Next generation consoles are all the talk at the moment, however information doesn't come much more interesting than this... Kotaku came out with some pretty interesting information the other day regarding Sonys next generation console and it looks promising. The PlayStation 4s development seems to be in full flow now and the codename Sony has given it is –drum roll -...Orbis! It would seem that Kotaku have some good inside information about the Orbis project and according to the news website, the next generation console will feature an AMD x64 CPU and an AMD Southern Islands GPU, as well as this it will be capable of up to 4096x2160 resolution. Along with this will be the obvious and assumed compatibility with 3D and High Definition gaming. According to this report, the PlayStation 4 will have the same downfall that the PlayStation 3 had; it wont be offering backward compatibility with PS3 games. WTF Sony?! People bitched and moaned about the fact that the PS3 couldnt play PS2 games and now Sony are doing it again, this is a poor move on Sonys behalf. Not only this but apparently the console will include anti-used game measures, we are currently unsure of what these are though. Some studios have reportedly been receiving PS4 dev kits since the beginning of the year. Let me know your thoughts.

It's hard to develop games on PS3 with its horrible Cell processor. I don't think they want to go through that again. It's not really possible to emulate PS3 games with a different type of processor. I also don't think Sony will use a x64 CPU. I forgot what the reason was but there's a reason why consoles don't use AMD or Intel CPUs. They'll probably continue to use IBM CPUs like all the other consoles currently do.

You will buy it for sure, if the games are outstanding. About the rumors, why they are using AMD? No NVidia GPU? It seems to be fake though. I love to hear other peoples opinions as well. About the anti-used games, I heard the same rumor aboout the next XBox

Sony is pre-shooting themselves in the foot before the console is even out, I LOVE IT! I hope Sony fails andstops making consoles. They are just being dicks now.
But the No PS3 support makes sense if they're moving to an AMD64 architecture from PPC Cell. We still don't have to like it though. -_-

i think its safe to assume that the PS4 will likely be the next step in being an internet media only device. My point comes from two pieces of evidence, not ps3 backwards compatible (likely because it has no optical drive) and you cannot play pre-owned games (everything is downloaded from the internet so there is NO physical disc pre owned game to sell..) This is going to happen all over the world with everything in the near future. look at psp go and vita for example.. a d androids and ipods.. u dont have a physical drive u download your games am i correct? lets just hope they use a solid state drive to everything runs incredibly fast
of course have a regular hdd to store larger stuff but give u the option to install ro solid state.. anyways thats my theory.

Looks like i wont be buying it either... that is bullshit. I had always liked Sony's products but Sony is being stupid with their new upcoming products. They should know that their new consoles should be able to play old games, that way they gain more PS fans. As far as i know it ill stick to my two PS3's that i have. My Online console, and my jaibroken console for my retro games...

I agree with you, I bet the 720 will be around half the cost of the PS4 as well, but with equal graphic capabilities. Plus I prefer the ergonomic design of xbox controllers over PS controllers. With the current gen consoles I prefer the PS3 for multi-media (without the DRM 'protection' of course) but I prefer using the 360 for games unless it is only supported on PS3. The xbox 720 will most likely be incompatible with with xbox 360 games as well, unless they are very kind to us and provide some software emulation. I doubt Microsoft will enforce any 'anti-used game measures' on 720. I'm sure the Mega Million$ they make from XBL will compensate for that. That would probably push more fans to Xbox. We will have to see though. I just hope they improve their shocking reliability records, both companies should be ashamed of the last 5 years of console reliability (I should know, I've been fixing them full time since 2004).

well actually AMD cpu and anti-used games seem kinda weird, amd and intel arent good for gaming like PPC or MIPS are, X64? the ps3 itself has 256 bits, the ps2 has 128, the N64 had 64, do you see the difference?, so this seems more like a rumor than actual facts, lets wait and see.

I've been reading everything I can get ahold of on the Orbis and everything says the same thing, x64 AMD CPU, and they are claiming that the reason for no PS3 games on the console.

360 uses a Zenon that was Designed by IBM but guess who makes it?????? AMD and ATIC... The Cell isn't that hard to program for anymore everyone has done their homework now.

If PPC or MIPS is better than x86_64 why in console BattleField3 can play 12x12 and in PC is 32x32?
