verGen v1.0 Released

Submitted by greg; November 03, 2011

For anyone who doesn't know, version.txt is a text file that holds certain details pertaining to the current firmware version installed on your PSP. Some features/functions, like upgrading your firmware, check this file first. Games too... You can edit this file to bypass certain firmware checks in games and demos. So for example, if you're old school running 5.00 GEN or M33 and a game you wish to play requires a later firmware version, you simply edit this file, save it back to flash0 and now that game *may* work. Frostegater's "verGen" generates this file -- version.txt -- for you as it holds more info than just the firmware version number; verGen also writes said file back to flash0 under /vsh/etc/. Don't worry though -- it's safe ... or should be anyway. Download: verGen v1.0 - source: psdev.ru

I'm having a hard time finding out exactly what VerGen does.

I have a PSP 2000 running 5.50 Gen. I tried DL'ing a demo from PSN on my PS3 and it says "A software update is required" So I start up VerGen, change my Version.txt to 6.60 and try to DL'd the Dem,o again. Then it gives me error (8159671421) or some crap like that.

Isn't VerGen supposed to edit my Version.txt so I can play newer games or demo from the PSN?

I also tried transferring some GTPSP cars I already DL'd on my PS3 from PSN and it's the same thing, Error with a long code.

So what games, demos, or features in general are available once you edit your Version.txt? So far I can't find any use for this???

I think they should replace "may" with "Still doesn't work at all". This crap is useless. I 've tried several games and demos that require a Version.txt check and they still won't play after using verGen. Has anyone found any use for this yet??

Version.txt doesn't work with the PSN store, which is why very few people still use 5.00cfw. I moved up to 6.20 permanent after ~April 09? or 10? when sony figured out how to fix the version.txt editing exploit people were using to get on PSN.

This will work if you already have a PSN compatible cfw like 6.00+. Otherwise it's purely for the sake of UMD/ISOs.
