6.20 TN-A / Homebrew Enabler (HEN) Released Updated

Size it up, shake it around... All right you can open it now -- it's an early Xmas gift from Total_Noob and pspgen -- the highly anticipated 6.20 TN-A (HEN)!

Now you can't play any ISOs/CSOs just yet -- you gotta wait for that. Someone'll port an existing ISO loader or create a new one compatible with 6.20. Otherwise check the included readme.txt for everything else you oughta know. 6.20 TN-A (HEN) Requirements

A PSP - any model - with firmware 6.20 installed.

6.20 TN-A (HEN) Instructions

Install Patapon Demo & HBL on your PSP.
Extract EBOOT.PBP to /PSP/GAME/HEN/EBOOT.PBP, or to /HBL/GAME/EBOOT.PBP if you want to launch it directly.
Launch Patapon Demo and load exploited savedata (Continue).
Now it jumps into HEN mode.
Enjoy homebrews and plugins (you'll lose HEN mode if you reset/shutdown the device or if your PSP crashes).

Update: A couple notes from my personal experience with 6.20 TN-A (HEN) and a PSPgo: The first run it worked fine -- HEN loaded no problem and behaved as it should. Consecutive runs thereafter (from a cold boot) always failed. To get it working again I uncommented the following line in hbl/hbl_config.txt:

override_sceIoMkdir=-1

Works again! ... despite the memory leak error. Here are some tips if you're experiencing crashes and/or other problems:

Backup whatever you want to keep from your memory stick, format it, and start fresh. Download everything you need and pack that freshly formatted stick. Restore your save games and whatever else after the fact.
Fiddle with hbl/hbl_config.txt. Try changing the different overrides and other configurable options.
Clear out your ms0:/seplugins folder. Some plugins may be incompatible with 6.20 TN-A.
Disable vMenu (VisualMenu) if you're using it.
Sift through the comments. You aren't alone. Many users are reporting crashes but also reporting fixes/workarounds. Take your time and read on.

Update: By way of Wololo via virtuous flame -- an unofficial fix for PSP-3000 owners. 6.20 TN-A doesn't recognize newer PSP-3000 models (it's a 4g vs. 3g thing); this EBOOT.PBP (you're replacing HEN/EBOOT.PBP) corrects that. Update: Comments indicate that homebrew is still likely to crash on some (newer 4g?) PSP-3000 models, that's after using virtuous flame's patched EBOOT. Hang tight -- you know it'll get fixed. Just a moment...
This only makes the PSP launch Homebrews and plugins, but it does not install the newest hacked firmware on it!
So, after rebooting psp, you are back at PSP 6.20 and before starting ISO Launcher or any other homebrews and plugins, oyu have to start Patapon 2 anytimes.
Why should i install it on my PSP -2000- Firmware 5.50 Gen-D3?
It sure can help my friend to hack his psp -3000- but do they work on an installable Version, or did i understand something wrong?

i downloaded everything on top.
HBL 107 and hbl 109 same it crashes

Back when 5.03 ChickHEN was released, sometime after a new version of Hellcat's Recovery Flasher was released that could detect HEN mode. There was even a way to install custom firmware to a HEN-enabled PSP through the Recovery Flasher. What do you think are the odds that'll happen with TN-A?

if your hbl crashes with it :

delete the eboot.pbp in the menu folder in the hbl folder
ans replace it with the hen eboot.pbp
then you start the patapon exploit like everytime
the hen will now load directly without a menu -> won't crash

Got myself a PSP Slim 2004. Everything is working fine. To those having problems, I would suggest formating your memory card and installing everything from scratch (Patapon 2 Demo, Savegame exploit, TN-HEN and whatever homebrew you will be using/testing it with. I just tried Hellcats Recover Flasher on my PSP1000 and it got stuck on the loading screen. The Hen works fine but it would be nice to flash a full custom firmware on to my PSP. If anyone gets it to work, can you let me know.

It can't brick your PSP just like that.
Just pull out the battery and put it back on. And connect the AC adaptor, just to make sure it's not a battery issue.

