have to give credit were credits due. This is a very hard task, setting out to get this emulator to run smoothly. Deadalus is a demanding emulator and the fact that you've managed to get it this far is amazing. Its going to take a very long time to get this thing running at 100%.
I've been farting around with the emulators settings and i find it runs best without sound.
