Sony's 3D Support Continues

Submitted by UnashamedVandal; August 18, 2012

Lets face it, 3D gaming is a novelty that many of us havent had a chance to experience. Despite this, Sony continues to support the 3D cause.

The 3D scene away from general TV and Cinema has been a very slow development, specifically in the gaming world. 3D games are a rarity and often lack support from many developers, however Sony have a different attitude to the situation.

Although 3D games arent a necessity, it is something that can be used in the right situations and this is something that Jim Ryan (CEO of Sony Entertainment America) understands. Ryan was questioned about the lack of 3D technology used within Sony titles recently. Ryans response was positive towards the cause and he told fans not to read too much into the recent minimal support, as there are still plans for 3D in the near future of gaming.

Away from the PlayStation 3, Sony has invested hugely into TV's and more recently 3D TVs, so there is no reason to assume 3D gaming is out of the picture.

I dont often play in 3D but the game I play the most is GT5 which in 3D looks really good... If you have a 3D TV then its very good fun!!! It adds a completly new feel to the games!!!

Hope there are more games in the near future.

I would think that making 3D content in video games is easier than for TV/movies.  The 3D cameras are bulky and cumbersome and editing 3D TV/movies is very difficult.  I'm not saying 3D is a snap in video games, but I would think the right game engine or middle-ware could do a lot of the heavy lifting.

I can really recommend playing in 3D

Games like Crysis (2), GT5, U3 or CoD BO are awesome when playing in 3D mode

But for one game i(Child of Eden) it is a pain playing with the 3D mode -->disabled

Playing in 3D is awesome.I think Sonic Generations looks amazing.. R-type Dimensions is another fun 1 too.Ridge Racer7 3D is pretty hard though, its pretty hard drift racing in 3D...GT5 was pretty good. As for movies, they really very on how well they look. Darkest Hour was pretty good with its special effects and Resident Evil Afterlife didnt seem all that 3D.. All games or animated movies & cartoons will never let you down when it comes to 3D so Im glad to hear Sony wants to pursue 3D.
