 3k3y Gets Ready for It's Official Release

There has been all kinds of love for custom firmware over the past couple months of the PS3 scene, so in some senses that has slowed down some sort of interest in adding new hardware to your system to help improve the overall experience. If there's anything of the sort that has been gaining buzz however, it's the string of optical drive emulators that have the ability to play all kinds of game backups as well as rip them directly to your system. Oh and all that pesky firmware battling stuff? Supposedly for the sweet price of purchase you'll be able to upgrade to any OFW you want once this little beast is installed.

Of course with something this awesome there is an ethical dilemma to at least confront. Do I think such products that make piracy so easy are a good thing to have on the market? This may be a somewhat unpopular stance, but I'm going to have to go with no on this one. I know there are plenty of you in this community that will probably post comments to me saying that you have kids and they wreck your discs, and for those kinds of purposes stuff like this is great. The problem is the majority of people won't be using it for that. Instead they'll be taking money from the pockets of people that work hard to bring us content we love. From a hardware perspective, I think it's awesome that this handy little chip has been made, but I'm not sure how I feel about the possible implications behind it.
