People need to stop asking how to do this! It's soo fucking simple! The problem is idiots keep asking the same shit over and over and over. This is why you get confused. So quit adding to the confusion and just do some research.
1 Update to OFW 3.55
2 Enter recovery mode. If you don't know how....look it up!
3 Install Kmeaw CFW that's already patched. Easy to find!
4 Install Lv 2
5 Install a BM
Holy fuck! That was incredibly difficult.

when all else fails, copy it to a external if you can and run it from that. My dead rising 2 would freeze up on certain loading screens when it was running off the internal HDD, but runs fine when running off my external.

Hey lee I have a phat 80gb launch model 256mbnand and a slim I have flashed kmeaw to both without any issues at all. The only difference between alim and phat was.that the phat need to be done thru recovery...but it works fine...actually better than dongle as ive noticed games that didnt work.before work now....im useing rogero and lv2-v2.....sorry for off topic

Helped a friend go from 3.41 to 3.55KMW today and have to say it was the proper decision. Having 75% success rate on game compatibility on the first 20 games tested "This firmware is safe from what I can tell but it does seem a little touchy and is prone to black screens on games that don't work,freezing and bugs. I am over all impressed with this early CFW and highly recommend it". It will be even better once some of the patches are reversed. A little tip to anyone on the new CFW's, make sure you have a clean rip with no modified files and you should have a higher success rate then a game that has been mutilated to run on 3.41 etc.

Hope this helps...

PS. Don't jump the gun on random Custom firmwares, wait until they are tested for a day or so and you wont lose your console via brick.

To be honest, I like reading up on how the PS3 is hacked which is why I'm here, yet I don't feel a need to use any PS3 homebrew. If I want to play SNES games, I will play them on my PSP. There just really hasn't been anything that would want me to hack the PS3, and I love playing my PS3 online and don't want to risk getting banned from PSN.

On top of that, I don't pirate games. I think it is very wrong and if you can't afford the game then you don't deserve to play it. Pirating is childish and stealing. Grow up.

Just wondering if or when the hackers are going to make a cfw capable of keeping other os or adding it to newer fw's. It seems pointless to upgrade to 3.55ofw. Im new here so does geohots 3.55cfw keep other os. I dont reeally care about backups other than my ps2 ones and im still waiting to be "easily" able to boot medal of honor and gt5. Keep up the hard work guys.

You do not need to enter recovery mode to install firmware, just use the normal xmb method.

I have tested all 3 myself, as some others may have. I've found random XMB crashes on all 3 CFWs. Although KMeaw's seems to crash less, and I have not had the same problems with my backups that I have with the other 2 CFWs. My normal problem is: I run lv2, open backup manager, load backup, while scrolling up to the BDVDROM game is when the normal crashing happened. Other crashes happened on just letting the XMB remain on the screen for a prolonged period of time.

I'm using Waninkoko's cfw on a slim cech-2004a. I was having a few xmb and game freezes. So i put all my game on an external HDD and deleted all the built up crap from the console. Then then deleted and re-installed rogero manager 7.8, backed up a few games onto the internal HDD. Now I have ZERO crashes or freezing.
It may not work for everyone but it worked for me.

Deleting your backup manager may delete all your games!!

Here's how I installed it:

1. Installed OFW 3.55 in recovery mode.

2. Rebooted, and did a "file system restore" in recovery mode (did not lose any data!)

3. Installed kmeaw 3.55 CFW (pre-patched version)

4. Installed the "Fix Permissions" brew found here (ps3-hacks.com), and ran it.

5. Installed Rogero Manager v7.9a

6. Ran the settings setup in Rogero, setting the paths and confirming the 3.55 fw version.

Boom!
Just launch your games/homebrew's from rogero without the need to install or run LV2 patch!!

Works absoulutely perfect, and it can boot with a disc inside and usb drives attached!

after a couple of days on kmeaw everything was great now got my first YLOD was an kmeaw cfw 3.55, ps3 40gb, when i run the latest multiman the screene freezes, after reboot ps3 only black screen, reboot again and now ps3 will not started anymore, the lights flash first green than than only for a second yellow and then red its not possible to go to the recovery menu! wath do you think is he bricked? of is it coincidencea and is just a YLOD?
