Apple > Sony?!

Today Apple made an announcement that will blow fans eyes out of their head Warner Brothers style. At a press conference in San Francisco today Apple officially announced a released date for their new iPad which looks to be friggin sweet, the new and bigger iPad will hit stores on March 16th for a steep price of $499. Although Apple seems to charge ludicrous amounts for their devices which do seem completely unjustifiable, they may now have a reason for these costs. After the announcement today, Epic Games made a pretty important urge to console developers like Sony, and that is to make the next generation of consoles as advanced as possible. Let me break it down for you. You see, it has been proven that Apples latest iPad will in fact be more powerful than your PlayStation 3 and/or Xbox 360 system...oh dear. Epic were not happy about this and have pleaded to Sony and to and extent Microsoft, to max out their new consoles or Apple will dominate the market. The new iPad is set to include a retina display screen that is 9.7 inches, as well as this it is going to be thicker than its predecessor by 0.6mm, making it 9.4mm. Other features include a 2048 x 1536 resolution, an A5x chip with quad-core graphics and a 5MP camera that supports 1080p video recording...damn! Let me know your thoughts.

Yeah but it eill still be limited to what apple can offer, or what you do with your jailbreak. My reason for not buying apple products. The ipad wont have such a huge reach of games, and ffs it will run on apple's crappy mac-based-kernel os(x)... No one will chose it over an xbox or a ps3 as they are totally different things. The ipad isnt even a gaming console. So it cant dominate the market.

I'm sorry but Apple will never dominate the market with a tablet if it is going against gaming consoles.
In my opinion a gaming console can have an upgraded processor to compete with the A5X.
A retina display would only work if you created new TV's for the consoles so that is irrelevant as is the camera, the PS3 has the Playstation Eye which allows you to play games and video chat with other friends. The Xbox 360 has the Kinnect system, I know it's used for games but I myself do not own an Xbox so I don't know all of the details.
The iPad 3 may be able to dominate the tablet market but it will not dominate the game CONSOLE market.

Maybe its apple's "Fantastic" apple TV product that will kill the PS3/360. LOL

It won't dominate the game market because of its price - sony need to be able to make their console affordable, it doesn't make any sense for them to spend millions on creating a console that 80% of people can't/won't buy.
Also: No damn buttons.

For me, Apple can not dominate the game console market in near future. However, no one know what will happen in the future

I don't think Apple will be dominating the gaming market too soon. I'm not sure I could handle it if such time came. Asking me to accept Apple as a dominion in the gaming market is like asking me to accept catholoicism (no offense intended to any of you catholics out there). But with these specs, I would not be surprised if they intended to use it to enter the competition. That being said, maybe Apple will be a force that drives its competitors and game developers to explore new possibilities.

Yeah I see where your coming from. People will find it difficult to take the iPad seriously as a competitior in the gaming market, plus next generation console will probably smash the iPad when it comes to hardware.

True, it is unpredictable. However I can't imagine people taking a touch screen device seriously as a gaming console, people will always need some form of controller to have full control of a game. Don't you agree?

Actually this will never happen.Its not likely that ipad 3 will take over.Unless it has hdmi out into tv(which must work properly which i doubt) and a really good control system for games without patent infringment.

There is HDMI out from iPad using special converter which is availble in any multimedia store. U mad bro?

Ipad could be connected to a HDMI TV as a console(or work wireless "mirroring"), could handle bluetooth controlers, the only limitant its may be the media device to read games, because even its 64gb of hdd space (solid state faster than normal hdd) downloading games like the ones we use on PS3 and Xbox are betwen 5gb and 15gb could be frustrating. Its amazing the xbox and ps3 with 6 years in the market continue being something amazing, but dont understimate Ipad, because as I sayd it could do what consoles do, and lot more things being more useful than a Vita or DS. And more powerfull than an actual console.

2 different classes of electronics but if the ipad comes with a hdmi port which can connect to the tv and a bluetooth controller thats a different story. It can have that advantage cus every year its hardware is constantly upgraded so i don't know that might be true later, what if it can run the same games that run on ps3 or xbox with a better user interface?

I don't see how Epic can say the new iPad is proven more powerful than a PS3 or 360??? If you look at it's CPU and GPU specs it isn't anywhere close to being able to do the same kind of calculations as quickly as the PS3s Cell or the 360s Xenon. Or am I missing some fine print about the CPU and GPU that allows it to have higher overall system bandwidth.
