BF3 and MW3 - The Same Game?

"If you look at awareness they're not quite up there with the likes of Star Wars or Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings," Cheliotis said. "Outside of the real keen gamers there's a bit of confusion between different types of game franchises. For those that are part-time gamers or loosely interested but not necessarily real keen players, they mould a little bit into one. With the latest release, they say, 'Is that part of that franchise or is it that one? I really can't remember.'"
OK, well maybe he has a point on that one. To the untrained eye MW3 and BF3 are pretty much the same. But with MW3 exceeding the worldwide box office sales of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and making more money in its opening week than all those Harry Potter movies, one has to think that the Call of Duty franchise has discovered a certain niche. Sure, it's a tad generic, but in many ways that's the appeal. It's mindless fun - stripped down so that just about anyone can understand it. There's no crazy magic, futuristic sci-fi tech, or dense gameplay to understand. Anyone with a modicum of understanding about gaming can get into any Call of Duty game if they want to. And it's done oh so well.
Cheliotis offers some suggestions for greater brand identification to appeal to a wider audience, but does warn about diluting the message so much that the game becomes too generic, so he recognizes the difficult path of branding. What do you think? Does this guy know what he's talking about?

The only reason MW3 had massive sales on its release day is because ever since the modern warfare sub-series started a huge amount of people became idiots who thought "OMfG MOrdEn WeRFar IS Teh BEst GAEm EVAR!" or "CoD Is ONly GamE iN WOrlD!" and thus bought more of it because they're stupid and can't see past the facade. It really isn't a new game, just the old one with new maps, weapons and stuff which they wave in your face to make you think it is.
Not to say everyone who plays CoD is an idiot. Just the majority of the ones i've met are.
If you're going to compare Battlefield to Call of Duty MW3, it's likely someone who hasn't played games before is going to think they look the same, yes. But the same could be said for comparing any two RTS games - i've once had someone ask if what I was playing was "Age of Empires" when I was playing a Total War game.
Also this article's title is misleading. Nowhere in it is the word "Battlefield" used.

i knew mw3 would be very simialer to prevous cods but that is what i wanted
i wanted cod with new weapons new maps and a few features it was
missing and a what i got was exsactly that i happlyed paid thge $47 for
MW3 even though i only like its multi player i tried the campaing of
battlefield i didnt like it (it had a few glithches that kept anoying
me) but i played it all the way though (on eassy cause i rented from red
box) then when i got MW3 i started to play that campain i jest quite it
wasnt worth it but i still like the multi player (so what im saying is
BF3 campaign sucked but MW3 and Black ops campaign sucked even more but i
still find MW3 to be worth it for the multi player even thow it is
simalar to prevous titles i happen to like the same shit they are
selling :)

COD became popular as an alternative to CS:SOURCE. Once you get a playerbase, pros and sponsers like that to jump ship onto a console over PC, you suddenly get masses of people playing due to the awesome availability of console gaming.
After that theres no stop, they will follow that francise until the next one arrives. I just pray to god it will be unreal tournament over COD\CS:S. (that game should be way better than any of these POS's)

Ok I understand COD series have had a lot of nonsense with online play (lag hack etc.), but seriously YOU are the IDIOT who thinks all COD games are the same. You probably wouldn't understand the difference from one COD to another if it hit you in the face. The game modes, maps, guns, perks, kill/death streaks, AWESOME STORY MODE (if you played it). Gun states keep changing, perks keep changing save the primary ones, kill/death streaks are all changed. Some COD's have game modes that are addicting (GUN GAME in COD Black Ops). so if your idea of COD is that they're all the same then you probably need to be told difference basketball and football. or perhaps a ps3 or xbox. would surprise me if your sticking the wrong disc in the wrong consol with your understanding of games.