I'll post this again:

If it crashes on you, create a folder within the hbl folder and name it: GAME

Once you've done that, drag the HEN into the GAME folder and launch Patapon and execute the exploit. Once the HBL menu is done loading, it will take you back to the XMB and it should work.

GoTube works on the HEN (PSPGO).

And the Puase button feature to regain HEN after a shutdown works too, even with Homebrew.

Seems like 3K owners are the only ones having trouble.

Works fine for me, Listen to wat Awesome said “One thing I NEED to mention: In hbl_config.txt (located in the hbl folder on the root of your memory stick), the parameter: return_to_xmb_o n_exit=0 NEEDS to be: return_to_xmb_o n_exit=1 Otherwise this WILL NOT work.” Do this and also ppl treat the HEN as if u were playing a homebrew, run it from the demo exploit shown up above, also don’t shut your psp down, when you get this HEN working, press select on the psp to get the Menu to show and press suspend instead of shutting it down, it will save u the trouble of having to reboot Patapon 2 demo over and over. For now i’m going to enjoy some homebrew thank you Total Noob, Team Gen, and Wololo 4 EVERYTHING !!!!

put them in ms0:/seplugins

make a file called vsh.txt in the seplugins folder

make a line leading to the plugin followed by a 1. example:

ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx 1
ms0:/seplugins/randomprx2.prx 1

just keep adding lines like this when you put new plugins. to enable them, just go to TN VSH MENU (press select on XMB) and select restart VSH.

I hope they release an updated version. I've got a PSP1000 and when I loaded Hellcats up, it crashed on the loading screen.

I've tried with
- Protect flash 0, on and off in the VHS menu.
- The 500.pbp in the root of the memory stick, and in the psp/game/recovery folder.

I guess it's just not compatible with firmware 6xx.

Ok, wait. Got a problem. I've got a PSP 1001 and It worked the first time, but the second time I tried it, It doesn't display that I have HEN installed, and when I tried to start ANY Game, the PSP crashes.

I've noticed a lot of people are trying to help, however, you have to understand that repeating the obvious over and over isn't making things better. I've tried putting TN HEN in every possible folder, using every possible setting, and all I get is a black screen, then the PSP shuts down. Sometimes it pops up an error first, sometimes it doesn't. In any case, it just seems to be picky about PSP-3000s, so if you can get it to work on yours, then great. If not, then just sit tight and hope something is done to fix this real soon.

6.20 TN-A Hen confirmed to work on a PSP-3010. At first it crashed when loading the Eboot from the menu, but I changed the Eboot to ms0:/hbl/game/ and it worked like a charm. There's not too much I can do with it right now, since I don't know how to use the plugins, but is nice to have this released, Great Work total_noob!, expecting your next release ;)

Yes, most of us are waiting on an ISO Loader (or/and a CFW).
I have a bricked 2001 (not really bricked but has no use for me without loading ISO's) and i've being waiting for quite some time as most of you probably are.
Anyway, HEN TN-A works on it and for the ppl that waited this much, waiting a bit more won't hurt.

Tried on 4GB MS Pro Duo with my own files and Metroid III's, when in the /PSP/GAME/HEN folder I could get HBL to load but executing it caused it to crash after displaying some text. Putting it in /HBL/GAME caused no text to pop up after the initial HBL text, just black screen and lock up for several seconds then a crash

Freshly formatted 1GB MS Pro Duo same thing. It sometimes gives slightly different results like ChickHEN does, but always crashes.

Reset all system defaults, no difference.

My definition of a crash, btw, is that it hangs with the MS read light on or off and sits at a black screen for several seconds then powers down completely, it doesn't go back to the XMB until I turn it back on and then it's straight 6.20.

I dont think that my psp 3001 is compatible either. I tried restoring default settings, formating memory stick, different hbl rev, installing everything fresh, changing hbl.config settings and all i can get is crashes. I feel like theres no way to get this to work.

Hey guys, for the people who are having problems with their psp 3000s, make sure you don't have any incompatible plugins on your memory stick. Because it didn't work for me too, but then I deleted my "seplugins" folder and it worked.
Be sure to back it up before you try to delete it.

