Cameras and Smartphone Control?

So we've got the base hardware and that all seems pretty great, but what's really going to set the system apart from what we see in the PS3 with some slightly different graphics? Many outlets have reported that the PS4 will also feature a dual camera system for interacting with games in a fully 3D way similar to what you now see on the Xbox 360 Kinect. Essentially it is said that this will be an updated build of the PlayStation Eye camera and will feature full 720p resolution as well as 48 Khz sound channels. Supposedly it is said these cameras will also be part of the system at launch. In addition to interacting with games then, facial and speech recognition software is also expected.

With regards to other devices, there have been some sketches revealed that discuss the ability to interact with the PS4 by using a tablet or smartphone. It could be possible then, that a gameplay experience similar to what we see on the Wii U might be possible with hardware that you're already using right now. As seen in other Sony products, this could also be an alternate way to scroll through the various system menus.

My Prediction: All of that looks good to me as well. You can almost bet the next Xbox will have cameras built in, so the PS4 will probably do it too. As for smartphones, I think every developer should be considering how to best utilize portables like that, so this would be at least one way Sony can accomplish that kind of integration.

Remember when Sony bought Gaikai in July? Many analysts are saying you'll begin to see the spoils of that acquisition with PS4!

Since i'm developing a Video Game myself... i got a license with SCEE to get the Developer Kits...

The Developer Kit costs £400, around $450 or $500 i think... and the specs noted in the Developer Kit Notes seems unlikely to sell at $400 as they would lose a lot of money! (contract may change that)

Nice to know. That's kinda why I'm sitting with a $500 price tag right now. I'm hoping it won't be much higher than that... As you probably know, console makers do often take huge losses in the beginning. I think they were losing around $100 on each PS3.

Lame...touchscreen controllers. Does everything need to be ruined by a touch screen. My advice is don't drop or throw your controller, I guarantee that touchscreen will break very easy.

My prediction, this current generation (PS3, Xbox360) is going to be the most popular last-gen systems ever once these next-gen ones roll out.

Friggin' touchscreens  I already want nothing to do with PS4.
