Sony Vs. Australian PS JailBreak Resellers: Sony Wins

Hey OzModChips: Where's my refund at? Whether or not you still care it would seem Sony has won their case against PS JailBreak resellers (read: OzModChips, ModSupplier, and Quantronics) in Australia. All three sites have removed PS JailBreak from their online catalogue. Funny enough, Quantronics has added Teensy++ boards to theirs at a price of $79. PSX-Scene has the inside scoop breaking down the official court docs for ya:

Basically they have NAMED the original makers of PSJailbreak, and their BANK ACCOUNT, and all units that have been ordered must be delivered to the lawyers.
There is going to be also damages set for the resellers to pay to Sony for all the trouble, etc.
They have until Sept. 9th to get the units pay for into the hands of the lawyers.
Looks like it will be outright forever ban, but no mention of that.

Ouch. And really, in the end, does Sony win? We'll see come the next firmware update.

Yea but still, its just a matter of time until its ported to the psp or ipod touch. I mean, once the jailbreak tool was released, and reverse engineered, its a wrap. Sony doesnt win in the long run at all. In fact very opposite. And since the teensy boards have increased tramendisly in price, thats just one more reason for this to be ported to the psp. And when it is, sony is gonna feel like shit because the psp, baby brother of ps3, will actually hack the ps3. Im just waiting until this is released. But i want other people to be the ghinney pigs to see what sony does when it comes to a jailbroken ps3 and online use.

I feel somewhat bad for the creators of PSJailbreak seeing as they took out second mortgages to finance this venture, but I also think they were unjust for trying to charge such a huge amount. They should have open sourced it from the beginning and accepted donations.

Hopefully this jailbreaking leads to restoration of OtherOS and emulators. If sony would just allow us to use homebrew with some restrictions, this might never have happened.

PSJailbreak team are still going to make a killing...

After the initial batch, they'll probably just resell the sticks for $40-$50, but them in bulk so they don't have to pay as much per stick, and make a decent $20~ profit per sale.

I wouldn't cry for them too much....

And as for the Aussies... they are free to make their own sticks with PSGroove now... everything is fine...
Sony pretty much just wasted a lot of money and time on this.

In Australia in court if you've got the money you've got the win(probably the case in most countries) and sony definitely has the money. Also the fact that our game and media laws are from the 80's does not help, for god sake putting paid for music from your computer on you ipod is by law illegal. But like the psp scene an easy alternative will come out(like using your psp)and I will do what we all did with the psp and downgrade our own then everybody else that we know

1. Sony is not equal to sony! We are greatful for the department creating such a great device, and also greatful for the challenging security measures!

2. Australian laws are messed up. The judges are for sale, and in the end sony gets back the same money from the defendant what it payed for the judge in the first place!

Err, this opens up other features as well. It allows the generic execution of unsigned code. You are literally saying that it's a different case from PS2 mod chips because the developers only have Backup Manager for download on their site at present and there's no other homebrew out there yet because effectively noone has the chips yet, and you need the chips to be able to develop homebrew.

Why do I hate Sony?

1) They removed memory card reader from EU consoles
2) The removed the emotion chip and replaced with software PS2 backward compatibility.
3) They removed PS2 backward compatibility
4) These 2 removals saved Sony $60, yet the EU consoles were $60 more expensive in the EU, making Sony $120 profit on each EU console compared to US ones.
5) They removed OtherOS
6) They are retards for chasing this court case, it's out you;re screwed get over it.
7) Sony refused to admit the drive was flawed charging many $150 to fix.

The way I see this is, the PS3 Jailbreak is the real deal. Sony will not be able to patch this in a future firmware update. If they could,they would have already. That's why they're going on the offensive in this fashion. They're up against the ropes and they know it.

I told everyone Sony would win read the Sony copyrights or any companies copyrights. If you modify or reverse engineer something for PROFIT that is not your intellectual property you are breaking copyright laws.

If they made this just code and showed everyone how to make it themselves without profiting from it Sony couldn't do anything just like they can't sue CFW makers for the PSP because they are not selling the final product they just put it out there for everyone.