Okay so I formatted my PSP's memory stick. Then I placed all the files that're needed for TN-A. Still no luck. The "WARNING MEMORY LEAK" message shows up (It's supposed to show up) right before it shuts down/ crashes.

If any of you PSP3000 owners got TN-A HEN to work. It would be appreciated if you posted replied back to this comment about how to do things SPECIFICALLY. Please. :|

6.20 TN-A HEn Officially doesnt work on some psp 300X models. I tried so many different things and tried to install it at least 100 times and got nothing but crashes. I thought i was doing something wrong so i pulled out my busted broken psp 2000 and updated to 6.20 from 5.00 m33-6 and tried to install TN-A HEn and what do you know..? BAM first fukin try. Now to sit back and wait for a fix or be 1 of the unlucky ppl that wont be able to enjoy TN's HEn.

well i have made a mid fix for that problem i changed the line in the hbl_config.txt

hey everyone.. for 3000 users.. i have a psp 3004 with ofw 6.20 on it... and i'm using HBL rev 100.. and it works fine to me... no crashes.. no bugs... just perfectly fine... may the problem source comes from the latest revisions of HBL.. try using an old one like mine... hope this helps...

You have to put the EBOOT in the hbl/menu folder I have 3000 on 6.20 wouldnt work at all from the menu select but when i put it directly in the hbl menu folder it loads right up back to the xmb with no crashing!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

FOR THOSE OF YOU ON PSP GOS GETTING ERRORS - do a fresh install of HBL 109 (listed above) and do NOT get vmenu. Just use the normal HBL out of the box. I was using the vmenu and got a billion issues but the second I went back to the regular HBL menu from a fresh install I've been good. Occasional issues but at least it's actually booting. PSP Go, 6.20 FW, N-1001

hi. i tried using HBL 109 with TN-A and it kept crashing at the sart of homebrew. so i decided to swap my memory cards and this one i load the TN-A and it only has HBL 101 and my psp is running fine and it doesn't crash. if your having problems try HBL 101 like i did and see if it works.

For all the people that are having difficulty, try using a different memory card. This made it work on my PSP-1001. I tried a bunch of different things on the first memory card, Metroid_III's pack, Nymphaea's pack, clean install of both HBL r101 r109, etc; the HEN would run but crash on a game. For shits and giggles, tried a clean install of HBL101 and the HEN on a different memory card, and hey, shit works!

I'm wondering if this might be a timing issue on memory stick reads; the memory stick that works is noticibly slower than the one that didn't work.

Working memory stick: SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo w/ MagicGate
Borked memory stick: Sony 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo w/ MagicGate (The one that shipped with my PSP)

If you use just the regular GEN-D3 Installer you can you can revert back to 5.50 GEN D3. I was testing 6.20 TN-A and instead of using my battery to get back to 5.50 GEN I used the GEN-D3 installer with TN-A.

You are stupid you can just go to ms0/hbl and make a game folder named "GAME" then you just put the Eboot.pbp in it, launch Papton 2 Demo and then HBL, HBL will not boot but instead you'll be back to XMB and booted to 6.20 TN-A (HEN)

If you've used the patch, and can get your TN-A to load, but cannot get the homebrew to load, this is probably for you.

My original issue was instant crashing upon loading HBL. I installed the patch, and could get back to the xmb (system data would show I was running TN-A) but then it would crash when I tried to load a homebrew. I tried a few other tricks out there, such as formatting and restoring system defaults but that didn’t seem to work. I eventually installed HBL revision 101, and managed to get my snes9x to load up twice but then it continued to black screen on me. I tried the cache/auto-boot off, and it still didn’t work. I tried the above trick and tadaaa.

For those concerned with specifics:

PSP-3001
HBL rev 101
Unofficial HEN patch (located in x:HBL/GAME)
UMD Auto-Start – Off
UMD Cache – Off (works with it on as well.)

Under VHS menu:
CPU clock XMB/GAME – Disable
Fake region – Disabled
Skip gameboot – Enabled (works disabled as well.)
Everything else I’ve left default and haven’t fiddled with.

I’ve only tested this with three emulators and PSPComic, but it’s worked perfectly each time I’ve pulled the mem card/vsh reboot trick.

