UMD Killer Fixed

Submitted by tbag; April 15, 2012

Yesterday we reported that Avanaboy had found an issue with his UMD Killer 1.2 and he was working on a fix.  Well after 7 hours of strait code he has released his fix. The issue became apparent when trying to dump a video UMD... it would freeze because for some reason it needed kernel access that was not available in some custom firmware. To workaround this Avanaboy built UMD Killer into a .prx file to give it the kernel access it needed to function for all types of UMD's but has also compiled an Eboot version for dumping game UMD's only. So pick what you need and have fun backing up your UMD's for all your legal ISO gaming needs.

I like that people are still creating PSP homebrew however I don't personally see any reason to still be building UMD dumpers. I personally don't even own any UMDs anymore. I am curious to whom is actually going to be using such a homebrew like this since I know from the past that there was already working UMD dumpers unless they no longer function on newer firmwares. Anyways props to Avanaboy on the hard work and the quick fixes. It's nice to see quality work and a dedicated worker. Hope to see more stuff from you soon.

Maybe because some people still use a custom firmware to back up their legally owned games. I am one of those people. However, your argument about still building these is valid, you can just set USB mode to UMD in VSH options to copy a UMD to your PC. It's literally built into the custom firmware.

I still buy UMD's and own the games I put on my CFW PSP people that don't own the games they play make me sick! They are the reason why Sony has spent so much time and money going after Homebrew developers. The reason for CFW is to have a better way to access your games that is faster and more reliable than an UMD disc. It also brings us cool homebrew which is full of neat gadgets and unique games that regular developers won't put out because they don't alway's fit the marketing formula.

So go out and buy your games and quit stealing them!
