XMB File Manager Beta by DeViL303

PlayStation 3 developer DeViL303 released XMB File Manager a day ago. Today he has released an updated beta version 0.03D and 0.03R. A little more regarding the version numbers in a bit.

What is this and how is it beneficial to those using custom firmware?

XMBFM is a dev_flash mod and in it's initial release could only be used on Rebug 3.55.2 custom firmware. Using XMBFM allows you to browse the entire PS3 file system via the PS3's XMB therefore not requiring a third party application to do so. You can also delete files using this mod.

Will it work on Kmeaw and other custom firmware?

Yes, Rebug 3.55.2, Kmeaw 3.55 and even Official 3.55. With the latest release there is a zip file containing two zipped folders, take note at there version numbers.

• v0.03D is for Debug Rebug Menu
• v0.03R is for 3.55 OFW, Kmeaw & Retail Rebug Menu 

Will I brick my PlayStation 3?

No. But! Using this mod allows you to delete files and even PS3 system files, if you delete something that you are not supposed to a brick or system failure is possible. However the developer does state the following.

This is perfectly safe and I have even tested deleting most of dev_flash before and its easy, reinstall FW through recovery menu so dont worry.

WARNING: DeViL303, ps3.dashhacks.com and I am not responsible for anything that may cause your system to fail. You take responsibility for deleting any files on your PS3 console. If you don't know what a file is and is used for, leave it alone.

How do I install XMBFM?

It requires you to switch 2 files from dev_flash:

• Use multiman by selecting the mount dev_flash to dev_blind option.
• Then copy over the 2 files to thier locations.
• category_game.xml goes in dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/
• explore_plugin_full.rco goes in dev_blind/vsh/resource/

What does "Unlink" mean?

This should be corrected. Unlink means delete.

Gonna Change the suffix next time a its confussing because R could be for Rebug but it not, it should work on any 3.55 retail xmb, 3.55 kmeaw , 3.55 Official FW, rebug 3.55 retail xmb(in rebug mode) etc.

Sorry, 0.03 wasnt going to get released, 0.04 was supposed to be the first pkg version but we had a problem with the pkg so I released 0.03 instead. It's the very same as 0.04 was going to be its just not in a package. 0.03 even says 0.04 it the xmb.

For those of you who prefer a easy install you can wait for a future release that will auto install via PKG format.
