Pachter Is All Negative Whe n It Comes To Wii U

Michael Pachter isn't exactly known for being the most optimistic industry analyst, which to me makes it no surprise that he doesn't seem to be too happy with how things are going at Nintendo right now. There's no real denying that the Wii U hasn't done quite as well in sales as people had hoped, but as usual Pachter has to take things one step further. He claims that a price cut is more or less the only way that the company will be able to catch up with its competitors.

In some respects, I think while brazen Pachter does have some degree of a point here. The Wii U is definitely a lot more expensive than other offerings from the company, but it may be a little to early to call for a price drop. If in fact Sony and Microsoft push their own machines out at a rate of $400 then yes I think the Wii U will have trouble keeping up, but that has not yet been proven. We'll probably know more on Sony's end by the 20th of this month, but I could see the system heading more towards the $450 mark. This would still place Nintendo just far enough below the the rest where it could be considered the "cheaper alternative" at $350. For me success for the Wii U (or lack of it) is more about games than price. The company needs to start showing third-parties why their system is worth publishing for. With teams jumping ship left and right that doesn't seem to be happening right now. Nintendo has a legacy to uphold with games like Mario and Zelda. If that's all the system can offer however, it will be sitting on shelves for some time. Price may be a concern down the line, but right now it's too early to tell.

That's all I've got for now in this week's One Hacker's Opinion! While there are no news guarantees, talk of the PS4 seems likely as does some more PS3 news. You'll just have to wait till next week to see how the scene plays out. Until then, thanks again for reading!

How do you all feel about the use of 3k3y to play pirated games, or maybe the changing nature of the iOS scene. Are you okay with pirating games? Should we be paying for hacked tweaks?
