In the latest dev diary for Prototype 2, the guys at Radical Entertainment show us a bit more of what is now known as New York Zero in the aftermath of the first Prototype game. This time around, you'll be playing new protagonist Marine Sergeant James Heller. James has been infected with the variant of the Blacklight Virus that created Alex Mercer in the first game, and he is looking to hunt down and destroy Mercer.
New York Zero is divided into three zones that will open up linearly as you play the game. You'll start out in the Yellow Zone, where the oppression of the government's Blackwatch soldiers can be felt and seen in the eyes of every citizen as they try to survive amongst the infected and even more monstrous mutants that the virus has created. You'll also get to explore the Green Zone, where there is enough of a military presence that people still walk around trying to live normal lives, and the Red Zone, where the infected completely rule and mutate out of control.
The first Prototype was a wide-open sandbox that felt like a superhero game done right, despite not being a superhero game, and Prototype looks like more of the same to the Nth degree. Prototype 2 is due to release on April 24, 2012.