I'm alright with this until a fix or something comes along, but if you guys have a suggestion so I don't have to keep doing the memory card pull that'd be awesome. Thanks, and I hope this helps in some form or fashion.

Meh, thanks for all the hardwork TN, even though I'm not going to upgrade, it's good to see the PSP Scene coming back to SOME life. 2 reasons I ain't gonna get this CFW:-
- Firstly it's a HEN, so thats the lamest part since you can't shutdown your PSP and of course the random game crashes will lead to same thing.
- Secondly it's supposed to have some kind of ISO loader to run games, which I hate, people who are homebrew freaks, this is the CFW for them.

Memory Leak = Memory is getting away!!! You need to stop the leak before you go out of memory! usual places to leak are the UMD slot. The card slot is not an unusual place to go either. Check them carefully. Use special bandages to stop the leaking.

That is strange: i just changed my Memory Card and the previous bug (no homebrew running) fixed installing Wololo's package! I switched back to the previous Memory Card and it didn't work, again. The strange thing is that both cards are identical (SONY 2GB MagicGate etc.) bought together the same date with same model numbers and stuff! Maybe i have to clean the non-working card once again, before i go for the next try. I'll let you know.

Overall, if you can't run homebrew, just clean your Memory Card and install Wololo's package.

1-Load the hen using patapon exploit normally
2-When the hen finished loading and you´re back to xmb,remove the memory stick
3-Go to the vsh menu(hold select) and choose RESTART VSH
4-When finished reboot,insert the memory stick again
5-Enjoy your homebrews =D

Listen guys for all those that get the locking up and reseting try the above solutions, tnx to other users I found a temporary solution while searching the net, which helps to load all homebrew, but it defeats the object i suppose.

1. open patapon and load hen, which will reset your psp.
2. check HEN is enabled by pressing select and you should see the vsh menu.
3. remove your mem card.
4. press select u see the vsh menu and choose restart vsh menu
5. after psp ram restarts, insert your mem card then go to ur homebrew and click on it and everything should load and it doesent crash and so far works perfectly !!
6. follow steps 3 & 4 evertime u start a new homebrew.

I used both the patched and unpatched version of the HEN, and it gets past the "WARNING: MEMORY LEAK" and returns to XMB, but then if i try to start a homebrew, it just hangs there and then crashes. I've got a PSP-3001 on 6.20. Also, Merry Christmas everyone!

Ok this does work. I have a psp 3001. You will need:

Virtuous Flame unofficial fix for psp 3001

No plugins folder(Most plugins dont work, such as game catagories)

hbl rv109 without visual menu

I did not mess with the hbl config, and got this to work. Unfortunatly, most plugins do not work now, so perhaps there will be a fix for this. PSP Filer 6.6 works perfectly now!!!

For everyone with a PSP 300x (mine is a 3004):

- Install Patapon 2 Demo and the cracked savegame.
- Install HBL R109.
- Put the virtuous flame eboot.pbp into the hbl/menu/ folder and replace the existing eboot.pbp
- Open the hbl_config.txt in the hbl folder and set return_to_xmb_o n_exit=0 to return_to_xmb_o n_exit=1
- Load Patapon 2, load the cracked savegame, after loading press R to start the HBL. It will automaticaly reboot your PSP (with the memory leak error) and load TN HEN 6.20.
- Now open TN VSH Menu and click “restart VSH” the screen will go black once it does right away pop out your memory stick, once it completely starts back up, put the memory stick back in and try a homebrew, it works. (thx to james1552 from wololos side)

It works with my PSP 3004.

I have a psp 3001 and was getting the same problem as all of you with the memory leak msg and crash or without the msg and crash. I just took everything out that was valuable (pictures, savedata, all that good stuff) and i formatted my memory stick. Then I just put the HBL R109, patapon with the exploit, and the virtuous flame HEN. I didnt change nothing not in config nor put the eboot somewhere other than psp/game/hen. I booted up patapon, didnt create the saved stuff it asks for, loaded the exploit, went to HEN folder, and BAM i was HENed. Well hopefully that may help some of you 3ks.

