New Battleship: The Video Gamer Trailer - Who Thought This Was a Good Idea Again?

It's a video game of a movie of a boardgame. It combines an FPS with tactical sea battles. Uh-huh.

Every action movie worth its salt has a video game tie-in/cash-in these days, and the upcoming Battleship movie is no exception. Of course, instead of just tired old sea battles (which don't really happen in modern warfare anymore) we have fricking aliens invading, somehow via the sea.

In Battleship, you'll be playing as Cole Mathis, a US Navy elite specialist, and you'll have a fair amount of first-person shooting to do, but the other half of the game will be tactical sea battles. Apparently, both styles will have an effect on each other somehow.

The vid below doesn't look horrible, I suppose, but that "Not Actual Game Footage" disclaimer at the beginning doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Battleship will be out in Europe on April 20th and in the US on May 15th.
