Last week we also talked about consoles as a means of hardware, but in case you weren't there I will sort of recap what was said. Compared to something like a PC, consoles don't carry quite as much in terms of raw processing power. Sure the PS3's Cell has the ability to take down plenty of PCs out there, but with specs mostly trimmed down there's no way it could put out quite as much. In a lot of ways the same can be said about tablets. They are a source of much more refined power, and in many cases the specs actually match for now. Well known industry sources say that Apple's new A6 chip specifically is on par with the Xbox 360, so in a lot of ways you are going to be able to run the same type of content if developer's make it.

The next thing you have to think about though is that the console business is in a major year of maturity. Some of these machines were made seven years ago. That's not to say they're any less powerful, but you and I both know once the supposed PS4s and Xbox 720s of the world are announced, they'll be able to blow away anything you see on a tablet right now. Not to mention despite some of these high specs depending on your model tablets still don't really offer an entirely seamless computing experience. In any and all cases, console hardware for me has always done what I wanted it to do, which makes it a winner in my mind by a narrow margin at least.
Winner: Consoles
Next up, we'll see which machines are more innovative!

A console like the Vita has the potential of being both a mini tablet and a console, but sony failed in doing this the moment they decided to make PSM paid. On the other hand, I'm ok with what the Ps3 offers, a console + a multimedia player, sure it lacks some codecs, but most used ones are there, and youtube works like a charm for me, so no problem for me there, and like you said, I mostly turn my ps3 on to play games, not much more, but when I turn the vita on sometimes I wish I could do more stuff with it.

But its funny how nintendo copy the tablet concept thats popular then force it as a primary console controller which again sucks balls, wii dont want to tap tap tap, wii dont want to move a slab arround to view an environment, the iFAD has no use at all for gaming, but nintendo just wanted to print money off a idea that is selling well for other comanies not thinking that it hasnt really got much use when it comes to gaming consoles.... but all they care about is PRINTING MONEY from releasing last gen systems again.
