Portal 2 at Top of Associated Press's Top 10 Games of 2011

The Associated Press has released their list of the top 10 games of 2011. Let's take a look at what they have to say.

The Associated Press is a sprawling group of people and this list is not a collection of opinions from those people, who are without a doubt mostly not gamers. No, this is a list that is largely the opinion of one man, Lou Kesten. That being said, this is a pretty good list.

10) Dead Space 2

9) Rayman Origins

8) Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

7) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

6) InFamous 2

5) Batman: Arkham City

4) Bastion

3) Deus Ex: Human Evolution

2) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

1) Portal 2

Amazingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 did not make the list. I'm not saying that it should, but it's surprising given its popularity. Of course, popularity does not always equal quality.

That said, it's good to see Valve getting some love. Portal 2 was a masterpiece. The developers of this game proved that they are innovative and creative people that can put together an engaging game that makes you think, rather than react.

Everything else on the list looks well-placed and it's also nice to see some downloadable games like Bastion get recognized as well.
