PS3 RSOD Fix Released Via GameOs & Linux

Submitted by Tranced_1; January 30, 2012

The time has come for those of you holding onto your RSOD PlayStation 3's to try another method in hopes of reviving a system you hold so dear. Some developers have released a tool that could potentially fix your RSOD PS3 via GameOS or Linux.

All you need to do is get into the recovery menu, go to system update and update your system using the update file provided below. Once done you go to install package files and install the rsodfix.gnpdrm.pkg. After this you can flash any firmware you want but please note that if the RSOD returns then it is hardware related and this soft fix cannot help you.

Observations about RSOD:

  • Seems to appear mostly on consoles with Samsung NORS (CECHL**-CECH20**)
  • May be caused by an error being thrown while writing to NOR (this is theory) Mostly caused by a corrupt area of flash called VTRM

Steps from GameOS:

  1. Install the NORSOD patched PUP so that you can boot.
  2. Install the rsodfix.gnpdrm.pkg package, and run it from XMB
  3. Run rsodfix.
  4. Reboot and install whatever firmware you want
Steps from Linux:
  • ps3dm_vtrm /dev/ps3dmproxy init

If you would like to show your support for this, please donate to this wiki.

This only works on CFW, there is no custom pkg support for OFW>3.55. And it's likely to be a downgrade method, once pkg can be signed on OFW there are easier methods to downgrade. Event though I highly doubt this will happen
