PS3 Hits 30 Million!

Not Sony’s entire PAL territories reside within Europe, however a vast majority of them do. It is these PAL territories that have managed to accumulate a spectacular 30 million sales for the Japanese gaming giants. Sony released a statement claiming that their most popular console reached this grand total just 4 days ago, on the 17th of December. The PlayStation is comfortably ahead on sales within its PAL territories, however in the USA; the Xbox 360 is king and therefore evens out the worldwide sales between the two consoles, with the PlayStation at a slight advantage for some time now.

 

However, SCEE CEO Jim Ryan believes that the consoles sales will increase over the Christmas period, with Nintendo’s console in transmission, he suggests that the PlayStation will be more appealing to the ‘casual’ gamer. Basically, Ryan believes that the Wii is on its way out with the introduction of the Wii U and that at first, many Wii U sales will only come from die hard fans, leaving many consumers with a choice to make between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

it was already said by microsoft itself that the 360 is not doing well and like this article says the wii u is for die hard fans, which is not very common, imo this and the next year will be a good year for the ps3 and that's why sony doesn't want to push the ps4 out

Well of course the WiiU right now is only valuable to hardcore Nintendo fans. And much like Sony, Nintendo is apparently taking a page and releasing (in select markets) a Wii mini as well, to get some people started and just provide a very budget-oriented Wii experience.

I still don't get how Sony claims that PS3 will appeal to 'casual' players now, since a great number of games for PS3 still won't output at 1080p, whereas the Xbox will output every game at 1080p. Sure, the PS3 supports 3D gaming and movies, but that would pretty much only be relevant to more 'core' gamers and movie buffs that already had a 3D TV in the cards or at home already.

I find it ironic how it is the EU region where the PS3 leads, considering that Sony never gave them a full-BC model to work with. The reason Sony never got a lead in the states was because everyone thought they were nuts to charge $600 for a console. Full featured as it may be, it definitely looked and felt like an abortion for the first couple of years. :-*

Sony had almost 80% of the market with the PS2 and now is struggling to get 30% with The PS3. I dont see how this is a victory. Bring The PS4, because The PS3 battle is already lost.

so EU loves the ps3 huh? maybe thats why i love it so much then ..im orginaly from there... although i love certain things about the 360 and mainly a few games from the wii
sony is my favorite console and handheld maker it may remain that way until i stop gaming :)