You don't have to keep taking the memory stick out everytime you run a different homebrew. You just have to run the patched Hen the the hbl, wait until it loads back to the xmb, take out the Memory Stick, press the select button and go to restart vsh, once it restarts again reinsert the Memory Stick and all homebrew should work. The only time you have to reset the vsh is after you activate the hen through the hbl.

For all those having problems with homebrew crashing after gameboot you probably have an incompatible plugin. I got this problem after trying to launch Picodrive emulator. I deleted my seplugins folder and problem solved.

UPDATE: PSPSLIMBRIGHTNE SS_0.2 plugin confirmed to work.

Tested Macrofire with it and when launched in the XMB the screen turns black. When I launched it in the TN-A GBA emulator it appears all glitchy and the top part of the menu is invisible and when you select remap the menu disappears leaving the GBA emulator menu with black outlines. It doesn't work and now I can't use it because my PSP has circuit damage to the start button and it is automatically pushed repeatedly.

Ah jeese, my bad again, the GBA emulator is not tweaked for TN-A so it wasn't gona work in the first place. Tested Macrofire with the TN-A N64 emulator and the weirdest shit just... well you have to open the HOME N64 menu and press - and + then the menu pops out fine but the movement is glitchy and its tough but possible to get to highlight the command you want. My PSP 2000 analog stick is screwed up and moves on its own so I wanted to disable it, I have to highlight Activate macro fire and press o to turn it on(pressing x quits the macro menu, weird huh?) then I have to use o to enter the analog adjustment menu and deactivate my analog stick so it doesn't screw around. Pressing circle to load a remap causes the PSP to shut down so this is a bitch... I'm gona try the remap without loading...

Attempting to remap with macrofire while in the N64 Emulator HOME menu will prevent you from doing anything except quitting the game which freezes the PSP. The x and circle buttons are reversed for some reason...

I GOT MACROFIRE REMAP TO WORK!(well at least while using the N64 emulator) First you have to press HOME while running a N64 game to bring up the black menu, then you have to press - and + to bring up the macrofire menu(you can barely see any of the menu). You have to keep pressing up till you see "enter o" and the bottom, you have to press o to see the analog menu then just press x to leave. Then enter the macro menu again and the menu will appear completely. Then just keep pressing up till "Activate Macrofire Engine" is selected then press o till its [on] then move to "remap" and press triangle to select the remaps and o to choose the buttons and the remap things, after your done, x will exit. x and o are reversed for some reason...

Okay... why the HELL are people with psp 100x models trying to get this? It would make a lot more sense to get custom firmware! I received a psp 1000 with OFW 6.20 and could still install CFW, so why aren't you people wasting your time here? Oh, and good luck to all the 200x, 300x, and GO users with the TN hen! I'm in a pickle here. I'm still using OFW 6.20 on my PSP Go and am pretty happy with just HBL for now. I want to update to OFW 6.35 and log into the PSN for my three promotional PSP Go games. I just want them on my account for my older PSP (which I intend to keep legit) before I take the plunge.

IF I decide to wait for TN Hen 6.35 with my PSP Go, I won't be able to use Patapon 2 or Hot Shots to access HBL, right? What are my options if I do this? I sort of want to do this soon to pre-empt the release of OFW 6.36 and ruin my chances at TN Hen 6.35.

What does it mean you'll lose the HEN mode when you power down? I thought this was a firmware overwrite? Does this mean when you lose the HEN mode, it'll be back into regular OFW 6.20, or did I just read that wrong?

I have a psp 3001 with ofw 6.20 and the removing the memory card after loading HEN worked for all of my up to date homebrew and emulators ....weird way to get it to work but whatever.

hello admins at DASHHACKS. i know how to fix psp 3000 series which get error when loading hen. just do this and it will work. i tried on 3 psp and it worked.

1. open patapon and load hen, which will reset your psp.
2. check HEN is enabled by pressing select and you should see the vsh menu.
3. remove your mem card.
4. press select u see the vsh menu and choose restart vsh menu
5. after psp ram restarts, insert your mem card then go to ur homebrew and click on it and everything should load and it doesent crash and so far works perfectly !!
6. follow steps 3 & 4 evertime u start a new homebrew.

