Its been a while since we discussed any rumors about the PS4 but hey, I like to gossip, so gather around the water cooler and lets get down to it shall we?
Word on the street is that a certain website has got their hands on the hardware specs for the upcoming PS4 ahead of schedule. As always without any real statement from Sony to play confirm or deny with we have to take this with a grain of salt as it could just be a website trying to increases its traffic… who knows. Anyway lets take a look at these 'rumored PS4' details so you can make up your own mind on whether or not its the real deal.
In exclusive we have the detailed first specs (not final) for PS4, most likely first alpha kits sent to developers:
TLDR SPECS
CPU
- 4 core (2 core pairs) 3.2 GHz AMD x86 (Steamroller)
- aggregate, 10x PS3 PPU performance
- 512 KByte L2 per core pair
- 64 bit pointers
GPU
- AMD R10x series GPU @ 800 MHz (Tahiti)
- aggregate 10x RSX performance, 1.84 TFlops
- DX11.5?
- cheap branching
- 18 compute units, focus on fine grained compute & tessellation
MEMORY:
- 2 GByte UMA, pushing for 4 GByte
- 192 GByte/ sec non-coherent access for e.g. GPU
- 12 GByte/ sec coherent access for CPU
- >50% longer memory latency for CPU/ GPU compared to PC!!!
- DXT is lowest bpp texture compression format
MEDIA:
- 50 GByte BD drive
- PCAV, between 3.3 and 8x BD, most likely clamped to 6x
- automatic background caching to HDD
- HDD SKU with at least 380 GByte
- downloadable games
EXTRA HARDWARE:
- video encoder/ decoder
- audio processing unit, ~200 concurrent MP3 streams
- HW zlib decompressor
Our source claims that the final specs should be 10x powerful than PS3, due to this info has got 10 months.
What do you guys think? Do these look like the real PS4 specs?

Good lord, I hope not.

DX 11.5 ?
why microsoft will let sony use his technology?
this have no sense, ps should use modified version of opengl

If you want the system to run at 1000 degrees sure go with all nvidia and intel stuff. People dont seem to realize that AMD/ATI has very very good video cards and processors. The equally powered cards from ATI cost hundreds less than stuff from nvidia. So many people jumped on the nvidia bandwagon cause of the GTX series of cards. They are overpriced, run really really really hot and dont actually perform as well as people think.

It's only bad if the system relies a lot on actual computer processing. But since it's a game system, it will be more geared toward the GPU than anything else, in which case, AMD isn't so bad. Also, if they do end up with an AMD CPU, it's not going to be like your standard Phenom or whatever CPU, but one customized and geared toward whatever the PS4 demands, which, again, since it's a system dedicated moreso for gaming than anything else, won't be a big deal. It probably doesn't even need a dual-core CPU for what it needs to do, unless Sony puts in some multitasking. Though I don't blame you for putting down AMD on account of their recent failure with their FX-series chips.

why not x64?

You must think of the price be for you say AMD is a bad idea to implement in the PS4, how much do u think it will cost if they chose Intel?

According to the specs on Wikipedia, the lowest version of Tahiti is the Radeon 7950, which has an 800 Mhz core and capable of 2867.2 GFLOPS, which would be 2.87 TFLOPS. Perhaps a typo on the TFLOP, or they are using an AMD Pitcairn GPU, like the Radeon 7850, but I believe it is something else.
Since Steamroller (like Piledriver and other Bulldozer APU's) will incorporate both a CPU and GPU, it's very likely there will be no discreet GPU, but rather the above specs are for the video portion of the APU. This will also make it easier to implement sharing the 2 GB of RAM between system and video.
I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft does something very similiar to this.

I think Sony are pretty much married to the CELL processor, so swapping to AMD is, I think, not going to happen.
As for the rest of it, it all looks pretty pedestrian to be honest, 2-4gb memory? I would have thought more like 12 -16gb. With the advent of home 64 bit OS use addressing memory over 4gb is far more common place, to limit themselves against the PC/Laptop and Xbox/MS markets would be suicide.
Besides memory (IMHO) is THE limiting factor for games consoles, if they haven't learned their lesson by now then they deserve to fail.
Graphics, AMD/ATI? don't know, it's possible I suppose?

These specs are obviously fake.
They make little to no sense, and would in most cases be a huge downgrade from what they use now.

everything seems legit, and the final system will probably use 4gb, but why 1.8tflop tahiti? a true tahiti xt2 is arount 4.4tflops. i hope sony uses a full tahiti xt2, rather than this toned down tahiti

I think consoles can get away with less memory because the OS has limited features and is a closed system. But 2 GB does seem meager, especially if they go with AMD, which seems more likely than not. The Cell was an interesting concept, but apparently tough to code for. And given that many 3rd parties release on multiple platforms, making it more similiar to PC's should make it easier to port games and deliver a more consistent gaming exoerience (especially for Bethesda, which usually does poorly on PS3 ports)

I do believe it will use an amd64 chip with 4gb ram and a built in the CPU graphics card.
I hope it doesn't come with a hard drive, Xbox games can work without one.
