Ive been pretty outspoken about my hatred for Call of Duty and the fact Activision refuse to reinvent themselves with every release. However, were here to talk about Battlefield 3, not that other game. Bare with me as I pick out some finer points of this game so that I can hopefully give you an insight to my opinion of this potential Game of the Year candidate.
Well get started with the basics; the title right from the start looks and feels great. The menu and title screen really get straight to the point and will attract most shooter fans to jump into the campaign and multiplayer. I know title screens are cool in all but its not part of the actual gameplay so want know how that is?
The gameplay is accurate and spectacular and whilst most shooter stories arent great – This is the same. Despite that, every environment feels real. The trees brush side to side as if there is wind and the lighting is truly phenomenal. The Frostbite 2 engine is basically the improvement that I would have loved to see on a more popular franchise like Call of Duty.
Theres something that I genuinely dig aside from the realistic look and accuracy of everything in this game and that is sound effects. The sound and the music makes this game the most cinematic and authentic game Ive seen since the original Modern Warfare. Gunfire and vehicles sound great, and the grenade explosions always send shivers down my spine.
Enemies are also a lot smarter than other shooters; enemies will react to your position during a mission and do their best to fuck you over depending on the difficulty you play on. Hard mode is actually pretty hard and I know Dashhacks resident writer, Demonchild has also struggled on certain missions - As have I. The games AI allows a swift increase of difficulty in each scenario - And dont worry guys, despite this increase in difficulty; enemies wont decide to spam multiple grenades your way to ensure your demise – The game is intended to be a lot more tactical than that.
This game is by far the most tactical game I have ever played; even the online is based on tactics. Something I learnt during my first multiplayer session is that, if you think you are Rambo in other shooters multiplayer modes, then you will be receiving a bullet to the face in Battlefield 3. To give you an idea, my friend has prestige many a times on Call of Duty, yet he is barely getting kills in this game by using those same tactics. I like the reward system for guns and attachments because even with these new rewards, the game doesnt get much easier for the player, In other words; the game is pretty balanced.
The online for me looks phenomenal and the graphics are great. The size of the maps is insanely big but provides versatile landscapes so that multiple tactics can be used. This makes the game extremely enjoyable online and I can find myself playing the game just for its online for an extremely long time.
I can only say so much more about Battlefield 3 but its still not enough to give this game the justice it deserves. This game plays, looks and feels like an authentic tactical shooter and in my opinion its the best of its kind right now. Sure its not the best – But no game usually is and that includes other shooters. Activision and its developers should be worried because this game definitely has the potential to be a fan favorite this year.
My verdict is that this game is easily worth a purchase but if you are saving up for Modern Warfare 3, then you should invest in this title beforehand. By all means, this isnt a review but I am genuinely telling you all to buy this game - It sets a whole new bar for shooters to come in the future.
Hope you enjoyed the read.

The multiplayer is broken and the singleplayer is boring.
This is not the game of the year, nor is Call of Duty.

Just to clarify things, i am not young and my spelling is flawed because i am french. I used to love Call Of Duty, until Black Ops. I was one of the fools to be influenced in to buying this game, which is extremely boring in my opinion. I have a great connection, yet i am kicked out of lobbies 3:10 games which sucks. The game feels extremely slow, sluggish, etc on console. Ranking up is ultimately best described as boring. In the end, i would rate the multiplayer aspect of the game 4.5/10. As for the campaign, i totally agree with what you have described.

Nice review. I'm really looking forward to it. The graphics are truly amazing.
Going to give the campaign a go in a minute, thanks to Team DUPLEX for releasing the 3.55 eboot patch earlier :)

The Campaign is a joke. It doesn't deserve to be even discussed. The Multiplayer is full of minor bugs and glitches, which wouldn't bother me if they didn't affect the actual gameplay (the jumping, stance changing, hit detection, collision boxes, etc.)
It's great, yes. It is beautiful, yes. It has great multiplayer, yes. But the screw ups are a bit too much (mostly with the campaign), so I can't qualify it as GOTY...
I'm not saying MW3 will be better... These are 2 totally different games, which cannot be compared... and it doesn't matter how much people try to compete them with each other.