I just found a little trick on pspgo to bypass the papaton boot.
When you have hen running and playing homebrew hit the ps button and pause game so if your psp crash or power down just turn on and resume game it will bring you back in to hen without booting papaton again.
so there is a little faster boot process

psp-go 6.20 with hen , everything works except need to turn off cwcheats and macrofire plugins prx to prevent promeafus backup iso loader and cps1/cps2 crashing. but to be short promefus backup iso loader and cps1 works fine. Urgently need the cwcheats and macrofire compatibility back.

so, my psp got stolen a while back, havnt ben in the psp game for a while, my wife picked up a used psp 1k at gamestop for me, it has firmware 6.2 installed on it right now, can i use this to downgrade? like, will HEN enable installing an older firmware? if not, maybe thats something to look at for some devs. anyway, cinfirm or deny asap pls.

OK so those wanting to downgrade: PSP 1k or 2k to cfw
Get the updater for the cfw u want (5.50 GEN-XX, 5.00 M33-6) along with watever else u would regularly need for it (550.pbp, 500.pbp) run the HEN and select the updater file from the XMB. Note: It has to be in the UPDATE folder. Ex. ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE ) RECOVERY FLASHER IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TN-A HEN!! At least not the latest version. Cheers and Enjoy

Please note that your psp must be able to support cfw. PSP 2k TA-v3's, 3k's, and PSPGo's are not able to do this.

I'm about to sound like the biggest noob ever but has anyone got a simple tutorial?
I have the patapon 2 demo and the save in my psp/savedata folder but whenever I start up the patapon demo and go through everything I can never find the save data!! I need to get hbl installed right? im so confused :/ I have all my iso's that I used from my phat but I don't know what to do :( I have my gpsp, snes9xtyl etc. etc. all in my game file (With my isoloader) but they are said to be corrupted when I click them. So how do I install hbl, how to i get eh hen? Can anyone pleaaase speak in simple forms please as I'm not an expert...

It went back to XMB and when I ran the '6.xx Kernel Exploit' it got stuck at the White PlayStation Portable screen. Guys I have a question I originally bought my psp-3001 the amazon black friday version becuase I saw that can be hackable from December and it came with the version 6.20, when trying to apply the homebrew it crashed and get off on the papaton game after pressing the R button, I did everything more than 2 times and the same thing happens every time, the following are steps that I did:

I save the patapon demo in to the memory, and also the save exploit on to save folder,
- copy the HBL and also I copied the 6.20 TN-A (HEN) in to game folder
- I run the patapon demo and wololos return file and it takes it, I got to the patapon screen and when I press the "R" button it crashed and turns off
- How didnt work I tried to do it directly how also was recommended to copy the EBOOT and replace it with the one located in the HBL folder under game folder

I also tried to run the HBL by itself without patapon and it runs perfectly also I added a homebrew and seems to be running just fine, however when trying to run the HEN from the HBL it says that cannot find the exploit and turns off.

I am wondering if I did something wrong and if I did everything good is that something that can be fix? because it was recommended for the PSP-3001 to use hen, but it my case there are not way to get it work, using the BHL and patapon

After broking my head searching in the internet I found something that may be fix some situations for most of the people that I dont see it posted in here
There is a another hen version that was release on december 30th that doesnt need the patapon it is just to run it and it will load the hen and allow me to run prometheus iso loader and I could run CSO/ISO but not all of them

Wait for a sure thing psp 3k fix. I'm tempted to screw with mine, just so I dont' have to go through the 3 step process for mine to make games play. It's better then bricking it, so I wait for someone who knows a thing or two, or I get the battery and teach myself by trial and error.

(PSP 3002 on 6.20) I've done the whole Patapon 2 Demo thing and it works, but when I select HEN, "WARNING: Memory Leak" shows up, then hangs at a black screen for around 20 seconds and then the console turn off. I can run homebrews via Patapon 2 demo but the I don't think the console actually gets "HENned".

ok if your having trouble with the savedata just press no on the first pop up during the game then another one will appear click yes on it then you should be at the main menu, just load te savegame and HOLD R when it says push any button dont just tap it.
