Hardware Specs and Controller

In terms of it's raw horsepower, obviously the next iteration of the PlayStation family is going to have to come in quite strong if it plans to last another six years on the market. Despite all of the power already behind the PS3's cell however, it is very much agreed upon that an AMD x64 processor will make its way into the system alongside a 8GB RAM and a Southern Islands GPU with an addition 2GB of dedicated video memory. All of this will help to support resolutions of up to 4K for those willing to fork over the high amounts of cash to purchase one of those TVs.

With regards to the controller, we've probably all seen the pictures by now. Most reports will tell you that in most cases it looks pretty similar to a Dualshock design except on top of the regulars it will also sport a slightly more rounded overall feel and a rear touch pad to allow for new ways to interact with games. From the images we have seen it also looks like the start and select buttons will be removed possibly in favor of some kind of display. There has also been a lot of chatter about a Share button as well which could allow you to post statuses and videos to various social media outlets such as YouTube and Facebook.

My Prediction: All of this sounds just about right. It's pretty much on par with solid gaming PCs and sticks with Sony's major philosophies of high-res games and bringing console and portable closer together. With a rear touch pad, the cross-play feature would be complete to work with the PlayStation Vita.

So that's the base hardware, but what about add-ons? Check out possible peripherals next!

Since i'm developing a Video Game myself... i got a license with SCEE to get the Developer Kits...

The Developer Kit costs £400, around $450 or $500 i think... and the specs noted in the Developer Kit Notes seems unlikely to sell at $400 as they would lose a lot of money! (contract may change that)

Nice to know. That's kinda why I'm sitting with a $500 price tag right now. I'm hoping it won't be much higher than that... As you probably know, console makers do often take huge losses in the beginning. I think they were losing around $100 on each PS3.

Lame...touchscreen controllers. Does everything need to be ruined by a touch screen. My advice is don't drop or throw your controller, I guarantee that touchscreen will break very easy.

My prediction, this current generation (PS3, Xbox360) is going to be the most popular last-gen systems ever once these next-gen ones roll out.

Friggin' touchscreens  I already want nothing to do with PS4.
