Its is strongly understood in the world of rumours, that the PlayStation 4 and 'Xbox 720' will both be revealed by Sony and Microsoft at this years E3 Expo. However, according to reports from CVG, Sony's next console could be revealed even earlier than E3 in June.
Sony Home Entertainment Vice President Hiroshi Sakamoto spoke to emol.com last week about the situation and hinted at the possibility of an early reveal date for the PlayStation 4.
"That's still a big secret, but our friends are preparing PlayStation. I can only say that we are focused on the E3 gaming event, scheduled for June. [However the] Announcement may be then...or even earlier in May."
The VP then followed this up by saying...
"In that time we expect to deliver great news, but we must wait until May at least."
The translation of the quote is particularly on point, even so it does suggest that not only will Sony's next console feature at this year's E3 but it might be announced even earlier. This is fantastic news for all Sony fans. The PlayStation 3 was released much later than the Xbox 360, which gave Microsoft a huge head start in the market...it could be pay back time for Sony, as they looked to take an early lead in the next gen race.
Let me know your thoughts.

Sony is not going to win merely by releasing weeks ahead of Microsoft. Besides, they were a year behind MS with the PS3 and they did a darn good job of catching up, so they shouldn't bother boasting about releasing before MS this time around. Conceptually, it's not that tough for Sony. They just have to release a good console at a decent price with decent first party games and make it easy for 3rd parties to develop to.

They will need that extra time to gain more sales in North America, because that is where the Xbox 360 still out sells the PlayStation 3. I'm not saying that they will release the PS4 before the 720 just because someone from Sony said they will, however it will certainly give them the advantage they could have used with the first time around, rather than playing catch up for 3/4 years.
