The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one really, really successful game, but PS3 users have been tearing their hair out over the lag and other problems the game has. Guess what? Bethesda knew about it all along but released it anyway.
The Chief Game Designer at Bethesda, Todd Howard, recently told Kotaku as much, essentially saying that they thought it would only affect a small margin of players who did very specific things within the game, like hotkeying certain spells or going within certain buildings, or any combination thereof.
While at one time it was thought that the issues were all about saved game file sizes, that's not the case. Howard says it's all about memory and the order in which you do things and the like. He said they tried to clear up the issue pre-release but they couldn't get it done.
So they released it into the wild.
Howard says the 1.2 patch solved much of the problems, but they're still looking at save games that players have submitted to them and trying to figure out what's causing the problems and how they can fix it.
Yikes.

I guess PS3 is too advanced for them

Whatever the heck happened to making a game that actually works before you freaking sell it? Games devs have gotten so greedy and so lazy. *sigh*

Whats all the fuss about? I mean i have skyrim for the ps3, but very little does it lag, in odd places, yes but nothing major. Really dosent effect the whole game :L

It does work.. infact fucking brilliant for the system it was designed for :P.
PC gaming is where its at for the Elder Scrolls series and i wish they didnt take time away from development to put it on the PS3/XBOX.. dont get me wrong i love my Ps3 but this is one game they should never have been put on consoles.. its bad enough some of the Xbox settings made it to the PC version (and are on by default).. that really ticked me off

*Sigh* Why do people comment without even putting variables into consideration?
First off, there are two different departments of Bethesda: Bethesda Game Studios, which handles game development, and Bethesda Softworks, which handles publishing. If Bethesda Softworks tells the programmers and artists at Bethesda Game Studios to pump out a game by X date for X systems, then Bethesda Game Studios is now obligated to uphold that release window. So no, it's not necessarily Bethesda Game Studios that's at fault, but rather the higher-ups Bethesda Softworks, for pushing the date and letting the game go out onto the PC, 360 and PS3, regardless of whatever problems might have been plaguing one of those systems.
Second: There are developers out there that have expressed their frustration when it comes to developing a game for the PS3 because of its complex infrastructure. It's the reason why many good titles weren't seen being released on the system until its third year. It's only natural that the PS3 version of any game is likely to be more buggy than that of a 360 or PC counterpart.
Third: Remember that Bethesda is a business. From a business perspective, it might have been more beneficial for them to release it at the same time as their counterparts and make the fixes later than to wait until late January or early February to release it. Either way, you'd have pissed off PS3 consumers bitching and moaning that Bethesda doesn't "care about them" and what not. Remember, not everyone has been experiencing the same problems with lag that others are. In fact, editor sites like IGN, Gamespot, etc probably try to make it seem worse than it is. So when you compare the actual number of users who ARE having these problems to the number of users that would be frustrated for having to wait for a PS3 release, the decision to release the game sooner rather than later is clearly more beneficial.
And honestly, how many of you could honestly say that you could have done a better job in terms of development? Game developers work hard, long hours just so that they can pump out a game within a certain release window. They are PRESSURED to do it by their higher-ups, which means they don't always have time to sort out a large number of kinks are exist in the initial release. Programming takes a lot of time and effort. If you people honestly think you can do a better job, then honestly, I'd like to see you try. But don't go blaming the people who have actually worked countless hours developing the game and fixing it for YOU to play. Place the blame on the ones responsible for putting the pressure on them to release a game that they knew would have those issues for a piece of hardware that has already been known to be difficult to develop for so that one group of potential players wouldn't feel left out.
First world problems. I tell ya.

Actually no it means the PS3 can't handle the game or rather the way the engine does things. So it has nothing to do with how "advanced" the machine is, and more to do with how the machine handles code, etc.

it also doesnt run really smoothly on the 360 though =\ only on pc it runs fine..

I don't believe that because I've played every style you can and I've unlocked all the perks on different files except block and two-handed. The thing that seems to cause the lag is the graphics card getting too hot. I play in 480p and don't have lag issues but after playing for several hours textures don't even load at all. It starts out very minor after about 4 1/2 hours of playing, then about 6 hours in the issue gets much worse and the majority of the picture is glitched but the fps are still okay, kind of like how conjuring atronachs in the theives guild or turning into a werewolf in the theives guild causes issues, there's simply too many instructions for the ram to process simultaneously when you have a crowd of people stirred up and multiple sound files playing over and over. When I turn it off and back on later, no more issues. I'm running the original game without patches. Turn your playstation settings to 480p and zoom in on your tv. It looks a little rough around the edges but it's still pretty good for the most part, also refrain from buying more than 1 house, don't let followers follow you and travel skyrim during the night or as little as you have to, I think something about the various levels of shading and more people and animals moving around causes traveling and background to lag, there's just not enough memory bottom line. It would take a year and a half to fix Skyrim for the ps3 and it's probably only going to get half done unless downloadable content or expansions come out. They might as well omit making them for ps3 because it'll only cause more problems.
